England pacer Mark Wood has set a new record in the third Ashes Test match on Thursday, July 6, for bowling the fastest over in Test cricket history at Headingley.

Wood bowled the first ball of his spell at 91 mph which continued to rise in the remaining five balls. He bowled the second and the third balls at 93 mph and 95 mph respectively. The pacer continued the heat bowling his last three balls at 93 mph, 94 mph, and 93 mph to complete the over.

England’s official Twitter handle tracked his six deliveries and later put out a tweet saying this was the fastest over ever bowled at Headingley in Test cricket.

Wood was one of the three changes England made heading into the Test match. Moeen Ali replaced Ollie Pope in the lineup with Mark Wood and Chris Woakes being the other two changes, Wood replaced Anderson while Woakes replaced Josh Tongue.

Australia also made three changes with Todd Murphy replacing Nathan Lyon who was ruled out of the rest of the Ashes series with a calf injury. Mitchell Marsh replaced Cameron Green and Scott Boland replaced Josh Hazlewood in the lineup.

England won the toss and opted to bowl first. The hosts struck early dismissing the openers David Warner (4) and Usman Khawaja (13). Stuart Broad dismissed Warner for the record 16th time in Test cricket while Wood cleaned up Khawaja. Broad took the big wicket of Steve Smith who is playing his 100th Test match for just 22.

England are trailing in the series after losing the first two Test matches. Australia won the first Test by two wickets and the second Test by 43 runs.
