Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal created a new record during the ongoing second Test match against the West Indies. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal now hold the record for scoring the most runs by an Indian opening pair in a two-match Test series.

Rohit Sharma opened the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal in international cricket for the first time during the first Test match. They added a 229-run partnership for the first wicket and helped the team gain a lead in their first innings without losing any wickets in the series opener in Dominica.

Rohit Sharma And Yashasvi Jaiswal Set A New Record

Rohit and Jaiswal put together a quick-fire partnership of 98 runs in the second innings of the second Test at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad, on Sunday, July 23. Earlier, the duo put up a 139-run partnership for the first wicket in the first innings against the West Indies.

The opening batters amassed 466 runs together, setting a new record for the highest opening partnership by an Indian pair in a two-match Test series. Overall, South African opening batters Graeme Smith and Neil McKenzie, who scored 479 runs against Bangladesh in 2008, hold the record.

Sunil Gavaskar and Chetan Chauhan hold the record for the highest opening partnership for India in a series (of more than two Tests). They scored 537 runs against Australia in 1979–80. Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir are behind, with 477 runs accumulated against Pakistan in 2005.

India Hold Records Of A Fastest Hundred In Test Cricket

The Indian Team scored 181 runs for the loss of two wickets before declaring their second innings. Rohit and Jaiswal started with an aggressive approach and scored at an impressive run rate of 8.28, which is the second highest by an opening pair in red-ball cricket with a minimum of 50 runs scored.

The Rohit Sharma-led team reached the 100-run mark in just 12.2 overs (74 balls), surpassing Sri Lanka’s previous record for the fastest team hundred in Test cricket. Ishan Kishan (52) and Shubman Gill (29) remained unbeaten to help the team set a target of 365 for the West Indies to win the Test.
