West Indies are standing on the cusp of registering a famous series win over India after taking a 2-0 lead in the ongoing five-match T20I. And one player who has played a key role in both the wins is their star batsman and former captain Nicholas Pooran.

In the first T20I, he scored 41 runs to help West Indies post a challenging total of 149. The hosts had gone on to win the game by 4 runs. And on Sunday (August 7), he starred with the bat to help his team register a two-wicket win after a terrible start with the bat.

West Indies lost Brandon King and Johnson Charles inside the first over and Kyle Mayers departed in the powerplay too. Nicholas Pooran, however, kept his team in the hunt by playing a quickfire knock of 67 runs in just 40 balls. His knock was studded with six fours and four sixes.

The required rate remained well in control for the West Indies thanks to Nicholas Pooran’s batting. The home side did fumble for a while after his departure but eventually chased down the total to take a 2-0 lead in the series. West Indies now need just one win from the remaining three games to clinch the series.

Nicholas Pooran creates a record:

Thanks to the blazing 67-run knock in the second T20I against Team India, Nicholas Pooran has become the proud owner of a special milestone. He now holds the record for scoring the most runs against Team India in the shortest format of the game. The hard-hitting batsman broke Aaron Finch’s record to achieve the milestone.

Nicholas Pooran also became just the second batsman after the former Australia skipper to reach the 500-run mark in T20Is against India. He now has 524 T20Is runs against the Men in Blue in 17 innings. Finch, on the other hand, had scored 500 runs in 18 T20I innings against India. England captain Jos Buttler is third on the list with 475 runs in 18 innings while Australia’s Glenn Maxwell comes next on 438 in 18 innings.

Nicholas Pooran will be looking to continue his good run with the bat in the coming games too and guide his team to a series win over India. The third match of the series is scheduled to take place on Tuesday (August 8) in Guyana.
