ICC Men's ODI Cricket World Cup Winners List From 1975 To 2019

ICC World Cup Winners List From 1975 To 202023: The ICC World Cup, or the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, is the biggest event in the world. This is one of the most watched Cricket/sporting events on the planet. The ODI World Cup is organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC) every four years.

The first edition of the World Cup took place in 1975 in England. England hosted the subsequent two editions before the World Cup finally moved out of Europe. In 1987, the event was co-hosted by India and Pakistan. In this edition, the matches were reduced to 50-over per inning from 60 per inning.

Australia and New Zealand co-hosted the competition in 1992. This edition saw many changes in this tournament. There are changes like coloured clothing, the games played with the white ball, day-night matches, etc.

ICC World Cup returned to the subcontinent again, with India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka co-hosting it in 1996. Three years later, the tournament went back to Europe and the UK. Then, in 2003, it was held in Africa for the first time.

In 2007, the West Indies hosted the competition. Finally, in 2011, India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh jointly hosted it. In 2015, Australia and New Zealand co-hosted the ICC World Cup for the second time, the first time since 1992. 4 years later, England once again hosted the tournament after a gap of two decades.

ICC Men’s World Cup Winners List – Season Wise:

West Indies won the first-ever edition in 1975 by beating Australia in the final. 4 years later, they defended their title by beating England in the final. In the third edition, India stopped West Indies from completing a hat-trick of  World Cup and won their first-ever title.

Australia won their first-ever World Cup in 1987 before Pakistan won it in 1992. In 1996, Arjuna Ranatunga led Sri Lanka to a historic triumph. 3 years later, Australia’s domination in the World Cup began as they won the first of three consecutive World Cups.

Australia National Cricket Team Captain Ricky Ponting led their team to World Cup wins in 2003 and 2007. The 2011 World Cup marked the beginning of home domination. India became the first-ever team to win the coveted title at home before Australia and England replicated the feat in 2015 and 2019, respectively.

Australia are the most successful side in the history of the ICC World Cup, having won it 5 times. Only the West Indies and India have won multiple World Cup titles apart from Australia. Both India and West Indies have won the trophy twice. The other World Cup winners are Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and England.

Team India went past 3000 ODI sixes in the second ODI against Australia in Indore. They scored 399/6 with as many as 18 sixes hit in the innings. Australia will now have to chase 400 to win the second ODI.

Six off those 18 sixes were hit by Suryakumar Yadav who finished unbeaten on 72 off 37 deliveries and scored at a strike rate of 194.59. Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul hit three each while Shubman Gill hit four.

SKY was at his lethal best while hitting those six sixes. He hit four consecutive sixes to Cameron Green taking 26 off his over which was the 44th of the Indian innings.

The Indore wicket was conducive to big hitting and thus the Indian batters made the most of the hot and humid conditions. In the final 10 overs, with SKY set, the Australian bowlers were toyed with.

The Indian innings was all about big hits with all the Indian batters trying to score at the same tempo. Cameron Green was the most expensive Australian bowler going for 103 runs off his spell and picking up two wickets.

India Go Past 3000 ODI Sixes

India in the process, became the first team to hit 3000 ODI sixes. West Indies closely follows second on the list with 2953 sixes while Pakistan sit third with 2566 sixes. Astonishingly, teams like Australia and England are not within the top three in this ranking despite being renowned for playing aggressive cricket.

Cameron Green was pummelled by SKY in particular as he was asked to bowl by Steve Smith in the end overs. Green went for 103 runs off his spell leaking runs at an economy of 10.30 and was the most expensive bowler in the game. Australia in the second ODI are without Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc as the management is keen on experimenting with the other bowlers.

Meanwhile, India finished on 399/5 which is their highest score against Australia in ODI cricket. The Aussies now need a mammoth 400 runs to win and level the series.

India bagged their 8th Asia Cup title as they beat Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the Asia Cup 2023 final. India chased down the target of 51 in 6.1 overs after bundling out Sri Lanka for just 50. In the process, India registered their biggest win in ODI history in terms of balls remaining.

Mohammed Siraj picked 6/21, his maiden five-wicket haul, and in the process broke a plethora of records as well. From being the quickest number of balls to take five wickets, to being one of the bowlers with best ODI figures, Siraj achieved it all on his dream day.

Siraj who took his maiden fifer broke several records in the process. He now has the fourth-best figures for India in ODI cricket. Former Indian skipper Anil Kumble leads the list with 6/12 against West Indies in 2023. Siraj also now has the best ODI figures against Sri Lanks surpassing Waqar Younis’ 6/26 in Sharjah in 1990.

He took four wickets in his first spell and then came back to take two more as he completed a six-wicket haul. Siraj took the wickets of Pathum Nissanka, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, and Dhananjaya de Silva in just his second over after bowling a maiden in his first over.

The Lankan skipper was surprised to miss the ball. Kusal Mendis was his sixth wicket as he breached through his defense to rattle his middle stump.

Mohammed Siraj was the main man behind India winning the Asia Cup 2023 final against Sri Lanka at R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The fast bowler bowled one of the finest spells in the history of the ODIs and made a mockery of the opposition.

India were asked to bowl first and it was a sensational outing for them as they ticked all the boxes right and bundled out Sri Lanka for just 50 runs. The man behind that was no other than Mohammed Siraj, who returned with his best figures in the 50-over cricket.

Mohammed Siraj shared the new ball with Jasprit Bumrah and he started off with a maiden over. However, after that, it was wickets galore as he left Sri Lankan batters clueless with his impeccable lines and lengths. His best came in the second over that he bowled.

Mohammed Siraj picked four wickets in the second over he bowled and then picked two more wickets to finish with 6 wickets to his name. His removed Pathum Nissanka, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dasun Shanaka and Kusal Mendis. He returned with the figures of 6/21, which is the second-best in the history of the Asia Cup.

Mohammed Siraj registered the fastest-ever 5-wicket haul in a spell for India in international cricket. The pacer took just 16 balls to achieve the feat as India bundled out Sri Lanka for 50 runs. Ishan Kishan (23*) and Shubman Gill (27*) then batted staggering well and won the game for their inside 7 overs to lift their 8th Asia Cup title.

India National Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma has achieved a sensational milestone as he has completed 200 catches in international cricket.

Rohit Sharma achieved this landmark during the ongoing match against Bangladesh National Cricket Team, which is the final Super Four stage match of the Asia Cup 2023, on Friday, September 15 at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.

Heading into the match, Rohit Sharma had 199 catches in international cricket and he needed just one more catch to become the 5th Indian fielder to reach the landmark of 200 catches in international cricket.

He achieved that when he plucked a stunner at slips in the 14th over to send Mehidy Hasan Miraz packing for a 28-ball 13.

On the last delivery of the 14th over, Axar Patel bowled a short-length delivery and the ball turned away from the batter. Mehidy Hasan Miraz poked at it and the ball ended up going towards Rohit Sharma, who grabbed a brilliant low catch at slips.

We got to give game time to some other guys who haven’t played – Rohit Sharma

India won the toss and opted to field first in the match. Speaking at the toss, Rohit Sharma informed that they have made as many as five changes to the playing XI in order to give some game time to other players in the 17-man squad.

Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah were rested and they were replaced by Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, and Prasidh Krishna.

“We are gonna field first. It is something we haven’t done in the tournament, we haven’t done it under lights so it gives us an opportunity to bat under lights. The wicket honestly has got everything for everyone. Pacers who bend their back in the daytime have also got movement and there have been assistance for the spinners,” Rohit Sharma said.

“Got to be brave and play your natural game. We got to give game time to some other guys who haven’t played. We have made five changes. Virat, Hardik, Siraj, Bumrah and Kuldeep are out. Tilak makes his debut. Shami and Prasidh also come in. Suryakumar also gets a game.”

Virat Kohli took the game away from Pakistan as he smashed them all over the park. He along with KL Rahul, who also scored a ton, smashed over 200 runs in partnership and helped India post a mammoth total of 356 runs on the board in Colombo.

Virat Kohli ended with the knock of unbeaten 122 runs off 94 balls. He batted with a strike rate of almost 130 and also smashed 9 fours and 3 sixes in his innings. This was his 47th ton and he is just two centuries away from Sachin Tendulkar’s record.

Pakistan National Cricket Team captain Babar Azam has broken yet another massive record of India National Cricket Team modern-day batting great Virat Kohli.

The Pakistan skipper, who is currently participating in the Asia Cup 2023, is the No.1 ranked batsman in the ICC ODI Rankings and he is not expected to lose the top spot anytime soon. So far he has looked stellar with the bat in the continental tournament.

In the curtain raiser of Asia Cup 2023 against Nepal, Babar Azam scored 151 runs off 131 balls, including 14 fours and 4 sixes, under pressure and he also stitched together an outstanding 214 runs in 131 balls with Iftikhar Ahmed to power Pakistan to a total of 342 runs.

The Pakistan captain completed 19 ODI tons in 102 innings and became the fastest to achieve the feat and his 151-run knock became the highest by any captain in Asia Cup history.

Babar Azam Breaks Virat Kohli’s Massive Record As Captain

During the first match of the Super 4 stage of Asia Cup 2023 against Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh National Cricket Team, Babar Azam went past Virat Kohli’s huge milestone as captain.

Heading into the match at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Wednesday, September 6, Babar Azam was six runs away from completing 2000 ODI runs as captain. He scored 17 runs during the run-chase before being dismissed by Taskin Ahmed.

However, his knock was enough to make him the fastest captain to reach 2000 runs in One Day International (ODI) cricket. He took 31 innings to reach the milestone, whereas Virat had achieved the feat in 36 innings. The next batters on the list are AB de Villiers and Michael Clarke, who achieved the feat in 41 and 47 innings, respectively.

Overall, Babar Azam is the second-highest century hitter for Pakistan in ODIs, only behind Saeed Anwar, who hit 20 tons in ODIs in 244 innings. Ahead of the match, Babar was asked about equalling Anwar’s record to which he responded that he wanted to smash a ton against Bangladesh and level with the batting great.

“(One century from equalling Anwar’s century count) I am looking forward to this match, I’ll try to break the record but I’m looking to win this match. Last night we saw a bit of help for fast bowlers, that’s why we have an extra fast bowler,” Babar Azam said.

The 38-year-old Afghanistan National Cricket Team all-rounder Mohammad Nabi played a breathtaking knock for his side in the do-or-die Asia Cup 2023 encounter against Sri Lanka National Cricket Team at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Tuesday, September 05.

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first in the match. They batted quite well and posted a good total of 291/8 on the board. Kusal Mendis was the top performer for his side as he scored 92 runs off 84 balls, with 6 fours and 3 sixes.

Afghanistan needed to complete the run chase within 37.1 overs to progress to the next round and join Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan in the Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup 2023.

Chasing the target, Afghanistan were off to a poor start as they lost both star openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran early on in the innings. Then, Gulbadin Naib, Rahmat Shah, and Hashmatullah Shahidi played good knocks to keep their side in the game.

However, they still needed a game-changing innings to put some pressure back on Sri Lanka, and Mohammad Nabi, who came to bat No.6, played exactly that knock.

Mohammad Nabi Breaks Mujeeb Ur Rahman’s Record

Mohammad Nabi showcased sheer power-hitting and smashed the Sri Lanka bowlers all over the park. He batted with an aggressive intent throughout his innings and completed his half-century off 24 balls, with 6 fours and 3 sixes.

Virat Kohli notably dropped the catch of Aasif Sheikh in the second over. It was a sitter as he hopped to the catch and made a mess of it. The ball juggled on him as well but unfortunately, it fell down. But he rectified his mistake after picking one one-handed grab.

Pakistan National Cricket Team fast bowlers have achieved a unique milestone after their brilliant performance in the Asia Cup 2023 clash against arch-rivals India National Cricket Team at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Saturday, September 2.

The Men In Green were invited to bowl first after losing the toss and the ‘Eagle’ Shaheen Afridi did what he does best and got early wickets for his team. Initially, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill looked decent in the middle against Pakistan pacers, but things changed after the rain break.

Shaheen Afridi looked threatening after the break and he castled Indian batting greats Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for 11 and 4. Haris Rauf joined the party and he dismissed Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill to send India on the backfoot as they were at 4-66.

Then Hardik Pandya and Ishan Kishan joined forces to lead India to recovery, both the batters played superbly against the strong attack and added 138 runs.

However, Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf once again brought Pakistan back into the game by dismissing Hardik Pandya and Ishan Kishan quickly and India went from 204/4 to 266/10.

Shaheen Afridi bagged four wickets while Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah bagged three wickets each. As the pace trio of Pakistan shared all 10 wickets between them, it became the first-ever instance of all 10 wickets being taken by pacers in Asia Cup (ODI) history.

Spectacular bowling spell by our fast bowlers – Ex-Pakistan star Saeed Ajmal

Former Pakistan National Cricket Team spinner Saeed Ajmal took to X to shower praise on the bowlers for their spectacular performance against India.

As the match got called of due to rain but can’t hold but talk about spectacular bowling spell by our fast bowlers specially Shaheen 🔥 It’s a confidence booster for our team..Hope that we get to watch another IndvPak on 10th sep,’ Saeed Ajmal wrote.

Meanwhile, the match between the India National Cricket Team and the Pakistan National Cricket Team had no result as the rain played spoilsport and the game was called off.

Shaheen Afridi has yet again wreaked havoc across the Indian top order. The Pakistan pacer is breathing fire in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 game against India at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele.

India won the toss and opted to bat first in their opening game of the Asia Cup against Pakistan. The Indian openers looked in great touch as they showed respect to high-class bowling. But a halt in the game due to rain changed the fortune of the Men in Blue.

The chief architect behind was none other than the ‘Eagle’ Shaheen Afridi. The left-arm pacer looked extremely threatening after the rain break as he made a mockery of the Indian batters and made them look clueless with his staggering swing bowling.

Shaheen Afridi first bowled an unplayable delivery to Indian captain Rohit Sharma. He bowled a length delivery around off and the ball nipped in sharply to beat Rohit Sharma’s defence. The ball went between the bat and the pad to toss up the off stump and send the Indian skipper packing for 11 runs.

If this was not enough, Shaheen Afridi then in his very next over left the stumps of Virat Kohli clattering as well. He again bowled a length delivery outside off to which the batter tried to punch through the off-side. But he ended up getting an inside edge that deflected to hit the stumps.

As Shaheen Afridi removed both the mainstays of the Indian batting lineup in the ongoing game, he became the first bowler to dismiss both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli ‘bowled’ in the same innings.

IND vs PAK: Haris Rauf Supports Shaheen Afridi well as he removes Shreyas Iyer

After the staggering spell of Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf supported him well. Shreyas Iyer looked very optimistic as he played some gorgeous strokes but the Pakistani pacer got the better of him.

Haris Rauf bowled a short ball which Shreyas Iyer tried to pull. He had a great connection but he played straight to Fakhar Zaman at mid-wicket. The Indian batter fell for 14 runs off 9 balls.

The 20-year-old Sri Lanka National Cricket Team right-arm pacer Matheesha Pathirana, who is also known as Baby Malinga for slingy bowling action, delivered an outstanding bowling performance on his debut in the Asia Cup tournament.

Matheesha Pathirana made his Asia Cup debut in the second match of the 2023 edition of the continental tournament against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Thursday, August 31.

The young pacer, who burst into fame with his appearance for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL), wasn’t very accurate with his lines and lengths initially, but once he got going, he looked threatening with the ball.

He started off by picking the big wicket of Shakib Al Hasan and then yet another veteran Mushfiqur Rahim became his second scalp. He then cleaned up Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman to wrap up the innings for 164. The pacer finished his spell with impressive figures of 7.4-0-32 -4.

At 20 years and 256 days, Pathirana became the youngest Sri Lanka bowler to take a 4-wicket haul in ODIs. He went past the record of the Sri Lanka great Chaminda Vaas, who achieved the feat at 20 years and 280 days when he took 4/20 against Zimbabwe in Harare in 1994.

Easy to see why Sri Lanka cricket, CSK, and MS Dhoni are valuing Matheesha Pathirana so highly – Ian Bishop

After the 20-year-old pacer rattled the Bangladesh batting unit, former West Indies player Ian Bishop lauded Pathirana and said that his performance on his Asia Cup debut was the reason why MS Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and Sri Lanka value the quick so highly.

“Easy to see why Sri Lanka cricket, CSK and MS Dhoni are valuing Matheesha Pathirana so highly. He is still learning his craft. But he is learning quickly and will be a real handful in years to come,” wrote Bishop.

India veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also showered rich praise on Pathirana and said that the pacer has upgraded his skills in the last one year.

“Matheesha Pathirana’s exploits in the IPL 2023 was commendable but his performance today has reiterated the skill upgrade he has made over the last 12 months. #SLvsBAN #AsiaCup,” Ravichandran Ashwin wrote.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka won the match by a margin of 5 wickets against Bangladesh with 66 balls remaining and Pathirana was awarded Player of the Match for his impressive showing.

The 32-year-old Pakistan National Cricket Team middle-order batsman Iftikhar Ahmed has joined the legendary batter Zaheer Abbas in a unique list following his maiden century in One Day International (ODI) cricket.

Iftikhar Ahmed showcased a batting masterclass in the Asia Cup 2023 opening encounter against Nepal National Cricket Team at the Multan Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, August 30.

The Men In Green were off to a poor start in the match as both the openers got out after playing poor innings. Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan steadied the ship by stitching up a terrific partnership.

After the dismissal of Rizwan and Agha Salman, Iftikhar Ahmed joined Babar Azam in the middle and together they shifted the momentum of the game completely towards the home side.

Iftikhar Ahmed batted with great intent and took the responsibility to attack, which led to Babar Azam playing his natural game and completing his century.

Iftikhar Ahmed continued batting brilliantly and he smashed the Nepal bowlers all over the park to complete his maiden ODI century off 67 balls. The 32-year-old scored an unbeaten 109 runs off 71 balls, including 11 fours and 4 sixes. The knocks from Babar and Iftikhar helped Pakistan post 342/6 on the board.

Iftikhar Ahmed Becomes Second-oldest Pakistan Player To Hit Maiden Century In ODIs

As Iftikhar completed his ton, he became the second-oldest Pakistan player to register a maiden century in ODIs at the age of 32 years and 361 days. He is now only behind Zaheer Abbas, who was aged 34 years and 146 days when he hit his first ODI ton in 1981 against Australia.

Meanwhile, Iftikhar’s 67-ball ton was the third-fastest century in ODIs in Pakistan and overall the joint fifth-fastest century by a Pakistan player in ODIs.

Fastest ODI Ton By Pakistan Batters:

37 – Shahid Afridi vs SL, Nairobi, 1996

45 – Shahid Afridi vs IND, Kanpur, 2005

53 – Shahid Afridi vs BAN, Dambulla, 2010

61 – Sharjeel Khan vs IRE, Malahide, 2016

67 – Basit Ali vs WI, Sharjah, 1993

67 – Iftikhar Ahmed vs NEP, Multan, 2023

Also, Iftikhar added 214 runs with Babar Azam, which was the highest partnership for Pakistan in home ODIs and the highest fifth-wicket stand for Pakistan in ODIs. This was also the third-highest partnership for any wicket in Asia Cup history.

Babar Azam came to bat in the 6th over in the first innings after the dismissal of Fakhar Zaman. Soon Imam-ul-Haq also got out and Babar played a cautious knock initially in an attempt to build the innings.

He added 86 runs with wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan to bring back Pakistan’s innings on the track after losing quick wickets. However, his best came when he batted with Iftikhar Ahmed.

Iftikhar Ahmed played his attacking game and gave time to Babar Azam to play his natural game and complete a century in the match, which was his 19th ODI ton. The Pakistan captain completed 19 ODI tons in 102 innings and became the fastest to achieve the feat.

Speaking during the mid-innings break, Iftikhar Ahmed said that he was delighted to hit a century. He also said that batting with Babar Azam was quite special for him as he is the No.1 ranked ODI batter.

“Century is an achievement for a player, obviously I am very happy. Ball was gripping when I went in, so you need to give time for yourself to get set. Babar is a great player, World No. 1 player.

‘It’s an awesome feeling to bat with him. He rotates strike very well and we discussed about scoring a boundary when we get a loose ball. The wicket got better to bat on as the innings progressed,” Iftikhar Ahmed said.

The 21-year-old Afghanistan National Cricket Team wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz has broken a massive record of the legendary India National Cricket Team wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni against Pakistan with his sensational batting show in the second ODI of the three-match series at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium, Sooriyawewa, Hambantota on Thursday, August 24.

After their horrible batting performance in the first ODI where they were bowled out for 59, Afghanistan made a stunning comeback and posted 300/5 on the board on the back of Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran’s exceptional batting performances.

The young wicketkeeper-batter Gurbaz scored sensational 151 runs off 151 balls, with 14 fours and 3 sixes, and built an incredible 227-run partnership with Ibrahim Zadran. This was Afghanistan’s second-highest partnership for any wicket. Also, the 300 runs total was their highest total against Pakistan.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz Breaks MS Dhoni’s Record

As Gurbaz registered 151 runs against the Men In Green, he became the first wicketkeeper-batter in the history of ODIs to hit 150 against the Men In Green. He broke legendary wicketkeeper-batter Dhoni’s previous best score of 148 against Pakistan, which he had registered way back in 2005 at Vishakhapatnam.

Not only this, Gurbaz became the first-ever Afghanistan batter to hit a century against Pakistan in ODIs. This was the young Afghanistan batter’s 5th ODI century in 23 innings and he went past Babar Azam’s 25 innings tally to become the second fastest to achieve the feat after Quinton de Kock (19) and Imam-Ul-Haq (19).

Speaking after his fantastic knock, Gurbaz said that they talked about playing a positive brand of cricket after losing the first ODI. He elaborated:

“We just hoped to play positive (after the last match’s defeat), we expected this from our batters. We wanted to bat well and post a good total.

“I have been batting with Ibrahim Zadran since a long time. We were discussing throughout our partnership to bat with a plan. I was set but wasn’t able to hit boundaries against spinners, so I am pretty confident we can defend this total.”

India National Cricket Team premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah achieved a remarkable milestone in his comeback game following recovery from an injury against Paul Stirling-led Ireland National Cricket Team at the Malahide in Dublin on Friday, August 18.

Bumrah displayed a terrific bowling performance in his comeback game and bagged two wickets in the first over itself. The pacer looked in good control from the very beginning and he carried the same momentum throughout his spell. He bowled staggering lines and lengths and gave away just 24 runs in his 4-over quota.

Jasprit Bumrah’s terrific bowling performance alongside Prasidh Krishna and Ravi Bishnoi’s brilliance helped India restrict Ireland to 139/7.

Chasing the target, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad added 46 runs together before the dismissal of Jaiswal and Tilak Varma on back-to-back deliveries. India were at 47/2 when rain interrupted the game. Due to non-stop rain, the umpires decided to call off the match and India won by 2 runs as per the DLS method.

Jasprit Bumrah, who is the 11th Indian to captain India in T20Is and just the first bowler, was also awarded Player of the Match for his incredible performance. He started off his T20I captaincy stint with a win just like 9 other Indian captains. Notably, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant are the only two Indians who failed to win their debut game as T20I captains.

The Indians to win their 1st T20I match as captain are Virender Sehwag, MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah.

Meanwhile, as Jasprit Bumrah led his side to victory and won the Player of the Match award he became the first Indian in the history of T20Is to win the Player of the Match award on captaincy debut.

Not really nervous but very happy – Jasprit Bumrah

Speaking during the post-match presentation ceremony, Jasprit Bumrah said that he didn’t feel like he missed a lot of cricket. Jasprit Bumrah also lauded Ireland for their fightback in the match after losing quick wickets.

“Felt very good, so many sessions I did at the NCA, didn’t feel I missed out a lot or was doing something new. Credit to the staff, they kept me in good spirits. You are not thinking about yourself, you are thinking about others out there. Not really nervous but very happy. There was some swing upfront so we wanted to use it. Luckily we won the toss and it was coming out fine,” Jasprit Bumrah said.

“There was some help due to the weather, so very happy. In every game, you would want more. After a crisis, they played well, credit where it is due. Even when you win, there are areas to improve on. Everybody is very confident, they are very well prepared. I think the IPL also helps. It is always good, wherever we go, they support us, that helps us to keep the spirit high.”

The 29-year-old India National Cricket Team right-arm pacer Jasprit Bumrah delivered a brilliant performance in his comeback game against Paul Stirling-led Ireland National Cricket Team at the Malahide in Dublin on Friday, August 18.

He immediately made an impact with the ball, striking twice in his first over. On the first delivery of the over he was smashed for a four. However, he made a stunning comeback and castled Andy Balbirnie on the second ball, before bringing out his trademark arms out celebration.

He then bowled two dots before dismissing the wicketkeeper-batter Lorcan Tucker for a duck on the fifth delivery of the over. Bumrah displayed sheer class in his next three overs and looked in a great rhythm. The pacer also bowled staggering lines and lengths in the 19th over and gave away just 1 run. Overall, he gave away just 24 runs in his 4-over quota.

Meanwhile, as Jasprit Bumrah bagged two wickets in his first over, he became just the 4th Indian to pick up two wickets in the first over in a T20I. He joined Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Hardik Pandya in the elite list.

Two wickets in the first over for India in a T20I:

Hardik Pandya vs WI Providence 2023

Jasprit Bumrah vs Ire Malahide 2023

Good to see Jasprit Bumrah back, all cylinders firing – Abhishek Nayar

Former India batter Abhishek Nayar said that Jasprit Bumrah was not at his best, but he was delighted to see the pacer bowl plenty of variations in his comeback game.

“Good to see Bumrah back, all cylinders firing. You didn’t see the best of Bumrah, but you did see all the variations that you will always associate with Bumrah. That’s always heartening. You saw he was clocking around the 140kph toward the end of his spell, getting his rhythm. Seeing him bowl the off-cutters, the hard lengths and the yorkers, it’s the ideal way for Bumrah to get back to his rhythm,” Abhishek Nayar told JIoCinema on Sunday.

“I noticed one thing, his run-up has gone a bit longer. But the way he ran in to bowl, it seems as if he is in a very good rhythm. He ran at very good pace and even the follow-through was very good. I think the pace, it will increase as he plays more matches. All in all, I am very happy with Bumrah, the bowler and the captain,” he added.

The 32-year-old India National Cricket Team middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav has equaled the massive record of Virat Kohli and Babar Azam in T20I cricket following his stellar batting show in the series-deciding T20I clash against West Indies National Cricket Team.

Suryakumar Yadav was once again the top performer for the Men In Blue in the crucial fifth T20I. He came to bat in the first over itself after the dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal for 5.

The pitch at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill was not like the previous T20I and it looked quite slow and sluggish. Except for Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma, all the Indian batters failed to perform well in the match and Suryakumar was the only one who scored 30-plus runs.

Suryakumar Yadav wasn’t able to bat with an outstanding strike rate as usual, but he made an important contribution with the bat. He scored 61 runs off 45 balls, with 4 fours and 3 sixes. His innings helped India post a good total of 165/9 on the board.

Suryakumar Yadav Equals Virat Kohli and Babar Azam’s Record

As Suryakumar Yadav hit a half-century against West Indies in the fifth T20I on Sunday, August 13, he registered his 18th fifty-plus score in T20I cricket.

With this, he equaled Kohli and Babar’s record for scoring the most fifty-plus runs after 50 innings in T20I cricket. Both Babar and Kohli had registered as many as 18 fifty-plus scores after playing 50 T20I innings. KL Rahul is second on the list with 17 fifty-plus scores after 50 innings.

The No.1 ranked T20I batsman Suryakumar sits in the fourth position on the list of most runs scored after 50 T20I innings. Kohli tops the list with 1943 runs and he is followed by Babar Azam (1942 runs) and Mohammad Rizwan (1888 runs).

Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal are the current T20I openers for India in the ongoing series against West Indies. In the fourth T20I match against the Men In Maroon, the Gill-Jaiswal duo played a crucial role in the run chase and made a partnership of 165 runs.

In the first innings, West Indies went to bat first and gave a target of 179 runs after the Indian bowlers showed a good performance. Arshdeep Singh took three wickets in his four-over spell and gave away 38 runs. Kuldeep Yadav also scalped two wickets and gave away 26 runs in his four-over spell.

In the second inning, Shubman Gill made 77 runs from 47 balls with a strike rate of 163.83. Whereas, Yashasvi Jaiswal faced 51 deliveries and scored 84 runs with a strike rate of 164.71.

The young opening duo smashed a totals of eight sixes and 14 fours which helped the Men in Blue to level the five-match series by 2-2.

Also, the opening partnership of 165 runs made changes in the record book, and Shubman Gill-Yashasvi Jaiswal engraved their names for the elite feat.

The youngsters have now equaled the record of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul for highest opening partnership in the T20Is for the Men in Blue. KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma made 165 runs against Sri Lanka in 2017 at Indore.

Shubman Gill-Yashasvi Jaiswal break Mohammed Rizwan and Babar Azam’s record against West Indies

Apart from that, the current opening duo made a new record, breaking Pakistan’s Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan’s record against West Indies. In 2021, the Pakistani duo made the highest partnership of 158 runs against the Caribbeans in Karachi. But the Jaiswal-Gill pair didn’t take much time cross them.

Shubman Gill was the first player to slam a half-century after smashing the ball over the point for four runs. But Yashasvi Jaiswal did not make him feel alone and hit his fifty soon to achieve the unique landmark.

For a few days, 23-year-old Shubman Gill has received plenty of criticism from the cricket pundits for not scoring runs after the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. But Gill’s 77-run knock against West Indies in the fourth match must have answered all the questions that were thrown at him for his off-form.

Rohit Sharma-less India will take on West Indies in the fifth T20I match on Sunday (August 13) at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Florida. The match will start at 8:00 PM IST.

India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal shattered the all-time record of Indian skipper Rohit Sharma in the shortest format of the game. The left-hander became the youngest Indian opener to hit a T20I half-century, surpassing the current captain.

Yashasvi Jaiswal achieved the feat in the recently concluded fourth T20I against West Indies in Florida. The young opener played a magnificent knock in the all-important game for the team and made sure that he wins the game for his team to level the series 2-2.

Yashasvi Jaiswal struck a solid half-century and he became the youngest Indian opener to achieve the feat. He achieved the milestone at the age of 21 years, surpassing Rohit Sharma, who hit a half-century at 22 years against England in 2009.

Overall, Yashasvi Jaiswal became the fourth youngest player to smash a half-century for India in T20Is. He joined the likes of Rohit Sharma (20yr 143d), Tilak Varma (20yr 271d) and Rishabh Pant (21yr 38d). The southpaw did at the age of 21 years 227 days.

Yashasvi Jaiswal remained unbeatable with the knock of 84 runs off 51 balls and helped his side chase the target of 179 runs. IND vs WI: It was really important to be myself when I went in to bat – Suryakumar Yadav on his innings

He also lauded Tilak Varma for his innings and explained:

“It was really important to be myself when I went in to bat in the powerplay, that’s what the team management also wanted. I have practised these (ramps and scoops) strokes a lot and I love doing that. We (himself and Tilak) have batted together for a long time, we both understand how each other bats and the way he batted, it gave me a lot of confidence.

“It was a great innings from him (Tilak) at the other end. It was running on the back of my mind (that India had never lost three T20Is in a row) but at the same time we spoke in the team meeting, our captain said someone needs to put their hand up and win the match, glad I was able to do that.”

Babar Azam achieved the milestone in the game between Colombo Strikers and Galle Titans in the ongoing Lankan Premier League (LPL) 2023. What’s more impressive was his ton came in the chase and he made sure that he helped his side win the game comfortably.

Chasing the target of 189 runs, Babar Azam gave a blistering start to the team in the big chase. He played some fine shots and made sure that he puts the bowlers under pressure right from the very start. The Colombo Strikers batter stitched 111 runs opening partnership with Pathum Nissanka (54).

West Indies are standing on the cusp of registering a famous series win over India after taking a 2-0 lead in the ongoing five-match T20I. And one player who has played a key role in both the wins is their star batsman and former captain Nicholas Pooran.

In the first T20I, he scored 41 runs to help West Indies post a challenging total of 149. The hosts had gone on to win the game by 4 runs. And on Sunday (August 7), he starred with the bat to help his team register a two-wicket win after a terrible start with the bat.

West Indies lost Brandon King and Johnson Charles inside the first over and Kyle Mayers departed in the powerplay too. Nicholas Pooran, however, kept his team in the hunt by playing a quickfire knock of 67 runs in just 40 balls. His knock was studded with six fours and four sixes.

The required rate remained well in control for the West Indies thanks to Nicholas Pooran’s batting. The home side did fumble for a while after his departure but eventually chased down the total to take a 2-0 lead in the series. West Indies now need just one win from the remaining three games to clinch the series.

Nicholas Pooran creates a record:

Thanks to the blazing 67-run knock in the second T20I against Team India, Nicholas Pooran has become the proud owner of a special milestone. He now holds the record for scoring the most runs against Team India in the shortest format of the game. The hard-hitting batsman broke Aaron Finch’s record to achieve the milestone.

Nicholas Pooran also became just the second batsman after the former Australia skipper to reach the 500-run mark in T20Is against India. He now has 524 T20Is runs against the Men in Blue in 17 innings. Finch, on the other hand, had scored 500 runs in 18 T20I innings against India. England captain Jos Buttler is third on the list with 475 runs in 18 innings while Australia’s Glenn Maxwell comes next on 438 in 18 innings.

Nicholas Pooran will be looking to continue his good run with the bat in the coming games too and guide his team to a series win over India. The third match of the series is scheduled to take place on Tuesday (August 8) in Guyana.

Hardik Pandya achieved the feat in the recently concluded second T20I against West Indies at Guyana. Although India lost the game, as an individual, it was a great game for the all-rounder as he chipped in with both bat and ball to keep his side in the hunt.

Hardik Pandya first chipped in with a valuable 24-run knock and if this was not enough he then went on to take 3 wickets as well. This saw him becoming only the first Indian to cross 4000 runs and take 150 wickets in T20 cricket. He currently has 4391 runs and 152 wickets to his name from 241 matches.

Hardik Pandya with his three wickets in the last game also completed 73 wickets in T20Is, surpassing Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin. He only has Bhuvneshwar Kumar (90) and Yuzvendra Chahal (95) ahead of him in the list of most wickets for India.

Coming to the second T20I between India and West Indies, on account of Tilak Varma‘s (51) half-century India posted a total of 152 runs on the board. Hardik Pandya then gave a dream start to the team as he picked two wickets in the first over. Bowlers kept chipping in with wickets at regular intervals but Nicholas Pooran blasted a brutal half-century to win the game for his team and take a 2-0 lead.

Tilak Varma

Continuing his brilliant start in international cricket, Tilak Varma, on Sunday (August 6), scored his maiden T20I fifty to power India to a fighting total in the second T20I against West Indies in Guyana.

The left-handed batsman has hit the ground running in international cricket. In both the T20I games that he has batted in so far, he walked out to bat when the team was in a precarious position. In the first T20I which was his debut outing in international cricket, India were reeling at 28 for 2 when he walked out to bat.

Tilak Varma made an instant impact by opening his account in international cricket with two sixes in a row. He went on to finish the game as India’s top-scorer, scoring 39 runs although the Men in Blue eventually lost the game. India’s situation was worse in the second T20I when Tilak Varma came out to bat.

Tilak Varma breaks Rishabh Pant’s record:

With Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav failing to do well, India were on 18 for 2 when Tilak Varma joined Ishan Kishan in the middle. He shared crucial partnerships with Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya to take the score past the 100-run mark before departing for 51. The Southpaw scored his maiden fifty and finished as India’s highest scorer for the second game in a row.

His 51-run knock came off 41 deliveries and was studded with five fours and a six. And as Tilak Varma has made a good start in international cricket, it has taken him only two games to enter the record books. The highly-rated batsman has broken Rishabh Pant’s record as he became the second youngest Indian player to score a T20I fifty.

The record is currently held by Rohit Sharma who scored a memorable fifty against South Africa during the 2007 T20 World Cup. Tilak Varma also became the second Indian player after Rohit to score a T20I fifty before attaining the age of 21.

Youngest Indian to Score Half-century in T20Is:

Rohit Sharma – 20 years, 143 days

Tilak Varma – 20 year, 271 days

Rishabh Pant – 21 years, 38 days

Meanwhile, India finished their innings on 152 for 7. In reply, West Indies were on 82 for 3 at the end of the ninth over at the time of writing this report.

351-5 is India’s highest total against West Indies in ODIs in the Caribbean. The previous best was 339-6 in 2009. This was also India’s biggest total without any batsman hitting a ton. The previous best was 350-6 against Sri Lanka in an ODI clash in 2005.

This was the 7th instance when four of India’s top five batters slammed half-centuries. Among the top five batters, Ishan Kishan (77), Shubman Gill (85), Sanju Samson (51), and Hardik Pandya (70*) stormed the fifties in the match. Ruturaj Gaikwad, who arrived at no.3, got out for 8 runs.

India lost the toss and were invited to bat first in the match. The Indian openers made sure West Indies regret their decision as they built up a terrific partnership. The wicketkeeper-batter played the role of the aggressor while Gill was a little cautious. The duo kept batting brilliantly and they frustrated the West Indies bowlers.

Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill Break Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane’s Big Partnership Record

Kishan and Gill added 143 runs for the opening wicket in just 118 deliveries before the dismissal of Kishan in the 20th over.

The wicketkeeper-batter scored 77 runs off 64 balls, with 8 fours and 3 sixes. He stepped out of the crease in an attempt to play a big shot but got stumped by the wicketkeeper Shai Hope.

Ishan Kishan Equals MS Dhoni, Shreyas Iyer’s Record

Kishan stepped up in the crucial series-deciding third ODI for India National Cricket Team at Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad on Tuesday, August 1.

He showcased his intent from the initial half of the innings and batted aggressively. Kishan hit some good boundaries during his innings and completed his half-century off just 43 deliveries.

Ishan Kishan looked set for a hundred as the West Indies bowlers were unable to trouble the wicketkeeper-batter. However, he failed to get a hundred as he was dismissed by Yannic Cariah. The young Indian batter stepped out of the crease in an attempt to play a big shot in the 20th over but got stumped by the wicketkeeper Shai Hope.

As Kishan hit a fifty, he became just the 6th Indian to score 50-plus scores in each match of a 3-ODI bilateral series. Kishan scored 77 runs off 64 balls, with 8 fours and 3 sixes. He was also involved in a terrific 143 runs partnership in 118 balls with Shubman Gill.

Australia star Usman Khawaja is on the verge of achieving yet another milestone in Test cricket as his fairytale run in red-ball cricket continues since his remarkable comeback.

After being ignored for three years, the left-handed batsman finally made his comeback in Australia’s Test team in January 2022 and has not looked back since then. He has been one of the best Test batsmen in the world since then.

In the last couple of years, he has scored more than 2000 Test runs at an average of over 60 with the help of seven centuries. During this period, the veteran batsman has scored centuries not only in Australia but also in Pakistan, India, and England, thus proving his ability to do well away from home too.

Usman Khawaja to equal Don Bradman’s record:

Usman Khawaja is now on the verge of equaling one of the records of the legendary Don Bradman, widely regarded as the greatest batsman in the history of the game. The Australia opener is on the verge of becoming the oldest Australian since Don Bradman to score 500 runs in an Ashes series. Usman Khawaja needs only seven runs on the final day of the ongoing fifth Ashes Test to achieve the feat.

The 36-year-old would need 16 runs to pass Donald’s 508 runs tally, which he made in 1948 at the age of 39. Seven more runs will also see him join his teammate Steve Smith (twice) as just the second Australian this century to score 500 runs in an away Ashes series.

Usman Khawaja was unbeaten on 69 at the end of the fourth day’s play. He and David Warner have given Australia a solid start with the bat after England set the visitors a target of 384 runs. At stumps, Australia were on 135 for no loss.

Australia batting stars Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne have entered record books for creating unwanted records on day two of the ongoing fifth and final Ashes Test against England at The Oval.

Australia’s slow batting approach on the second day of the Test has been severely criticized. In a series where England have enthralled cricket fans all over the world with their aggressive approach, Australia’s star batters decided to take a completely different approach on day two.

Neither Marnus Labuschagne nor Usman Khawaja showed any urgency with the bat, making many criticize their approach. Some fans even took to social media platforms to label their approach ‘Snoozeball’ and ‘Boreball’. Former England skipper Michael Vaughan was very critical of Australia’s approach with the bat, saying that the visitors looked scared.

“They are taking home the urn, but I’ve never seen Australia play with so much fear,” Vaughan said on the BBC’s Test Match Special.

“They are usually so aggressive…but they have just sat in to bat for a long period of time without remembering you have to put a bit of pressure on the bowlers. [This morning] I thought it was the worst I’ve ever seen Australia bat in my time watching them. They never play like that,” he added.

Marnus Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja enter record books:

While Marnus Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja could not bat their team to a good position, they have managed to enter the record books for their slow knocks. Marnus Labuschagne scored only 9 runs from 82 balls before edging a Mark Wood delivery behind the stumps. On the other hand, Usman Khawaja scored 157 deliveries for 47 runs.

And as the duo took the defensive approach with the bat, they ended up creating an Ashes record. The duo shared a 42-run stand in 26 overs. The partnership came at a run rate of 1.61, which is the slowest partnership in Ashes history among the pairs which faced a minimum of 150 balls in an innings together. The record was previously held by England’s Michael Carberry and Joe Root, who had scored at a run rate of 1.75 against Australia in Adelaide in 2013.

England National Cricket Team captain Ben Stokes has achieved a remarkable milestone in Test cricket and he has joined the legendary West Indies National Cricket Team all-rounder Sir Garfield Sobers and great South Africa National Cricket Team all-rounder Jacques Kallis in the elite list.

Ben Stokes is currently participating in the fifth and final Test of the Ashes 2023 at the Kennington Oval in London. England are 1-2 down in the series and they have failed to regain the Ashes urn. Heading into the fifth Test, Stokes had crossed the 6000 runs mark and 100 wickets mark in Test cricket. The all-rounder just needed to complete 100 catches to join the elite list and he did it in the 68th over of the Australian innings.

On the 5th ball of the 68th over, Joe Root delivered a full-length ball outside off-stump to Carey, and the batter got tempted to go for a big shot. The Australian wicketkeeper-batter targeted the cover region, but he only managed to hit it low at short cover where Stokes grabbed a good catch to complete the 100 Test catches landmark.
