New Zealand will lock horns with India in the 3rd and final T20I of the series at McLean Park on Tuesday. India are currently leading the series 1-0 and will look to finish the T20 series on a high. New Zealand on the other hand will be eager to level the series up before heading into the ODIs.

India

After a rain-washed day in Wellington, India had a win at the Bay Oval in the 2nd T20. It was Suryakumar Yadav whose flamboyance took India to a commendable total and then the bowlers defended a 190-plus total with ease. Mohammed Siraj and Yuzvendra Chahal bagged two wickets each and Deepak Hooda managed to scalp four wickets.

India might not tinker with their winning combination unless there are changes in the playing conditions. Shubman Gill could get a chance today but Sanju Samson, Umran Malik, Harshal Patel, and others might sit out.

New Zealand

New Zealand are coming into the game without their skipper Kane Williamson as he will be missing out due to a medical appointment scheduled on the same day. Mark Chapman has been drafted in as a cover and Tim Southee is going to lead the side in the 3rd and final T20I and will look to turn the tables.

Previously, the Kiwi batters failed to put up any sort of partnerships in the 2nd T20. Kane was the only one to steer the innings deep but at a very slow strike rate. The bowling also didn’t live up to the expectations against the Indian batting lineup, who were hammered all around the park by the brilliance of Suryakumar Yadav.

NZ vs IND Head-to-Head (in T20s): Out of 21 matches played between India and New Zealand, the men in blue have won on 12 occasions. While 9 matches have been won by New Zealand.

NZ vs IND: Pitch Report

The new ball bowlers will get lots of lateral movement early on at McLean Park, Napier. Batters will look to take advantage of the short square boundaries after getting their eye in. The spinners don’t have a good record at this venue. The team winning the toss will look to bowl first and chase down the target.

Indian opener Shubman Gill said that he had a chat with Yuvraj Singh ahead of the tour of Zimbabwe where he raised concerns over the inability to breach the 100-run mark in ODIs.

Gill was stranded on 98 during the tour of the West Indies due to rain playing spoilsport. Fortunately, he was quickly able to turn his fortunes around and scored a brilliant 97-ball 130 against Zimbabwe in the 3rd ODI.

I just met him before coming to Zimbabwe and he told me that I was batting well. He advised me to bat deep if I get set. I was telling him ke 100 nahi aa raha (I am not getting 100). He told me not to worry, it will come,” Gill told Kishan in a video released by the BCCI.

Finally!!! Well played @ShubmanGill u seriously deserved that Ton! Congratulations on your first 100. Many more to come this is just a start,” Yuvraj had tweeted in response to Gill’s century.

“We didn’t expect the game to get so tight” – Shubman Gill

After the first and second ODIs were one-sided in favor of India, Zimbabwe fought hard in the final game. Chasing 290, they were in charge at one point with Sikandar Raza leading the way with a sensational hundred.

However, he was caught by Gill at long-on in the penultimate over of the innings bowled by Shardul Thakur to end Zimbabwe’s hopes of a consolation victory.

We didn’t expect the game to get so tight, but this is cricket. When the ball went in the air, at first, I thought it was going to come to me at an easy pace, but the ball was dipping. So I just dived and took the catch,” Gill added.

Gill has cemented his place in the ODI side for now with his performances. He is yet to make a mark in the shortest format of the game.

Former Indian spinner Reetinder Sodhi said Indian batter KL Rahul would gain confidence from his recent outing in the third ODI against Zimbabwe.

Rahul, the stand-in skipper for India in the series, retained the opening slot with Shikhar Dhawan after India opted to bat first. The pair added 63 runs in 15 overs before Rahul departed on 30 off 46 balls, hitting one four and a six.

KL Rahul-led India won by 13 runs in the third ODI

Shubman Gill registered his maiden international hundred – 130 in 97 balls – plundering 15 boundaries and a six to take India’s total to 289/8 in the first innings. This was the highest individual score by an Indian batter in Zimbabwe.

Rahul played international cricket after a hiatus of six months owing to injury woes. Rahul didn’t open the innings in the first match to make the way for Gill and Dhawan. He could add just one run in the second game before flowing some runs in the last game.

KL Rahul’s confidence would have increased after this game: Reetinder Sodhi

Sodhi, who played 18 ODI matches for India, feels the Indian opener will be pleased with those handful of runs ahead of Asia Cup 2022.

It was pleasing to see that KL Rahul was in good touch today. He hadn’t played any competitive cricket in recent months and looked a bit rusty in the first game. But today, his mindset looked good and his feet were moving nicely,” Sodhi told India News Sports.

“He knows that these games are crucial for him as he is a certainty for the T20 World Cup. When in form, he has the ability to take the game away from the opposition. KL Rahul’s confidence would have increased after this game,” he added.

India swept Zimbabwe 3-0 in the ODI series after Shardul Thakur and Avesh Khan pulled off the game in the slog overs. Sikandar Raza scored a breathtaking century as a matter of resilience but missed the chance to take his side past the finishing line.

Former Indian cricketer Maninder Singh said that KL Rahul and co. were passive during the 3-match ODI series against Zimbabwe that concluded on Monday.

India won the series 3-0 but the first two games were one-sided after they opted to bowl first. Zimbabwe couldn’t put up a fight but in the third ODI, they gave the visitors a scare before wilting away.

That should have been the idea of this series basically. You won the first two tosses as well, as you won today and you batted first. You should have taken some more challenge on because everybody knew this Zimbabwe side is not very strong.

Sikandar Raza

If they had batted first, probably they would have had more to gain, which was a little disappointing. Sometimes the Indians do that and I feel why. This was an opportunity to test your opening batters in difficult conditions and then test your bowlers when the conditions become good for batting, which happened today,” Singh told Sony Sports.

“This was a good testing for the Indians” – Maninder Singh on 3rd ODI

At one point on Monday, Sikandar Raza was well set to take Zimbabwe home. He had scored his third century in six innings but fell to Shardul Thakur in the penultimate over, effectively ending Zimbabwe’s chances of chasing 290.

Shubman Gill

This was a good testing for the Indians. They came out winning this game and I am sure that should have given some confidence to them because the bowlers who got hit and brought Zimbabwe back into the game, they brought Indians back into the game. So these kinds of things don’t give you confidence. I was a little disappointed with the way they went about this series,” he concluded.

Indian all-rounder Axar Patel opened up on being sidelined in white-ball cricket over the years.

Axar was part of India’s squad in the recently concluded three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe. He played in all three games and returned with six wickets at 12.33 and an economy of 3.02.

How Axar Patel returned to India’s ODI side?

An injury to senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja ahead of the West Indies ODIs allowed Axar the opportunity to make a comeback in the format after close to five years. The last ODI  before the West Indies series Axar played was against New Zealand in October 2017.

He starred in the second ODI, which India won by two wickets. The all-rounder was unbeaten on 64 off 35 deliveries, hammering three fours and five sixes at a strike rate over 182.

I back myself and train my mind: Axar Patel

The 28-year-old admitted that it has been a challenge for him to cement his position in the white-ball teams but won’t stop backing himself.

“It is a little tough when you play two matches and suddenly you’ve to sit out,” Axar said at the post-match press conference after India’s 13-run win over Zimbabwe in the third ODI.

“And then again you play two or three matches. It’s tough but I back myself and train my mind to think that this is the opportunity for you to do well.

“If I do well here, I’ll get to play the next game. I can also play with the (cribbing) mindset that I get dropped after getting a couple of opportunities but I take it in a positive way that I’m getting an opportunity to perform for India. If I do well, I’ll improve myself. So it’s on you how you take it,” he added.

India swept Zimbabwe 3-0 in the ODI series after Shardul Thakur and Avesh Khan pulled off the game in the slog overs. Sikandar Raza scored a breathtaking century as a matter of resilience but missed the chance to take his side past the finishing line.

Mohammad Kaif believes Sanju Samson can compete for the No. 5 or No. 6 spot for Team India, as there are no open spots in the top four.

On Monday, August 22, Samson scored 15 runs off 13 deliveries, including two sixes, in the third ODI against Zimbabwe in Harare.

The Men in Blue set a difficult 290-run target for the hosts and went on to win by 13 runs.

Sanju Samson Is Doing A Very Good Job For Himself: Mohammad Kaif

Kaif was asked about Samson’s performance in the series and his Team India prospects during a discussion on Sony Sports. He responded:

“He looked good, he didn’t get to bat in the first match, but he has hit six sixes in the two innings he has played. There is no place at the top. You have KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli will come and Suryakumar Yadav is also there.”

He also reckoned that Samson’s big-hitting ability could earn him a spot as a game-changer down the order. The former Indian batter went on to explain: “Your future is bright if you have the six-hitting ability because there is a place at No. 5 or No. 6 where he can stake his claim. Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant play there. You can get a place there.

Sanju Samson

He is doing a very good job for himself. Sanju Samson will have to be praised. The ability he has a batter to hit straight sixes with a high backlift, amongst the new batters, very few players have that ability.

He comes in the middle overs and hits three or four sixes. If you have dismissed the top order, the fielding team thinks that they can grab the game there. There Sanju Samson knows how to hit good balls for sixes. He has the game-changing ability, which he showed in the West Indies. He is batting at a high strike rate, changing the momentum.”

Samson was the player of the match in the 2nd ODI.

India overcame the Sikandar Raza storm late in the game to sweep Zimbabwe 3-0 in the ODI with their 13-run win in the third and final ODI in Harare on Monday (August 22).

Indian batter Shubman Gill registered maiden international hundred – 130 in 97 balls – plundering 15 boundaries and a six to take India’s total to 289/8 in the first innings. This was the highest individual score by an Indian batter in Zimbabwe.

Sikandar Raza ton delayed India’s victory

Zimbabwe were 169 for seven with the only significant contribution of Sean Williams (45 off 46) was the highlight of the chase. It was time before Sikandar Raza and Brad Evans combined together to menace India with their 104-run stand.

Evans contributed 28 runs in the burgeoning partnership that brought the climax in the game. Raza, who had a tough time in this series with scores of 12 and 16 in the first two games, played the aggressor’s role in an attempt to spoil the party for the Men in Blues.

Raza survived the stumping chance off Kuldeep Yadav’s bowling while batting on 23. From there on, he slapped a boundary and a six to Deepak Chahar to press the accelerator button.

Raza smashed Shardul Thakur for three boundaries in the 39th over, which went for 20 runs. Zimbabwe needed 95 runs from the last 10 overs with just three wickets in hand.

But Raza was not ready to leave this without putting a fight. He launched Deepak Chahar for a six-over cover to notch up his sixth ODI ton. Raza smashed Avesh Khan for four and a six to bring the equation to 17 runs of the last two overs.

Avesh dented Zimbabwe’s chances before they could get close to the target. The Madhya Pradesh pacer trapped Evans in front of the stumps to end the threatening partnership.

A stunning catch by centurion Gill calmed India’s nerves as Raza’s spectacular fightback came to an end.

The way Sikandar Raza was batting in the last 10 overs, we felt he could snatch the game away. But we backed our plans and did not relax till the last ball. We decided to put in our best effort till the very end. I think that benefited us a lot,” Axar said in the post-match press conference.

“The bowlers executed their plans very well. Avesh Khan was bowling his yorkers, Shardul Thakur was sending down slower ones and wide yorkers. He was mixing it up. Overall, it was an interesting match,” he added.

Some of the Indian players will leave for the United Arab Emirates to join the squad for the Asia Cup 2022, starting on August 27.

Shubman Gill has had outstanding results in white-ball cricket, but former cricketer Saba Karim is skeptical that he will be included in India’s ODI playing XI when Rohit Sharma returns.

While Rohit and Shikhar Dhawan would continue to be the ideal openers in the 50-over format, he said Gill will undoubtedly be included in the squad. He recommended that the team’s leadership have patience with the rookie player.

Regarding Gill’s possibilities in the future T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022, he expressed the opinion that the selectors should keep choosing players who are already in their plans for T20 cricket. Karim clarified:

“It is crucial to avoid causing the selections and team management too much confusion. They should stick with that group if they have selected 14–15 individuals who they believe will play T20 cricket.”

“Shubman Gill’s impressive form demonstrates that he is now prepared to firmly establish his position on the team. However, sometimes patience is required. As Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan will still be India’s preferred openers, it is unclear if he can make the starting XI despite appearing to have secured his spot in the ODI squad.

‘Shubman Gill is a classy batter’: Reetinder Sodhi

Reetinder Sodhi, a former all-rounder for India, praised Gill highly following his 130-run performance against Zimbabwe in the series’ penultimate ODI. He emphasized how proficient technically the right-handed batter is.

The 41-year-old admitted that Gill’s father, who forced him to work hard in the nets when he was younger, had a significant part in the development of his career. Sodhi stated:

“Shubman Gill has a great technical foundation and is a gentleman batter. He appears to have a lot of time and is powerful both with his front and back feet. For technique, he gets a perfect 10.”

“His father forced him to practice batting in the nets for several hours as a result of his father’s intense practice. His chances of being selected for upcoming series have improved thanks to his century.”

The team led by KL Rahul won the series 3-0 over the hosts. Shubman Gill was named Player of the Series for his batting ability.

KL Rahul led India to a clean sweep against Zimbabwe in the three-match series. India won the series 3-0 ahead of their Asia Cup campaign which starts next Sunday against Pakistan. While he fetched marks for his leadership skills, Rahul did not take his chances with the bat. He will make a comeback for India in the Asia Cup 2022 against Pakistan in Dubai next Sunday.

KL Rahul scored 1 and 30 in the two innings that he batted in the series. He did not open the innings in the first ODI and India eventually won the game by 10 wickets. In his next game for India, he is likely to open the batting for India against Pakistan in the Asia Cup.

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja was critical of Rahul for not making the most of his opportunities in the three-match series. He criticised him for not opening the batting in the first ODI as well.

“The only one who has probably gone home disappointed is the one who has fielded 110 overs and he thinks it’s 150. He didn’t get to bat enough and he has no one else to blame but himself – not choosing to bat the three times that you could have” said Jadeja.

The former Indian cricketer further hailed Shubman Gill and pointed him out as the biggest positive for India in the series. Gill opened the batting in the first ODI and batted at number three I the next two games scoring consistently.

“The biggest gain I think is Shubman, not just his batting but the versatility that he has shown. Even at No. 3, he has looked as comfortable. Shikhar Dhawan – good as usual, he is still doing what he did 10 years ago for you. Ishan Kishan – once he got in, he got run out. That’s not something you worry about so much” said Jadeja on Gill.

The young opener scored 245 runs in the three ODIs and won the Man of the Series award. He scored his maiden ODI ton in the final game against Zimbabwe. This is his second MOS award after he won it against West Indies for scoring 205 runs in the three-match series.

Deepak Hooda has been a regular member of the Indian white-ball side ever since making his debut in February earlier this year. He also scored his maiden T20I century in the T20I series against Ireland. The management has been naming him in the ODI and T20I squads in every series since the start of the year.

Deepak Hooda has given the selectors a good option for the much-debatable number four slot in the Indian playing XI. Hooda has performed consistently well and is now among the front runners to be named in India’s T20 World Cup squad for the event in Australia later this year.

Meanwhile, former Indian fielding coach R Sridhar, who has seen Hooda from close quarters has shared some funny instances from his initial days as a cricketer. Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has also shared many stories about Deepak’s talent and potential.

Talking to Cricket.com, Sridhar lauded Hooda’s growth and considers him a permanent member of India’s white-ball setup moving forward. He also called Hooda ‘coach killer’ from his U-19 days.

Deepak Hooda Was A Coach Killer: R Sridhar

“He has come of age. I have known him since his U-19 days, when I was a coach there. [He was] young, enthusiastic, and hardworking. I used to call him a coach killer because he loves to practice and practice. Even during his U-19 days, he used to come up and ask, ‘Sir, let’s do a power-hitting session’. He loved it,” recalled Sridhar.

Sridhar further spoke about how he denied Hooda from taking power-hitting sessions as he would hit expensive cricket balls outside the stadium and lose them in the process.

“We used to tell him, ‘No Deepak, you are not coming because you are hitting the balls into Cubbon Park (a famous area in Bengaluru) and we are losing expensive white kookaburra balls. You are not supposed to hit the ball there, across the road’. He used to have a laugh,” he added.

The IPL 2022 turned out to be an important season for Hooda. He scored 451 runs batting at number three and four for Lucknow Super Giants making this his most productive IPL season. That helped him break into the Indian side and he has not looked back ever since. He has played 8 ODIs and 9 T20Is  so far this year for India contributing consistently with the bat.

Reetinder Singh Sodhi, a former cricketer for India, thinks that Kuldeep Yadav failed to make use of his opportunities during the just finished three-match ODI series in Zimbabwe.

He claimed, in an interview with India News Sports, that the wrist spinner required to put up exceptional performances, something he was unable to achieve. He thinks the left-arm needs to pitch with more consistency if he wants to keep his spot on the squad.

Kuldeep Yadav may not be able to earn a spot in the Men in the Blue team for the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2022, the 41-year-old also said. To quote Reetinder Singh Sodhi:

“To capture the hearts of the selectors, Kuldeep Yadav needed to perform well on this tour.” He bowled effectively in this match, but he has to improve his consistency. He will be disappointed because he could have done better.”

” It remains to be seen whether he is called up for the T20 World Cup, although his chances appear to be slim at the present.”

‘Ishan Kishan hasn’t got consistent opportunities to play’: Reetinder Singh Sodhi

Ishan Kishan’s resurgence was also discussed by Reetinder Singh Sodhi after the left-hander scored 50 runs off only 61 balls on Monday. He underlined that the southpaw took a more patient approach and did not play his natural game.

As the former all-rounder, batters frequently act in this way after having a poor recent run of performance. According to Sodhi, the swashbuckler would have grown very confident after accumulating some runs. Reetinder Sodhi added in detail:

“Ishan Kishan does not frequently have the chance to play. Because there were not any runs behind his back, he did not play his normal game today. But after this fifty, his confidence would have risen. For India, his return to form is a plus.”

The team led by KL Rahul won the series 3-0 over the hosts. Shubman Gill was named Player of the Series for his batting ability.

He excels at playing the short ball, which indicates that you are proficient enough to compete at the international level. He shows how much time he has by pulling the ball towards mid-on and mid-wicket rather than square leg”

Harbhajan adds: “He’s a sorted batsman, who has a sound method, and superb shot choice. In phrases of quality of batsmanship, I might bracket him with the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul within the present Indian staff. You love to watch them bat.”

‘I had made three nineties but wanted to get a century’: Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill won Player of the Series and Player of the Match awards for his performances. He said, “I was just trying to minimize my dot-ball percentage.” Shubman Gill scored 245 runs in the series and 130 runs in the third ODI. I only tried to hit the ball softly and at the right time. Targeting the bowlers was essential because Raza and Evans were bowling brilliantly.”

“I replaced the bat after my fifty because I wanted to keep it because it was a decent bat. In the post-game presentation, It is always amazing to get a hundred; I had made three nineties but wanted to get a century” Gill stated.

With 15 fours and a six, Gill’s 97-ball 130 was the highest individual ODI score by an Indian in Zimbabwe.

Shubman Gill scored his maiden ODI ton in the third ODI against Zimbabwe on August 22, Monday. He scored 130 off 97 balls batting at number three to take India to 289/8. They won the game by 13 runs as the hosts were bowled out for 276 as they tried to chase the score down. Sikandar Raza scored 115 off 95 balls for his side but his effort went in vain as India completed a whitewash.

The series has been a memorable one for Shubman Gill as he ended as the Man of the series scoring 245 runs in three games. Gill was also the Man of the Series in the series against West Indies prior to the one against Zimbabwe. He is up there as one of the options for the third openers’ slot in ODI cricket for India. Gill scored 483 runs in IPL 2022 and since then has been consistent in whatever little opportunities he has got for the national team.

Meanwhile, in the post-match press conference, Axar Patel spoke about Shubman Gill’s innings and his demeanour as a cricketer. He was asked whether the Indian opener is serious off the field as he looks on it. Patel came up with an epic response to this query from one of the reporters.

Axar Patel

“Itna serious nahi hai, jab batting karta hai toh serious ho jaata hai (He is not so serious. He gets serious while batting). He (Gill) jokes around with everyone. But mostly he enjoys with Ishan (Kishan), me and Avesh (Khan),” said Axar.

Axar also spoke about how the Indian opener has worked on reducing his dot-ball percentage. He said that not conceding too many dot balls is one of Gill’s strengths.

“He is taking singles and twos more regularly and is not playing a lot of dot balls. I think that is his biggest positive. Whenever he bats, he makes it a point to keep rotating the strike. He also converts bad balls into boundaries. He also plays spinners very well and is very good with the sweep and reverse sweep,” he said.

Gill has played 9 ODIs so far and has scored 474 runs with three fifties and a hundred averaging 71.29 and striking at 105.27.

Watch: Shikhar Dhawan Gives Amazing Response To A Fan Holding A Sign Asking For His Shirt

India opener Shikhar Dhawan was seen giving a hilarious and amazing response to a fan’s request for his shirt during the third ODI against Zimbabwe in Harare on August 22, 2022. India won a close contest by 13 runs and pocketed the series 3-0.

KL Rahul, the Indian captain had won the toss for the third straight time and this time chose to bat first. India had made a couple of changes, with Deepak Chahar and Avesh Khan coming in for Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna.

India batted well with Shikhar Dhawan (40) and captain Rahul (30) adding 63 runs for the first wicket. Then Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan (50) added valuable 140 runs for the third wicket, after which Gill changed gears and went onto score his maiden ODI century off just 82 balls. He was dismissed in the last over for 130 runs in 97 balls with 15 fours and 1 six.

During India’s innings, Shikhar Dhawan was seen sitting in the balcony of the Indian dressing room. The camera person caught a fan holding a sign which read: ‘Shikhar, can I have your shirt?”

This sign was also noticed by Dhawan who in jest proceeded to remove his practice jersey halfway through before smiling and putting it back on. Dhawan was also seen wearing the no. 54 jersey when he came out to bat with the name of the original player taped to keep it hidden.

Zimbabwe Fall Closely Short Despite Sikandar Raza’s Valiant Ton

Speaking of the chase from Zimbabwe, they paced it well with Sean Williams making 45, but it was Sikandar Raza who scored a valiant 115 in 95 balls with 9 fours and 3 sixes to take Zimbabwe close to the 290-run target. He got some support from Brad Evans, who added 28 runs to his 5/54 earlier.

But in the end, Indian bowlers prevailed as Zimbabwe was bowled out for 276 and lost by 13 runs. Avesh Khan picked 3/66, while Deepak Chahar, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel picked two wickets each.

At the Harare Sports Club on Monday, Shubman Gill’s first ODI century helped India defeat Zimbabwe by a score of 289 for 8. (August 22).

As the highest individual ODI score by an Indian in Zimbabwe, Gill’s 97-ball 130 included 15 fours and a six.

He also collaborated with Ishan Kishan (50) on a 140-run third-wicket stand to help India post a challenging total.

For Zimbabwe, Brad Evans (5-54) was the standout bowler, recording his first five-wicket haul.

Evans finished with his first ODI five-for while conceding only seven more runs.

His father, the former Zimbabwe all-rounder Craig Evans, who was watching from the stands, applauded as he had Gill caught at long-off for 130 and Shardul Thakur chip a deceptive slower ball to mid-off.

Shikhar Dhawan earlier started off with a flurry of boundaries, driving, cutting, and flicking in the first few overs after KL Rahul won the toss again and chose to bat first this time. Rahul, however, got off to a slow start and took some time to calm down.

The Zimbabwean bowlers, who initially had inconsistent lines and lengths, quickly tightened up as they managed to contain the openers. Nyauchi bowled a maiden to Dhawan, who also received a break when Richard Ngarava put him down at point.

Even after Sikandar Raza’s brilliant century, the hosts fell short by 13 runs.

After losing the series 3-0. Regis Chakabva said, “firstly congratulations to India, I thought they played well. India held their nerves even though Sikandar and Evans gave us the chance. Huge positives today from the bowling. The boys fought really hard on the field. We talk about coming back from tough situations and Raza was brilliant. We definitely take a lot of positives and look at those things down under.”

I Just Tried To Minimise The Dot-Ball Percentage: Shubman Gill

Shikhar Dhawan had earlier started the first few overs with a flurry of boundaries, driving, cutting, and flicking. Rahul won the toss yet again and chose to bat first. Rahul, on the other hand, got off to a slow start and never looked settled eventually losing his wicket for just 30.

The Zimbabwean bowlers, who bowled inconsistent lines and lengths at first, quickly tightened up as they were able to contain the openers. Dhawan was also given a life when Richard Ngarava put him down at point but he could not make the most of it.

Shubman Gill scored 245 runs in the series and scored 130 in the third ODI and was awarded the Player of the Series and Player of the Match respectively for his performance, “I was just trying to minimise my dot-ball percentage. I just tried to time the ball and not hit it hard. Raza and Evans were bowling well and it was crucial to target the bowlers. The bat was pretty good and that’s why I changed it after my fifty as I wanted to save it. Shubman Gill’s stunning catch in the penultimate over of a tense chase and a classy maiden ODI century gave India a thrilling 13-run win to complete a 3-0 whitewash after Sikandar Raza’s fighting century had brought the hosts back from the dead. Raza’s knock took Zimbabwe from 169 for 7 in a chase of 290 to a point where they needed 15 to win from nine balls.

Gill, who stole the show in the first innings, came in between the dismissals of KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan, who put on 63 for the first wicket after the visitors decided to bat.

The 22-year-old felt no pressure and played his shots confidently as he helped India make good progress. While Ishan Kishan had a cautious start, Gill kept the boundaries coming, unleashing a repertoire of shots around the park that included exquisite drives, powerful sweeps, cuts, a deft scoop, and a glance.

Gill rocketed to three figures after reaching 50 off 51 deliveries with his 100 off 81 deliveries. Kishan was on 9 off 21 at one point before he, too, began hitting the fence, scoring his second ODI fifty off 61 balls.

IND vs ZIM: Twitter Reacts As Sikandar Raza Hits Sensational Century vs India In 3rd ODI

KL Rahul won his third toss in a row but chose to bat to expose his batters to the “challenging” conditions early on. While Shikhar Dhawan patiently saw off the new ball, Rahul looked out of sorts, crawling to 24 off 43 before chopping on for 30 off Brad Evans.

Dhawan launched India’s innings with three fours in his first ten balls, but Zimbabwe responded with tight bowling. When Richard Ngarava and Victor Nyauchi noticed Dhawan pounced on balls that were too short or too full, they stuck to tight lines and good lengths, which kept both India openers in check.

After that, it was all Shubman Gill. He walked in at a time when India was batting at just over four runs per over. He timed the ball perfectly, drove confidently whenever the ball was even slightly pitched up, swept the ball into gaps, and kept the score ticking even as Kishan eased himself in. Gill’s maiden ODI century scored at a much faster rate than any of his teammates propelled India to 289 in the third ODI in Harare.

Gill survived a close lbw appeal in the 43rd over off Evans, and a review revealed he had a thick edge, but Zimbabwe still got a wicket off that ball, with Kishan run out while the fielders were still appealing for the lbw.

If It was Gill for India, it was Sikandar Raza for Zimbabwe who hit yet another century for his side to kept the team in the chase. It was his 6th ODI century and 3rd century in the last 6 innings. The home side looked out of the game for most part but Raza got an able partner in Brad Evans who both first saw off India spinners and then went after the Indian seamers.

Former India selector Saba Karim expressed satisfaction that the current team management is sticking with fast bowler Prasidh Krishna in the ongoing ODI series against Zimbabwe despite his poor performances in the previous series against the West Indies and England.

Krishna took just two wickets in two One-Day Internationals against England and one wicket in two matches against the West Indies. Krishna finished the Zimbabwe tour with figures of 3/50 and 1/28 before being rested for the final ODI.

There Is Still So Much To Learn For Prasidh Krishna: Saba Karim

“Yes, and you know what, against West Indies in the ODI, if I remember correctly, he didn’t have a very good outing. It’s good to see that the Indian team management is persistent with Prasidh Krishna and that’s been the hallmark of this new set-up,” Saba Karim said while speaking on SPORTS18.

“Once they trust a player, they want to give him enough chances and that helps a player not to be so afraid of any failures and that is what we saw in the last outing of Prasidh Krishna.

He did well, he was able to change his length. That wicket that he took from a Yorker against a well-settled bat. That was quite good to see.

“There’s still so much to learn for him. His track record outside India hasn’t been really good because he’s more of hitting the hard length kind of a bowler and abroad, you need to change your length so that you’re able to pick wickets as well as be economical. But I think these are great signs for Prasidh Krishna as the more he plays I’m sure he’ll improve, and he’ll add to the rich pool of Indian pace bowlers that we see right now,” Saba added.

Krishna has not impressed in the Zimbabwe series as well.

The 27-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson, while talking about the impact of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on his career, said it has changed his “perspective towards cricket”.

Sanju Samson was appointed as the skipper of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) franchise ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Samson failed to leave a big impact as a skipper in the IPL 2021, but in the IPL 2022, he led the team to the final of the tournament. RR won 9 out of 14 games in the Indian Premier League 2022.

Ahead of the third ODI of the three-match ODI series between the India National Cricket Team and  Zimbabwe National Cricket Team, Sanju Samson said that the captaincy responsibility in the IPL helped him to bring out a different mindset. He said:

“It has changed my perspective towards cricket. Earlier I used to think only about my batting, my game. Captaincy helps bring a different mindset – think about others as well apart from your game.”

The wicketkeeper-batsman further said that he is surprised to see his huge fan following, despite playing very few international games for the India National Cricket Team.

“I feel surprised [on his fan following] that despite playing very little for India, I get good support.

“I feel there are a lot more Malayalis as I hear cheers of “Chetta, Chetta” which makes me feel proud,” Sanju Samson said while speaking to Rohan Gavaskar ahead of the commencement of the 3rd ODI against Zimbabwe, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

While talking about the second ODI, he said that he was pumped up to be in a pressure situation and enjoyed his time in the middle. He asserted:

“I was really pumped up to be there in pressure situation and they were also bowling well. I really enjoyed the time in the middle. I am a believer that whatever you go through in your career, you have to take it in a positive manner.

“I really enjoyed playing domestic cricket in the last four-five years. It is challenging to do well there and that has made me be a better player.”

In both the games of the series so far, India restricted the hosts below 200 and then went on to win the games quite comfortably with more than 100 balls to spare each time. India’s strength has been their pace bowling in this series. The batters have also shown great intent so far.

For the hosts, a lot of improvement needs to be addressed. Apart from their batting collapse, bowling has also been an issue for them as their bowlers have failed to provide them with regular breakthroughs.

The hosts would be aiming to improve on some of these areas and give a fierce fightback to the men in blue in the last game of the series. Team India would be hoping for another win to wrap up the series in style.

Shardul Thakur became the chief architect of the destruction with the ball this time as he went on to grab 3 wickets. The other bowlers received one wicket each.

India and Zimbabwe will meet in the third and final ODI of the series. ZIM vs IND 3rd ODI is scheduled to be played on Monday (August 22) at the Harare Sports Club, the same venue for the first two ODI matches.

India crushed  Zimbabwe by 10 wickets in the first ODI and repeated a similar defeat in the second game by five wickets to seal the series 2-0. The visitors will eye for another whitewash in the African nation, but for Regis Chakabava and his men, the search for a consolation win will be the motive.

Indian bowlers have been on the top of their game, particularly the seam bowlers. If Deepak Chahar’s 3/27 on return to ODI cricket helped India to bowl out Zimbabwe for 189, then Shardul Thakur, who replaced Chahar in the second game, registered 3 for 38 from seven overs to give the hosts another taste of bowling supremacy.

Indian openers Shubman Gill and Shikhar Dhawan looked solid in the first game with brisk half-centuries. Both the batters returned with the exact figures of 33 apiece in the second game.

India’s stand-in captain KL Rahul will have one last opportunity to bat ahead of the Asia Cup 2022. In the first ODI, the Karnataka player sacrificed the opening slot to accommodate Gill and Dhawan.  Players like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rahul Tripathi, Avesh Khan and Shahbaz Ahmed could be handed an opportunity given that India have won the series.

During India’s last three visits to Zimbabwe (2013, 2015 and 2016), the results have been swept against the hosts.

The top order of Zimbabwe including Innocent Kaia, Takudzwanashe Kaitano, Tadiwanashe Marumani and Wessely Madhevere have been under fire in the series so far. One of them needs to play a big match inning to fancy the chance of posting a huge score.

Sean Williams (42) and Ryan Burl (39) contributed with essential runs in the middle during the second ODI. The hosts haven’t been able to combine with big partnerships and that is something they must build on in the final game.

Besides Luke Jongwe’s couple of wickets in the last game, there is nothing for Zimbabwe to look at with their bowling performance in this series. Picking early and regular wickets will only put pressure on the opposition and ultimately determine their chances of a victory.

Zimbabwe ODI Squad: Tadiwanashe Marumani, Milton Shumba, Ryan Burl, Innocent Kaia, Takudzwanashe Kaitano, Wesley Madhevere, Sikandar Raza, Brad Evans, Tony Munyonga, Regis Chakabva, Clive Madande, Tanaka Chivanga, Luke Jongwe, John Masara, Richard Ngarava, Victor Nyauchi, Donald Tiripano.

ZIM vs IND: Zimbabwe’s Predicted Playing XI Against India, 3rd ODI

Let’s look at Zimbabwe’s predicted XI against India in the third ODI.

1) Takudzwanashe Kaitano

Kaitano replaced Tadiwanashe Marumani in the second match and played 32 balls to just add seven runs to the team’s tally before nicking off Mohammed Siraj behind the wicket for his dismissal. Kaitano is yet to create any impact with the national side having scored 55 runs in six outings in the 50-over format.

India

Indian bowlers have been on the top of their game, particularly the seam bowlers. If Deepak Chahar’s 3/27 on return to ODI cricket helped India to bowl out Zimbabwe for 189, then Shardul Thakur, who replaced Chahar in the second game, registered 3 for 38 from seven overs to give the hosts another taste of bowling supremacy.

Shardul Thakur

India ODI squad: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Rahul Tripathi, Shikhar Dhawan, Deepak Hooda, Shahbaz Ahmed, Axar Patel, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, KL Rahul, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, Deepak Chahar.

India and Zimbabwe face off each other in the third and final ODI of the three-match series in Harare on August 22, Monday. India won the first two games and the series in the process. The site is now looking to complete a clean sweep and end the series on a high ahead of the Asia Cup 2022. For Zimbabwe, the final ODI is a chance to salvage their pride by winning the game.

The Indian team made several experiments in the first two games. Some have paid off some haven’t. KL Rahul not scoring runs in the first two games have been a matter of concern. After his comeback, he did not bat in the first game and was dismissed for just 1 while opening the batting.

” I do need some time in the middle, obviously playing this series was important for me to take some runs and confidence away, unfortunately, didn’t work out today. They do have some quality bowlers, I saw that in the previous series against Bangladesh as well. The bowlers came strong at us, a good challenge for us. We are here to play good cricket and win, every opportunity is an honour, so we want to go out there next time also to enjoy ourselves and put a good performance” he said on his performance and the performance of the team.

India has made a lot of experiments in their first two games. Some have worked some haven’t but several players have put their hand up and performed at various stages of the game. KL Rahul, not scoring runs so far has been the only blip in an otherwise fruitful campaign for India.

” I do need some time in the middle, obviously playing this series was important for me to take some runs and confidence away, unfortunately, didn’t work out today. They do have some quality bowlers, I saw that in the previous series against Bangladesh as well. The bowlers came strong at us, a good challenge for us. We are here to play good cricket and win, every opportunity is an honour, so we want to go out there next time also to enjoy ourselves and put a good performance” said Rahul on his performance and the performance of the team after the second ODI.

The hosts will have to play the final ODI for pride and try to salvage a win. Skipper Regis Chakabva said that they had fewer runs on the board in the second ODI and did not have the fighting spirit which they need in the final game.

“Last few games we struggled to pick up early wickets and we managed to do that. Today we were short of a few runs. We were up for the challenge, the bowlers hit their lengths really well” said the Zimbabwe skipper after the game.

The visitors won the first ODI by 10 wickets and the second by five wickets and are leading the series 2-0. The KL Rahul-led side has already sealed the ODI series 2-0. Now, India will be aiming for a whitewash and take positives into the Asia Cup 2022.

The hosts’ Zimbabwe was no match for India’s ruthlessness and quality in the 2nd ODI match. India wrestled down the hosts in the second ODI match too and went on to take an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the ODI series. They will look to experiment with a few more players in the 3rd and final ODI match and look to audition for the future.

Zimbabwe on the other hand will be searching for that big performance from any player that might give them an upper hand to fight the strong Indian team. The hosts would be hoping to put up a healthy score onboard. On both occasions, they were all out for below 200.

India won the match by 5 wickets as they scored 167/5 in 25.4 overs. MOM Sanju Samson top scored with 43 runs and led the team to the victory.  Shikhar Dhawan (33 runs), Shubman Gill (33 runs), and Deepak Hooda (25 runs) in the match. The likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rahul Tripathi might get a chance in playing XI in this 3rd and final ODI match.

A complete bowling performance led by Shardul Thakur’s three-for (3-38), followed by a 56-run partnership between Deepak Hooda and Sanju Samson, helped India inflict a 14th straight ODI defeat on Zimbabwe to win the three-ODI series, on Saturday in Harare, with one game to go.

Shardul Thakur got the most wickets for India on the match day. But it was a collective effort, with Mohammed Siraj’s eight overs going for just 16 runs, and all the bowlers on the show getting among the wickets to bowl Zimbabwe out for 161. In reply, the visitors cruised home with five wickets and more than 24 overs to spare.

India 167 for 5 (Samson 43*, Jongwe 2-33) beat Zimbabwe 161 (Williams 42, Burl 39*, Thakur 3-38) by five wickets

After having returned from a long injury lay-off, Deepak Chahar bowled extremely well in the first ODI against Zimbabwe where he took as many as three wickets and moreover bowled seven back-to-back overs in a single spell. The right-arm pacer was also named the Player of the Match for his special performance. But he was rested for the 2nd ODI to manage his workload.

He may return for the 3rd ODI which also may see Rahul Tripathi and Ruturaj Gaikwad debut in ODI format. The likes of batters Shubman Gill, Shikhar Dhawan, and pacers Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj may be rested for the 3rd inconsequential ODI.

Ruturaj Gaikwad had impressed with 635 runs at a strike rate of 136.26 in IPL 2021 even winning Orange Cap but his tally came down to 368 in IPL 2022, with a strike rate of 126.46. In 14 matches with Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2022, Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 368 runs, with a high score of 99.

Ruturaj Gaikwad scored his maiden international fifty in the third game after setbacks in the first two matches of the home South Africa T20I series. Ruturaj Gaikwad went after the express pace of Anrich Nortje in the fifth over of the India innings, hammering four fours on way to making 57 off 35 deliveries. In 9 T20Is, the opener had scored 135 runs averaging 16.88 but is yet to debut in ODIs. The 3rd inconsequential ODI may see him get a chance to open the innings.

Their big guns Sikandar Raza, Sean Williams, and Regis Chakabva have not contributed much. Zimbabwe performed well against Bangladesh, but so far against India, they have looked abysmal. In the third ODI, the hosts would look to put on a good overall display with bat and ball.

Sean Williams

Zimbabwe was rocked early in this match with the scorecard reading 31/4. Sean Williams (42 runs) and Ryan Burl (39 runs) tried their best to steady the ship in the middle order but once they were dismissed their lower order was bundled down to 161-all out. Their batters need to apply themselves and bat out the 50 overs first in this 3rd and final ODI match.

Zimbabwe bowlers took wickets at regular intervals but they never had enough runs to trouble the opposition. Luke Jongwe took 2 wickets while the trio of Tanaka Chivanga, Sikandar Raza, and Victor Nyachi took a wicket each in the match. Their bowlers did not have enough runs to defend in the match.

India vs Zimbabwe Head To Head Records, 3rd ODI, India Tour Of Zimbabwe 2022

The teams have played a total of 65 ODIs, with India having the advantage of 53 victories. Zimbabwe has registered 10 wins. The two teams drew twice in ODIs, first in 1993 (Indore) and then in 1997 (Paarl). The two teams first faced off in an ODI game in 1983, the eighth match of the Prudential World Cup in Leicester.

The two sides have played nine bilateral series, with India emerging victorious eight times(including the current one). Zimbabwe has won just one, a two-match series in 1996-97. While they won the opening match by eight wickets, the second game was cancelled. Since July 2013, India has won 14 consecutive ODI matches against Zimbabwe with their most recent encounter ending in a 5-wicket victory at Harare in 2022.

Dinesh Mongia’s unbeaten knock of 159 in 147 balls powered India to 333/6 in 50 overs in 2002 at Guwahati. The visitors have the highest total of 333/6 against Zimbabwe in ODIs and Zimbabwe, on the other hand, has the highest total of 289/4 against India in ODIs.

Given a target of 227 in a 2005 Triangular series, Zimbabwe was bowled out for 65 with pacer Irfan Pathan registering his career-best figures of 5/27.

Sachin Tendulkar is India’s leading run-getter against Zimbabwe in ODIs, with 1,377 runs in 34 matches at an average of 49.17. Andy Flower who was a legend of Zimbabwe cricket has scored 1298 runs against the Asian Giants in ODIs which is the highest by any Zimbabwe player.

Kapil Dev hit the highest individual score in an ODI fixture between the two sides. During their 1983 Cricket World Cup 60-over game, Kapil Dev slammed a blitzkrieg unbeaten 175 off 138 balls. Interestingly, 100 runs from the knock came from just fours and sixes.

Andy Flower’s 145 against the Asian Giants in the 2002 Champions Trophy is the highest individual score by a Zimbabwe player against India in ODIs.

Innocent Kaia

Innocent Kaia has featured in 8 ODIs and as many T20Is to date. He has managed 265 ODI runs averaging 33.12 with 1 ton and 1 fifty. He scored his first international ton against Bangladesh in the 1st ODI(110) where he was involved in a record stand with Sikandar Raza to bail the team out of trouble.

Zimbabwe chased down a target of 304 with ease and ended a 19-match losing streak in ODIs against Bangladesh. He scored only 4 off 20 in the 1st ODI against India while opening the batting and was the first wicket to fall being Deepak Chahar’s victim. He scored 16 off 27 balls in the 2nd ODI including 2 fours before edging to Sanju Samson off Shardul Thakur.

Zimbabwe, however, is a side that has been struggling for runs from the top order. Even during their two superb chases of 291 and 304 against Bangladesh, they got off to abysmal starts. They have had scores of 31 for 4, 31 for 4, 18 for 4, 49 for 4, 6 for 2, 42 for 4, and 47 for 2 in their last seven ODIs.

In the ongoing three-match One-Day International series against Zimbabwe, India has been on fire.

They won the first ODI by 10 wickets and the second by five wickets to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series with one match remaining.

The bowling attack of the Men in Blue has been dominant in both games, limiting the hosts to under 200 runs in both.

Kuldeep Yadav, who was playing his first ODI series since recovering from a serious hand injury, was the bowler who did not impress in both games.

Kuldeep Yadav was the only Indian bowler to go wicketless in the first game, recording figures of 0-36 in 10 overs. In the second One-Day International, he was the most expensive Indian bowler in the innings.

Kuldeep Yadav Has Not Played Regular Cricket: Mohammad Kaif

Former Indian batsman Mohammad Kaif said of Kuldeep’s mediocre bowling performances that he is unsure whether to bowl fast or slow.

“He is slightly confused if he should bowl fast or slow. He has adopted a new thing that he wants to bowl fast, he wants to keep the speed around 90 kph. There at times the balls are pitching short, so Williams played the pull shots and when he flighted the ball, he was driven,” he said in a discussion with Sony Sports.

“There were quite a few boundaries that went off his bowling. He proved slightly expensive if we see today. He conceded the most runs if we talk about the bowlers, he gave 49 runs in his eight overs. He had a big wicket to his name, he dismissed Sikandar Raza, who is a good player,” he added.

“He missed a caught-and-bowled opportunity, he will be slightly disappointed with that. However, the rhythm is being seen.

“He bowled well in West Indies. He will get better when he plays more matches. He has not got regular matches,” further added Kaif.

RP Singh has stated that Ishan Kishan must make the most of the limited opportunities he has at the international level.

Kishan scored six runs off 13 deliveries in the second ODI against Zimbabwe on Saturday, August 20 at the Harare Sports Club in Harare.

Team India was reduced to 83/3 after his dismissal, but Sanju Samson’s unbeaten 43-run knock helped them reach the 162-run target with five wickets to spare.

Ishan Kishan Needs To Put Up A Match Winning Performance: RP Singh

RP Singh was asked if it was a missed opportunity for Kishan during a discussion on Sony Sports. He responded:

“There is a difference between him (Kishan) and KL Rahul. Ishan Kishan is a young player. He needs to know how to make the best use of his chances, this was also a chance for him. KL Rahul is an established player and he has excellent technique.

“He is coming on the back of plenty of performances and is the captain of the Indian team. It’s not that he (Kishan) will not get more chances, he will definitely get them, but if your performances are not good, you will slowly-slowly start going out.”

“You will have to put up a big score, that too a match-winning knock. There was a chance today, you were not chasing that big a score. You just had to stitch together a partnership and give some stability, but you couldn’t do that. When he came to bat, he was not looking in touch.

“It seemed from the body language that he was struggling slightly. It was actually a drivable ball but he couldn’t reach close to it at all, that is why he got the inside edge. He is a sound batter but game awareness is also important,” Singh further added.

Kishan will hope to make it count in the 3rd ODI.

Many anticipated India to bat first in the first ODI, especially after winning the toss for the second time in the series, to give stand-in skipper KL Rahul some game time in the middle. However, as no other bowlers save the openers had the opportunity to bat, it did not work out that way.

Along with his stand-in Shikhar Dhawan, Rahul did open the batting order at the top, but Victor Nyauchi knocked him down early.

‘I was expecting India to bat first’: Saba Karim

Speaking on Sony Sports, Saba Karim advised India to move out of their comfort zone and get ready for batting first, citing the Men in Blue’s cautious attitude against Pakistan and New Zealand in the T20 World Cup as one of the big reasons for their elimination from the competition.

“After winning the toss, I had expected India to bat first, but that did not happen. They again chose the logical course of action, which made it simple for them because you are in Zimbabwe.

“There must be some lessons you can learn from this. The ideal course of action would have been to put oneself in a challenging situation and attempt to escape from it.”

“We were eliminated from the T20 World Cup due to our cautious approach when batting first, and this may occur before the World Cup. Therefore, it is always a good idea to plan and try to step beyond of your comfort zone,” said Saba Karim.

With one game left before the Asia Cup, Rahul will attempt to win the toss and choose to bat first to get some playing time.

To bowl out the hosts with just 161 runs on the board, the KL Rahul-led team put on another impressive bowling performance. The bowler who stole the show with his three-wicket haul was Shardul Thakur, who replaced Deepak Chahar in the playing XI. Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Deepak Hooda, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav all contributed one wicket each along with the other Indian bowlers.

Rahul’s choice to go up to the third spot did not work out because it was his first time playing in the middle position since the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) finished. He only scored one run.

KL Rahul-led India Break Pakistan’s Massive World Record:

India’s victory in Harare, their 11th straight victory, beat Pakistan’s previous global record. The Men in Blue became the first group to win 11 straight ODIs at the same venue.

The victory streak in Harare for the Men in Blue had started in 2013 and kept on over time. At the same venue, they also defeated Zimbabwe 3-0 in 2003, also with MS Dhoni serving as captain.

At the Sharjah Cricket Ground in 1990, Pakistan enjoyed a winning streak of ten straight ODI matches. West Indies, who won nine consecutive games at Brisbane’s Gabba from 1992 to 2001, is third on the list.

When the two teams square off on Monday, August 22, for the final game of the series, India will attempt to increase its winning streak to 12.

India National Cricket Team fast-bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur has said that a bowler needs to be smart enough to adjust and bowl according to any given situation in a match.

Shardul Thakur came in as a replacement for pacer Deepak Chahar in the second ODI against Zimbabwe National Cricket Team and delivered a brilliant performance. Notably, Chahar’s exclusion came as a surprise to many because he had won the Player of the Match award in the first ODI for his three-wicket haul.

Meanwhile, Shardul Thakur provided Team India with early breakthroughs by picking the wickets of Innocent Kaia and Regis Chakabva. Also, he dismissed Luke Jongwe to end up with figures of 3-38 in his 7-over quota.

Speaking after the match, Thakur said that a bowler, who bowls with the old ball, needs to look at how the opening bowlers had bowled and then bowl accordingly.

“You have to look at what the opening bowlers have bowled, whether it’s swinging or seaming around. And according to the batsmen, you have to be smart as a bowler to adjust accordingly. Early on, it was a little on the slower side. Later on, there was a bit more so we could bowl more bouncers,” Thakur said in a post-match interaction

The 30-year-old further said that he has got good skillsets and he just needs to keep polishing those in the nets to grow as a bowler.

“What I can improve on is guess where the batsman is going to attack me and bowl accordingly. I think I have good skillsets so I just need to keep polishing those in the nets. Sometimes you just need to hit the deck hard and keep it tight,” he added.

India National Cricket Team won the second ODI game by 5 wickets to clinch the series at the Harare Sports Club in Harare on Saturday, August 20. This was stand-in skipper KL Rahul’s first series victory as the captain of the India National Cricket Team and the last ODI will be played on Monday, August 22 in Harare.

I Have Worked On My Outswingers: Mohammed Siraj

Mohammed Siraj was congratulated on the Indian team’s victory and asked about the atmosphere within the team during a post-match interview on Sony Sports. He responded:

“First of all, thank you so much, we have won the series. The atmosphere is extremely good. KL Bhai (Rahul) gives a lot of freedom to the bowlers, so the atmosphere is very good. I am enjoying my bowling a lot because I had the outswing from earlier but I was not too confident about it. Now I have worked more on the seam and I have got the confidence as well, and you must have been seeing that it is releasing nicely from my hand. I was bowling with that rhythm only.”

“I need to work even more on that. The way the ball was moving from the pitch, I was thinking that I can try something else. But when I was at the top of my run-up, I was thinking that I need to keep a simple plan and not try anything else. I would have felt good even if I had not got a wicket because of the way I was bowling”, he further added.
