Shreyas Iyer marked his comeback in a spectacular style in the second ODI match of the ongoing IND Vs AUS ODI series. Coming to bat at number three, Iyer scored a brilliant 105 off just 90 deliveries on a batting-friendly pitch of Indore’s Holkar Stadium. Iyer’s innings included 11 fours and three sixes.

Shreyas Iyer batting alongside Shubman Gill added 200 runs for the second wicket. Gill also scored a century contributing 104 runs to the team’s mammoth total of 399. This inning from Shreyas is truly special considering that he made his comeback after being out of the game for six months.

Shreyas Iyer’s journey back to the pitch was filled with hardships, having undergone a successful back surgery in London and spending half of the year being out of action. He made his comeback in the Indian Team for the Asia Cup but had to eventually rest for the Super 4 clash against Pakistan after suffering back spasms. He subsequently missed the rest of the tournament given that KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan were in full flow.

Shreyas Iyer’s Road To Recovery

Shreyas Iyer was awarded the Player of the Match for his 105-run knock against Australia. In the post-match press conference, Shreyas said that his recovery was full of challenges and it was like a roller-coaster ride. He said that he often felt lonely at times and he thanked his family, physios, trainers, and most importantly himself for keeping his spirits high and believing in his abilities.

“Yeah, it was definitely a rollercoaster ride. I would like to thank myself, to be honest. For believing, at that point in time, on my abilities and also my mindset. I was feeling a bit lonely at that point of time, but thanks to my physios, my trainers and my family, to back me at that point of time, and I’m grateful to have them around. These are all these people being around me and lifting my spirits high. That motivated me to stay positive and optimistic at the same time. So I’m thankful, and I’m grateful,” said Iyer.

Shreyas Iyer has been included in India’s fifteen-member squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The player has shown a lot of character and has raised everyone’s expectations after his performance against the Aussies. Hopefully, he will get his share of opportunities in the World Cup to prove his worth.
