Shreyas Iyer played a terrific knock against Australia in the second ODI to mark his comeback. He scored 105 runs off 90 deliveries hitting 11 fours and three sixes in the process. Iyer was awarded the Player of the Match for his performance and he talked through his journey of recovery to his flexibility in batting.

The past six months haven’t been easy for Shreyas as he was battling a back injury. He initially came back for the Asia Cup 2023 but due to his back spasms, he couldn’t participate in the India-Pakistan Super 4 clash. He was subsequently rested for the rest of the tournament but now in India vs Australia Series, he grabbed the opportunity with both hands and is looking better than ever.

“It was a rollercoaster right, feeling fantastic. My teammates, friends, and family were there for my support. I was seeing the matches on TV, I wanted to be out there and participate in the matches,” Iyer was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation ceremony.

“Grateful to be believing in myself. The pain and niggles kept on coming, but I knew what I was aiming for. Glad that I was able to execute my plans perfectly today. Basically, when I went in to bat, I didn’t want to complicate things. I wanted to get my eyes set, that’s how I give confidence to myself,” he stated.

Shreyas Iyer Feels Virat Is The Best At Number Three

Shreyas Iyer batted at number three during the second ODI between India and Australia. With Virat coming back to the squad for the third ODI, chances are that he will take the number three spot and Iyer will have to bat deep down. Shreyas Iyer said that Virat Kohli is “one of the greats” and there is no chance that he will take the spot away from him.

“I am flexible, ready to bat in any position, whatever my team needs to do. Virat is one of the greats, no chance of stealing that spot from him. Need to keep scoring,” Iyer added. However, there is a probability that Shreyas Iyer might take the number three spot in the future as he has performed well in the said position.

For now, Shreyas backs his flexibility and feels that he can bat wherever the team needs him to bat. Hopefully, he will carry forward this form in the World Cup and will prove to be an important asset for the team.
