After smacking a century against Australia in the 2nd ODI in Indore, Shreyas Iyer said that he is flexible to bat at any position for Team India. In the absence of Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer arrived to bat at the no.3 position in IND vs AUS 2nd ODI.

Shreyas Iyer utilized the opportunity effectively, smacking a century to win the Player of the Match award. Notably, it was Iyer’s first magnificent knock against making a comeback to the national team.

I Am Flexible To Bat At Any Position: Shreyas Iyer

Speaking to Jio Cinema after the match, Shreyas Iyer reckoned that he is flexible to bat at any position for the team. Iyer usually takes the no.4 batting slot after Virat Kohli.

“Management has told me that I would be batting at this particular number. I am flexible at whatever number I get to bat, whatever the team requires at that point of time. If I have to go lower down the order or up the order, I’m fine with it,” the right-handed batsman said.

Notably, there is doubt about who will take the No. 4 batting position for India in ICC World Cup 2023. Other than Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav is another potential batsman for the position. Speaking about the same, Iyer said that there will always be competition and he will leave no stone unturned to embrace the opportunity.

“There is competition and that’s the best part of about being in the team. When you represent India, you know there would be challenges. As a professional, I can’t be complaining about that. And all I can say is that I would embrace the opportunity that the future and see to it that I leave no stone unturned,” Iyer further added.

During his knock, Iyer scored 11 fours and 3 sixes to score 105 runs off 90 deliveries. He also etched a 200-run partnership with Shubman Gill for the 2nd wicket.

India Crush Australia In 2nd ODI

Meanwhile, India crushed Australia by 99 runs by the DLS method in the 2nd ODI. Other than Iyer, Shubman Gill (104) also slammed a century. Suryakumar Yadav hit a quickfire knock of 77 runs off 37 balls.

Batting first India piled up a gigantic total of 399-5. Later, the home team bundled out the visitors for 217, winning the match by 99 runs. Australia had a DLS revised target of 317 in 33 overs.

India has gained an unassailable 2-0 lead in IND vs AUS ODI series. The 3rd ODI is scheduled to be played on Wednesday, September 27. The venue of the encounter is Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.
