David Warner is known for his flamboyant style of batting and his performance in the second ODI was no different when the opener switched his hands to play Ravichandran Ashwin right after completing his half-century. David Warner was seen taking his stance as a right-handed batsman during the 13th over of the match and as soon as he switched hands he hit Ashwin for a four playing a sweep shot as a right-handed batsman.
However, right in his next over Ashwin got the better of Warner when he tried to play the switch hit and the ball struck his pads in front of the stumps and the umpire raised his finger. It was unfortunate because later it was revealed by the ultra-edge that there was an inside edge from Warner’s bat but he didn’t review the decision and subsequently returned to the dressing room.
In the post-match press conference, Sean Abbott revealed the reason for Warner’s quirky strategy against Ravichandran Ashwin. David Warner turning into a right-handed batsman was a testament to Ashwin’s skill and the reason Warner managed to pull it off was because he also plays golf right-handed.

“Well, I think that’s a testament to Ashwin’s skills, to be honest, because if Davey’s just going to sit there and bat left-handed Ashwin is not going to miss his length too often. And with the ball spinning so much, he’s got the one that goes the other way, the straighter one and all the variations that go along with that.”
“Davey just thought he had to change it up. He plays golf right-handed. He’s played we see how dynamic he is batting, doing his switch-hitting and stuff. So he weighed up those options. I think they actually might have spoken about it during the Test Match here (in Indore). He’s done it before. He practices it in the nets. I was like ‘Oh, this is different’. Davey is Davey, so we just let him crack on.” said Abbot in the post-match press conference.
Apart from David Warner, only Sean Abbott was able to cross the 50-run mark in the Australian side. Abbot scored 54 runs off 36 deliveries which included four boundaries and five maximums. Eventually, he got out of Jadeja’s delivery and India won the match comfortably by 99 runs.
