Former Pakistan cricketer Saeed Anwar highlighted a flaw in the Indian cricket team after their series win over Australia. He admitted that India will be the favorites to win the ICC World Cup 2023 but they need to address a few issues going into the tournament.

India completed a magnificent 99-run win over Australia in the second game of the three-match series in Indore. The Men in Blue batted and bowled exceptionally well and completed a series win in the second game itself. They won the first game by 5 wickets in Indore.

In the second game, India ticked all the boxes as they piled up massive 399 runs on the board with Shubman Gill, and Shreyas Iyer registering centuries whereas KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav smashed vital half-centuries that powered the team to a gigantic total.

With the ball, India were quite sensational upfront at the top and at the middle, leaving Australia tottering at 140/8. But after that, Sean Abbott (54) and Josh Hazlewood (23) wagged and made bowlers look clueless. They took the game close but somehow bowlers managed to pick the wickets.

Saeed Anwar believes that India need to address the issue with opposition tailenders. He pointed out Sean Abbott’s innings and added that death bowling needs to be fixed if they want to win the World Cup. Taking to his X account, he explained:

“But that inning of S. Abbott was gorgeous & terrible for India. In addition, I can sum up by saying, that India is the favorite to win the WC, but those small boundaries & death bowling will be the cause to prevent them.”

It feels good – Shubman Gill after his century and India’s win

Shubman Gill was the chief architect behind India’s win in the second game against Australia. He played a staggering innings and smashed 104 runs that set the tone for the team and helped them post 399 runs on the board.

Shubman Gill talked about his knock in Indore. He said that he’s delighted with the way he batted and from the team’s perspective as well, he’s satisfied. He also picked up his favorite shot from the game. Speaking to broadcasters after the game, he explained:

“It feels good. Satisfied as a team, we have the momentum at the right time. It depends on the situation, there’s definitely some confidence. I can cover up later, and that confidence is because I am scoring at the moment.

“With the way KL and Surya played, they kept the momentum going. A taget of 400 was going to be difficult on any surface, and the bowlers came out and did their job. I think the six against Green down the ground, it was really special for me.”

India have already sealed the series 2-0. The dead rubber third ODI between the teams will be played on Wednesday (27th September).
