Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill both scored a century in the second ODI of the ongoing IND Vs AUS ODI series. The duo put together a 200-run stand for the second wicket and wreaked havoc on the Australian bowlers. While Shreyas Iyer scored 105 runs off 90 deliveries, Shubman Gill took 97 deliveries to reach his 104. However, it looked like both Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill decelerated their innings to reach their respective centuries.

India reached a mammoth total of 399 against Australia in the second ODI and credit goes to the Indian batters especially Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill who added 200 runs for the second wicket and then of course KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav for maintaining a good run rate in the death overs.  However, the crossing of the 400 run mark was looking quite evident but somehow India couldn’t reach the milestone.

Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel that India could’ve crossed the 425 run mark if Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill hadn’t slowed down between the 20th and 30th over of the Indian innings. Apparently, only 52 runs were scored during these overs without losing a wicket.

Aakash Chopra’s advice to Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill

“In this match, it’s okay. Shreyas Iyer is coming back from injury and wants to score runs. When you look back, you can say that India won by 99 runs. But the effort should be to maximize the balls as much as possible. Instead of 52, if we had scored 70-75 runs in the 20-30 over period, India’s score would have been 425,” Chopra opined.

Praising Shubman Gill, Aakash Chopra commented, “Shubman Gill likes this ground a lot as well. In the last match he played here, he had scored a hundred. He also features in the top two partnerships here – the first with Rohit and the second now with Shreyas Iyer. This guy knows the white ball template and I have no doubt he is the future world superstar in the batting department.”

Shubman Gill scored his sixth ODI hundred in the match. He is carrying on his tremendous form in this format of the game. Earlier this year, he also scored a double-century in an ODI against New Zealand. The elegant batter has played some spell-bounding knocks in recent months, particularly in limited-overs cricket. He loves the white ball and always looks forward to scoring runs in every match.
