Veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was not included in the Rohit Sharma-led team’s playing XI for the third ODI against Australia. Ravichandran Ashwin has been rested to accommodate Washington Sundar in the lineup for the last game in the series.
Ravichandran Ashwin was recalled to the team for the three-match ODI series after Axar Patel was ruled out of the series due to injury. The right-arm spinner made an impact with the ball in the first two ODI matches, despite not playing ODI cricket for a long time.
The 36-year-old was economical in the series opener in Mohali, picking up one wicket for 47 runs in his 10-over quota. He troubled Australia’s batters with his bowling variations in the second ODI in Indore, bagging three wickets for 41 runs in the high-scoring encounter.
Ravichandran Ashwin Is Missing – Rohit Sharma
The Men in Blue made a few changes to their starting XI for the final encounter before the World Cup. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Kuldeep Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah returned to the team for the final ODI of the series. Mohammed Shami and Ravichandran Ashwin were rested.
During the toss, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma confirmed the absence of Ravichandran Ashwin for the last match in the series. He mentioned that Washinton Sundar has been included as a spin bowling all-rounder in the line-up.
“Myself, Virat, and Kuldeep are all back. From the last game, Ashwin is also missing, Washington is in. Ishan is not well, he’s got viral fever so he misses out,” Rohit said.

Australian skipper Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to bat first at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on Wednesday, September 27. The visiting team made five changes to their lineup, including senior players Mitchell Starc and Glenn Maxwell.
