Shubman Gill has continued his upward surge in the ICC Rankings for ODI batters thanks to his consistent displays in the 50-over format in recent times.

In the latest ICC Rankings released by the ICC on Wednesday (September 27), Shubman Gill has consolidated his position at the second spot and is now in touching distance of number one ranked batsman Babar Azam. The right-handed batsman has been in stunning form in recent weeks.

He was the highest run-scorer in the Asia Cup 2023 where he scored 302 runs at an average of more than 75. In the ongoing series against Australia too, he is the leading run-scorer. Shubman Gill scored 74 runs in the first ODI and 104 runs in the second ODI before being rested for the third ODI.

And the impressive performances have now helped him reach a new career-high rating on the updated list for ODI batters, The India star now has a total of 847 rating points and is just 10 rating points behind Babar. Neither Gill nor Babar will be playing any ODI before the upcoming World Cup and one can expect a thrilling fight for the top ODI rank.

ICC Rankings for ODI batters and bowlers:

South Africa’s Rassie van der Dussen is third in the ICC Rankings for ODI batters with 743 rating points and is well behind Shubman Gill. At number four is Ireland’s Harry Tector with 729 rating points. Virat Kohli is the only other Indian batter in the top ten as he occupies the 9th spot.

Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul have also moved up in the latest ICC Rankings after doing well against Australia. While Iyer has moved up eight places to the 30th spot, Rahul has moved to the 33rd spot after jumping six spots. Iyer scored a fine century in the second ODI while Rahul scored fifties in the first two ODIs.

Among bowlers, Mohammed Siraj continues to sit at the top. He holds a slim 11-point lead over Australia’s Josh Hazlewood. Kuldeep Yadav is the only other Indian bowler in the top ten of ICC Rankings.
