The last game of the series between India and Australia is currently taking place at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. The hosts surprised many in their chase as they sent Washington Sundar to open the innings alongside captain Rohit Sharma.
Australia posted a mammoth total of 352 runs on the board and it was expected that Virat Kohli would partner Rohit Sharma at the top. However, team management allowed Washington Sundar to take center stage. The move worked to some extent as he played some good strokes at the top.
However, one six that Washington Sundar hit recalled the memories of Indian fans. The all-rounder recreated that hook shot that he hit during India’s famous Test win in Gabba two years back. The southpaw smashed Australia captain Pat Cummins for the gigantic six.
Pat Cummins bowled a short delivery in the middle. It seemed that Washington Sundar was late on the shot. However, he quickly pulled out a hook shot that went miles ahead.
Washington Sundar timed the ball perfectly throughout his short innings on the crease. He unfortunately got for just 17 runs as he perished to Glenn Maxwell in the 11th over the game. The all-rounder tried to play the inside-out shot and got caught in the covers.
Washington Sundar added 74 runs partnership with captain Rohit Sharma, who has looked in a completely different mood. The Indian captain came out all guns blazing as he smashed his half-century in just 31 balls.
Washington Sundar bowls an economical spell with the ball
Washington Sundar was included in the team for the last ODI against Australia. He replaced Ravichandran Ashwin in the team. While all the other Indian bowlers went for runs, the all-rounder was quite economical. Although he didn’t pick the wicket but was sensational. He conceded 48 runs in 10 overs.
Australia won the toss and elected to bat first. They had a staggering start with the bat as David Warner (56) and Mitchell Marsh (96) were off the flyer as they added 78 runs for the opening partnership. After that, Steve Smith chipped in too.
The batter scored 74 runs before Marnus Labuschagne stepped up too. He smashed 72 runs that powered Australia to a gigantic total of 352 runs. For India, Jasprit Bumrah picked up three wickets but went for 81 runs. Whereas Kuldeep Yadav picked two wickets as well.
