  • VVS Laxman is set to take charge of India National Cricket Team for Australia T20Is.

  • Rahul Dravid-led coaching staff is likely to be rested for Australia series post World Cup.

The National Cricket Academy (NCA) head VVS Laxman is likely to be the head coach of the India National Cricket Team after the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 for the Australia T20I series, according to a recent PTI report.

The Rohit Sharma-led side are currently participating in the World Cup 2023 at home and have delivered outstanding performances. The next challenge of the Men In Blue is a 5-match T20I series against Australia at home.

For the Australia series, head coach Rahul Dravid is likely to be rested alongside his coaching staff as well as the players taking part in the marquee tournament. In Dravid’s absence, Laxman is likely to take charge of the team.

“VVS Laxman has always been in charge when Rahul has taken a break and same thing is likely to continue for the series just after the World Cup,” a BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity.

VVS Laxman Is The Top Candidate To Succeed Rahul Dravid As India Coach – Reports

The contract of Rahul Dravid with BCCI is set to expire post-World Cup and there is no confirmation about whether the India legend will continue as head coach. The BCCI could request him to continue as coach, but the final decision will rest on Rahul Dravid.

Reportedly, there is a possibility that Dravid could return to the Indian Premier League (IPL) in a coaching capacity, having already worked with teams like Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals in the cash-rich T20 league.

If Dravid decides not to continue as head coach of the India National Cricket Team and the BCCI invites fresh applications, the top candidate to take over the role is the NCA head VVS Laxman as he knows the system and pathways inside out.

Coming back to India vs Australia T20I series, the players who were part of the West Indies T20Is, Ireland T20Is, and Asian Games are likely to be seen in action against the Aussies as the seniors will be given much-needed rest ahead of the high-profile series against South Africa.

The 5-match T20I series between India and Australia will begin on November 23 in Visakhapatnam and the final T20I will be played on December 3 in Hyderabad.
