In-form Riyan Parag is likely to be rewarded with his maiden India call-up for his stunning display in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2023. The middle-order batsman has been one of the best performers in domestic cricket in the last few months.

Having faced severe criticism for his poor performances in the IPL earlier this year, Riyan Parag has managed to turn things around by scoring heavily in the domestic circuit. Right after the IPL ended, he starred with both bat and ball in the Deodhar Trophy. The Assam youngster was the highest run-getter and joint third-highest wicket-taker. He was also adjudged the Player of the Tournament as he scored 354 runs in addition to picking up 11 wickets.

Riyan Parag continued his brilliant form in SMAT too where he played a key role in Assam’s dream run to the final. The Rajasthan Royals star smashed a world record seven half-centuries in a row as he finished his campaign with an impressive 510 runs. He also displayed his all-round skills by picking up 11 wickets. He is currently the highest run-scorer in the tournament and is also the only one to reach the 500-run mark.

Riyan Parag to get India call-up:

According to a report in the Times of India, Riyan Parag is likely to find a place in Team India’s squad for the upcoming T20I series against Australia. The series will take place right after the conclusion of the World Cup and most of the big names are likely to be respected. The series will get underway on November 23, four days after the World Cup final.

“Parag has been performing consistently in domestic cricket this season. It’s hard to ignore his all-round performances. To add to his worth, he’s also an excellent fielder,” a source told the news outlet.

Talking about his T20 career, he has played 98 matches and has scored 2043 runs at an average of 30 and a strike rate of over 140. He has hit 18 half-centuries in the shortest format of the game. He has also picked up 41 wickets in T20s.
