A frustrated Jasprit Bumrah lost his cool as things did not go his or India’s way against Australia in the final of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

Not much went India’s way in the ongoing final where Australia were just 27 runs away from clinching a win at the time of writing this report. It all began with the toss as Rohit Sharma lost it and India were asked to bat first. The Men in Blue lost the wicket of Shubman Gill cheaply before Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer departed in quick succession to leave the team reeling at 81 for 3.

Virat Kohli and KL Rahul scored fifties but it was not enough for the team to post a big total. India also failed to finish strongly as the likes of Ravindra Jadeja (9 off 22 balls) and Suryakumar Yadav (18 off 28 balls) could not get going. For Australia, Mitchell Starc picked up 3 wickets while Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins claimed two wickets apiece.

Jasprit Bumrah loses his cool:

India needed a good start with the ball to claw their way back into the game and the pacers did not disappoint. Mohammed Shami gave the hosts the early breakthrough by dismissing the dangerous David Warner in the second over. Jasprit Bumrah then dismissed Mitchell Marsh and Steve Smith in quick succession to leave Australia 3 down for just 47.

However, Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne did not let India capitalize on the early breakthroughs as they quickly steadied the ship. The duo mixed caution with aggression to keep their team in the hunt. Rohit Sharma tried all he could but did not get the desired result. He shuffled his bowlers, and changed the field placements but to no avail.

Rohit reintroduced Jasprit Bumrah and the latter bowled his heart out but just could not break the partnership. And the right-arm pacer, who rarely loses his cool on the field, failed to control his emotions as things did not go his way. After bowling his seventh over, the India pace spearhead snatched his handkerchief angrily from the umpire before knocking the bail off in frustration. He, however, quickly turned back to pick the bail up and place it on the stumps.
