During the course of the competition, he also broke Tendulkar’s record of most ODI tons by notching up his 50th century. The brilliant performance in the World Cup has helped him make good ground in the latest ICC Rankings, released by the governing body on Wednesday (November 22).

Virat Kohli moves up in ICC Rankings:

Virat Kohli has jumped one place to third on the latest ICC rankings and is within touching distance of reclaiming the top spot. He is currently behind second-placed Babar Azam and first-placed Shubman Gill. The former India captain needs just 35 rating points to equal Gill’s tally. Kohli famously held the No.1 ranking for a total of 1258 consecutive days between 2017 and 2021,

Gill is at the top with 826 rating points followed by Babar who has 824 rating points. Kohli, on the other hand, has 791 rating points. India captain Rohit Sharma has also moved up one spot to claim the fourth spot in the ICC Rankings after scoring 597 runs in the World Cup.

South Africa opener Quinton de Kock, who retired from ODIs after the World Cup, has dropped two spots to fifth in the ICC Rankings while New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell has moved up five spots to sixth after scoring 552 runs in the tournament.

Australia’s hero in the final Travis Head has made a massive jump of 28 spots to claim the 15th spot. The left-handed batsman scored a stunning century in the final to help Australia beat India by six wickets and clinch a record-extending sixth World Cup title.

Among bowlers, South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj remains on top of the ICC Ranking followed by Josh Hazlewood, Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, and Adam Zampa in the top five. Among allrounders, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan is leading the list.

Pathan’s gesture did not go down well with many in Pakistan including Kamran Akmal. The former Pakistan star had criticized the former India all-rounder for dancing on live TV.

“I was surprised at the Irfan Pathan dance,” Kamran Akmal told Ary News. “I remember India beating Pakistan in Australia; even then, this kind of happiness wasn’t seen. But there seems to be greater joy in Afghanistan defeating Pakistan. It was sad to see—not just for me but for the nation. “I’m not saying our World Cup is over. We could still qualify with two losses, but Sri Lanka are going to be tough in those conditions. We haven’t played Pakistan yet,” Clarke told Sky Sports Radio at the time.

He further clarified that the India bowlers got the most movement and swing due to their own skill and hard work and not because of a particular ball. He further said that if the bowler executes the correct ball, he will get the right results.

“A lot of bowlers are there, but how is this man’s ball swinging that much? Hard work is there, determination is there, there is hard work and there is execution. If you execute in the right way, you will get results. I am not saying the others are not doing it right, but I am trying to execute my skills, set a target and achieve it.”

“I am praying that 10 other bowlers perform this way. I am never going to be jealous. If you learn to enjoy the success of other players, I think you have the chances ofbeboming a better player. The almighty is going to give whatever he wants to,” he added.

Shami ended the World Cup with 24 wickets, Jasprit Bumrah with 20 wickets, and Ravindra Jadeja finished with 16 wickets. Kuldeep Yadav also took 15 wickets.

In his column for Sportstar, cricketer-turned-commentator Sunil Gavaskar questioned Rohit Sharma’s dismissal shot. He feels that Sharma was being too greedy and he should have restricted himself from risky shots as the team had already lost Shubman Gill cheaply.

“Travis Head’s superlative turning and running back catch dashed India’s hopes of getting a 300-plus score. That catch dismissed Rohit Sharma, who once again stormed his way to another quickfire 40-plus. That wicket fell in the final over of the first powerplay where there are only two fielders allowed outside the 30-metre circle”. 

“He had already hit a six and a four in the over and was obviously trying to capitalise on the few deliveries left before the powerplay finished. Was he being too greedy? Could he not have curbed himself since Shubman Gill had already been dismissed?”, Gavaskar wrote.

After the stunning outing in the World Cup, Mohammed Shami has revealed that he was once advised by the doctors to quit playing cricket. It happened just before the 2015 World Cup when he was suffering from a knee issue. There was a swelling in his knee and the doctors had advised him to give up cricket to save his body.

The star bowler also revealed even though he had the option of going for the surgery before the tournament, he opted against it in order to play for the team. Mohammed Shami was forced to go to the hospital after every match to take an injection.

“I had swelling in my knee before the 2015 tournament. Someone else could have said no but I have the ability to bear pain and I was told two options—either directly go for surgery or play the tournament and then go for the surgery. While the team would return to the hotel after every match, I would go to the hospital to take the injection. When you play for the country, you forget everything,” Mohammed Shami said in an interaction with PUMA.

“I was unconscious for two hours. When I woke up, I asked the doctor when I could start playing. He replied, ‘It will be a big achievement if you walk without a limp, forget playing. It all depends on how you go about your rehab,” added the pacer who is India’s all-time leading wicket-taker in the World Cup.

Veteran Australian opener David Warner revealed the reason behind skipper Pat Cummins’ decision to bowl first in the final of the World Cup 2023. David Warner disclosed that the team management initially considered batting first during the summit clash in Ahmedabad.

Allan Border also revealed he felt the Aussies made a mistake after seeing Rohit Sharma smashing runs during the powerplay overs.

Former India National Cricket Team player Suresh Raina has said that the captaincy of Pat Cummins swung the game in Australia’s favor in the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Australia beat India by 6 wickets in the final of the World Cup 2023. The Aussies comprehensively outplayed India in all three departments and ended their 10-match winning streak in the marquee tournament.

Talking about the match, Suresh Raina said that Australia were the better team in the World Cup final and they deserved to win. He added that Pat Cummins did a brilliant captaincy in the match and was one of the reasons for his team’s win.

“Australia played better than India, you can’t complain about that. It was just one bad day at the office,” said Raina, as quoted by TOI.

“What swung the game in Australia’s favour was Pat Cummins’ captaincy. The way he brought Glenn Maxwell in to the attack to get the wicket of Rohit Sharma with a brilliant catch from Travis Head was very smart. Adam Zampa was great too, as was Cummins himself in dismissing Virat Kohli,” said Raina while talking to ICC.

Suresh Raina also lauded Australia’s fielding in the World Cup final, giving a special mention to Travis Head’s spectacular catch to dismiss Rohit Sharma, who was batting extremely well. He elaborated:

“Another big factor was Australia’s fielding, I think they saved 30 to 40 runs. From ball one, they were saving a lot of singles and boundaries. There was Travis’s catch and some excellent work in the deep from David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne.

“I think Cummins showed real temperament in his captaincy. He changed his bowlers knowing he could put pressure on each India batter even though they were all in such good form. His tactics made all the difference and his planning and execution was perfect.”

“If you look at Australia’s innings, they were 47 for three, but India couldn’t put the pressure on because they were only defending 241 and then Travis Head played the best knock of the World Cup to change the direction of the game with his positive batting,” Raina added.

Suresh Raina labeled the dismissal of high-flying Rohit Sharma as the turning point of the match for India.

“It was very dry and they couldn’t keep pressure on with the bat because Australia bowled a lot of short balls and deliveries into the wicket which meant India couldn’t rotate the strike. Rohit’s wicket was a turning point and there were not enough runs on the board, especially when you’re used to making totals of up to 400,” said Raina.

Suresh Raina further lauded Rohit Sharma for his fantastic captaincy throughout the World Cup, saying that his planning, decision-making, approach, and execution were absolutely top-notch.

“I thought Rohit Sharma’s captaincy was fantastic too. He looked very solid in his planning, decision making, approach and execution. He looked like a proper leader.

Like MS Dhoni before him, he brought a team together and they played excellently. I don’t know if Rohit will play in the next 50-over World Cup, he might play in the T20 World Cup, but he really wanted to win the World Cup for the whole country. But God planned something else,” said Raina.

Former India National Cricket Team opening batsman Gautam Gambhir has highlighted one of the key reasons behind the failure of the Men In Blue in the ICC tournaments.

Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, India failed to capture the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 title at home. They looked firm favorites to clinch the trophy and headed into the final with a 10-match winning streak. Speaking to Sportskeeda, Gambhir talked about India’s batting approach and he said that India weren’t courageous enough, which is why they weren’t able to put up a big score on the board. He added that one of the main reasons behind India’s failures in ICC events is not being able to play an attacking brand of cricket. He elaborated:

“I have always maintained this – the most courageous team will go on to win the World Cup. I can understand that for some time you want to build a partnership. But 11-40 overs is a very long period of time. India should have accelerated and taken a risk at that stage.

“I actually would have liked India going really aggressive with the top six, seven batters. Even if they got all out for 150, I would have been fine. But you scored 240 and thought you can fight. In World Cup finals, you don’t fight – it has to be either this way or that way.

“That is the approach I would have taken. Either we go 150 all out or 300. That is what India has lacked and this is why India has not gone on to win ICC tournaments,” Gambhir said.

Gautam Gambhir opined that the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma should have given a clear message to his batters to play aggressively even after his dismissal with Virat Kohli being the only anchor in the line-up. He said:

“Probably Rohit should have sent that message before the start of the game that even if I get out, we are going aggressive. Virat’s role is to anchor the innings from one end but rest all the other batters go hard. If you are able to take five singles in an over, that is also called positive cricket. But, if you are playing 4-5 dot balls in an over, the game is going nowhere.”

Gautam Gambhir further said that India weren’t brave enough in the summit clash against the Aussies and that is why they lost the match.

“If Virat was in, KL should have gone. He should have said that, I am going to take those risks. We might have got out for 150, but imagine if we were brave and had scored 310, you could have won the World Cup. India were not brave enough, courageous enough and that’s where we lost the finals,” Gautam Gambhir concluded.

Apart from this, they chose such a surface because it assisted skipper Rohit Sharma as well and he could easily take bowlers to cleaners.

Recently reports in Daily Mail suggested that ICC’s chief pitch consultant Andy Atkinson wasn’t allowed to take part in the process of pitch selection in India games and was virtually sidelined.

Marnus Labuschagne further talked about the dismissal of Virat Kohli. He said that the entire stadium went silent after that and they as a team took in a moment for it. “Standing in the middle of a giant stadium with 130,000 fans in it who all went silent at this moment. We all just stood in the team huddle and took it in for a moment.

“I couldn’t understand what Suryakumar Yadav was trying to do. He needed to play his shots when he was batting with the tailenders, but instead took singles and went at the non-striker’s end”, Salman Butt said.

“There was some reverse swing, and Australia had proven fast bowlers. They weren’t the kind of bowlers whom Mohammed Shami or Jasprit Bumrah would have been able to hit. Suryakumar Yadav should have taken more responsibility.” he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Indian dressing room to motivate the players after the heartbreaking loss in the final of the recently-concluded ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. India entered the final as the firm favorites but ended up losing the game against Australia by 6 wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Having won all of their ten games in the World Cup and dominating almost all of them, India were widely expected to beat Australia. In the dressing room, PM Modi was seen comforting skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as he patted the duo’s back. He also shook hands with other members of the team including head coach Rahul Dravid and was seen embracing Mohammed Shami.

And while PM Modi’s gesture has received praise from several quarters, former cricketer-turned-politician Kirti Azad has slammed him for the same. Taking to X, Kirti Azad stated that the PM should not have entered the dressing room and should have met the team outside.

“The dressing room is the sanctum sanctorum of any team. @ICC does not allow anybody to enter these rooms apart from the players and the support staff. PM of India should have met the team outside the dressing room in the private visitors area. I say this as a #sportsman and not #politician,” he wrote.

“Would @narendramodi allow his supporters to come and console or congratulate him in his bedroom, dressing room or the toilet?” he added.

Writing further, Kirti Azad, who was a member of India’s 1983 World Cup-winning team, called PM Modi panauti (a term used to describe a person who brings bad luck or is considered inauspicious) and questioned BCCI’s decision of not inviting the legendary Kapil Dev for the final.

With David Warner in no mood to give up on white-ball cricket as of now, Michael Hussey has backed his former teammate. While the opener would be 41-year-old when the next ODI World Cup takes place, Michael Hussey is not ruling out the possibility of seeing the left-handed batsman play.

“I wouldn’t write him off,” Hussey told foxsports.com.au.

“He’s been a champion player in all forms of the game for such a long, long, long period of time and you should never write off champion players, and that’s exactly what he is,” he added.

David Warner enjoyed a prolific campaign in the World Cup and was Australia’s leading run-scorer. In 11 games, he scored 535 runs with the help of two centuries and as many half-centuries. Haris Rauf earlier was adamant to play in the series but on the eve of the squad announcement, he made himself unavailable. The fast bowler took the decision, keeping in mind his workload and fitness. The pacer conveyed to selectors that he was fatigued and needed a break.

Shahid Afridi pointed out that had the Test series been slated to take place in Asia then he wouldn’t have picked Haris Rauf, but in Australian conditions, the pacer should’ve enjoyed and his decision is not correct at all. Speaking to Samaa TV, he explained: 

“If the Test series had been in Asia, I wouldn’t have taken Haris Rauf along. Haris Rauf is missing a big opportunity because Australian conditions are very good for the pacers. Fast bowlers enjoy playing in those conditions. He didn’t need to play all three games, had he played just one and along with training and practice sessions, he could’ve prepared well for the T20I sides against New Zealand, where conditions are different. Chief selector Wahab Riaz talked about Haris Rauf’s absence. He admitted that despite the management assuring him that they would manage his workload, the pacer didn’t agree. He also added that it’ll hurt the team. Speaking about the same, he explained: 

“We spoke to Haris Rauf about this tour 2 days ago, and he gave his consent to playing Tests for Pakistan. However, he changed his mind last night and didn’t want to be a part of this Australia Test series. He was worried about fitness issues and workload. 

“We gave him assurances that we will facilitate him and accept any potential failures. Our physio said he has no injury concerns. He is fatigued, but we could have managed him well. However, he pulled out and is unavailable for this tour. I think this could hurt Pakistan cricket.”.

Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan has named his ICC World Cup 2023 team of the tournament. He named Rohit Sharma as the captain of the team and apart from him he included 4 more Indians in his team of the tournament. 

Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma are the two openers who made it into Irfan Pathan’s team for the ICC World Cup 2023. The South Africa opener signed off from ODIs on high as he ended the tournament as the second-highest run-getter. The Indian captain was at his best at the top as he took the attack to the bowlers and scored 597 runs in the tournament. 

Virat Kohli had a breakout season as he scored 765 runs batting at No.3. He ended the tournament as the leading run-getter. Apart from him, Irfan Pathan backed Daryl Mitchell at no.4 and Rachin Ravindra at No.5. The Kiwi duo was exceptional in the tournament as they played a massive role for their team. The former scored 552 runs whereas Ravindra amassed 578 runs in the 10 games that he played in the tournament. 

At No.6. Glenn Maxwell was picked by him as the all-rounder was exceptional throughout the entire tournament. He slammed two magnificent centuries in the World Cup with his best coming against Afghanistan where he smashed 201 runs. 

Marco Jansen is the pace bowling all-rounder in Irfan Pathan’s team as he was staggering with the ball. He picked 17 wickets with the ball and was handy with the ball as well. Apart from him. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Gerald Coetzee are the pacers in his team. 

Mohammed Shami ended the tournament as the highest wicket-taker whereas Bumrah scalped 20 wickets in 11 matches. Adam Zampa is the only frontline spinner in Irfan Pathan’s team. The Australian leg-spinner picked 23 wickets to end as the second leading wicket-taker in the tournament.

Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody was impressed by Pat Cummins’ leadership in the final of the ICC World Cup 2023. He praised him for the tactical changes he made and also hailed him for setting the staggering field placements. 

Australian skipper Pat Cummins has become the talk of the town after his side thrashed India by 7 wickets in the final of the ICC World Cup 2023. He has received a lot of praise for his staggering leadership in the summit clash and that potentially was why his team emerged victorious. 

Pat Cummins made brilliant bowling changes and was spot-on with his field placements. With the way he rotated, his bowlers were something to cherish. He had done his homework perfectly and it seemed that he had plans for every Indian player.

“A brilliant batting performance, brilliant fielding performance. I think Pat Cummins probably had his best game tactically as a captain. I felt there’s a lot to like about what happened in the first half of the game from Australia’s point of view. He led from example.

“When he came into the attack, the Indian captain, opposition captain was up and running and flying and he led his nerve from a bowling perspective and he managed to sort of out some sort of squeeze on in the early parts of his spell. I felt the way he rotated his bowlers, how he brought the part-time bowling of Head and Marsh in for two overs each. I think between them, they only went for 9 runs for those four overs.”

Tom Moody was also in awe of how Pat Cummins rotated Mitchell Starc. He highlighted how the fast bowler used him when the ball was reverse-swinging. He added: 

“And the way that he rotated Starc. When the ball started to reverse, he got Starc back in there and Starc took some critical wickets. When he obviously saw that the ball was getting a bit worn and Starc is one of the modern-day greats when it comes to reverse swing of that white ball.” 

Tom Moody further pointed out how Pat Cummins assessed the pitch quickly and set up the field for his fellow fast bowlers. He explained: 

“There’s a number of things that I felt that he was very clever in the way he did it. The other aspect is that I thought the astute field placing that he had. He recognized very quickly that the pitch itself was very slow and the way he set up the leg side field for his fast bowlers and got them to bowl into the pitch with the changing of pace, I thought was again a bit of  tactical masterstroke.” 

Pat Cummins was spot on his bowling and he provided his team with crucial breakthroughs and put India under tremendous pressure. The captain removed Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli, which potentially put India on the back foot.

Opting to bowl first, Australia bowled out India for a modest total of 240 runs despite half-centuries from Virat Kohli and KL Rahul. Barring the brief period when Rohit Sharma was going great guns during his 47-run knock, Australia’s bowlers faced little difficulty in containing the Indian batters.

Left-arm pacer Mitchell Marsh picked up 3 wickets while Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood claimed two wickets apiece. In reply, Australia crossed the finishing line in 43 overs. While they made a poor start with the bat and were reeling at 47 for 3, a huge partnership between Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne helped them recover and seal the game.

India was one of the most dominating teams in the ICC World Cup 2023. They played like champions throughout the whole tournament but succumbed to pressure in the final. The Men in Blue faced a thrashing 7-wicket loss against Australia in Ahmedabad and it broke almost a billion hearts.

Almost every player played a part in the tournament and chipped in at crucial junctures. Ishan Kishan played the first two games for the team and made decent contributions. Apart from him, there were some magnificent performances but it wasn’t meant to be as they failed when it mattered most.

He hasn’t had his best World Cup, but last night, and we’ve spoken about this a lot, Australia has players who stand up in the big moments because they’ve been there before and Cummins did that not just with his leadership, but with the ball.

When he went full speed, he was hitting the wicket hard and I thought he set the tone. His captaincy brilliant, his bowling was outstanding and we were brilliant in the field as well.”

PCB Appoints Shan Masood as Test captain and Shaheen Afridi as T20I captain

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently announced the new captains for the Test and the T20I format after Babar Azam stepped down. Shan Masood was named as the leader in the longest format of the game whereas Shaheen Afridi will captain the T20I team. 

The pacer has been fantastic as a leader in the shortest format of the game. He has guided his team to two PSL titles and hopes to take Pakistan to great heights. He played a huge role for his team in the World Cup 2023 and was amongst the leading wicket-takers in the tournament.

Although Pakistan didn’t manage to reach the semi-final, Shaheen Afridi was the biggest positive for them. He picked 18 wickets in 9 games he played. He will be next seen in action during the Test series against Australia.

Vini Raman, wife of Australia allrounder Glenn Maxwell, has hit back at the trolls after receiving abusive messages from them following India’s loss in the final of the recently-concluded ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

Australia, on Sunday (November 19), stunned Team India by six wickets in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium to clinch their sixth World Cup title. Despite entering the game as underdogs, the team from Down Under totally dominated the contest against the high-flying Indian team to clinch the World Cup for a record-extending sixth time.

Bowling first after winning the toss, Australia bowled out India for a modest total of 240 runs despite half-centuries from KL Rahul and Virat Kohli. For Australia, left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3 wickets while Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood claimed two wickets apiece.

In reply, Australia chased down the target in 43 overs with six wickets in hand. They were reeling at 47 for 3 at one stage before a mammoth 192-run stand between Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne put the game to bed. Head top-scored for his side, scoring 137 runs off 120 balls with the help of 15 fours and 4 sixes. On the other hand, Labuschagne remained unbeaten on 58 off 110 balls.

Hours after the win, Vini Raman took to Instagram to hit out at trolls who abused her with derogatory messages for supporting Australia. For those who do not know, Vini Raman is an Australian-Tamil woman. Urging the trolls to stop sending her hateful messages, she wrote:

“aaaand cue all the hateful vile DMs. Stay classy…can’t believe this needs to be said BUT you can be Indian and also support the country of your birth where you have been raised and more important the team your husband + father of your child plays in.

“take a chill pill and direct that outrage towards more important world issues,” added Vini Raman.

Indian opener Shubman Gill has reacted for the first time after India’s loss to Australia in the World Cup final. India suffered a heartbreaking defeat against Australia in the finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The stage was set at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad where the Men In Blue was put into bat by Pat Cummins after he won the toss. India had a really good powerplay after skipper Rohit Sharma gave a terrific start but Shubman Gill went back to the pavilion early after scoring just four runs.

Shubman Gill did not have an auspicious tournament with the bat. The 24-year-old youngster could only manage 354 runs in nine innings at an average of 44.25. Shubman was out of the squad for the first two matches as he was suffering from dengue but returned to the playing XI in the match against Pakistan.

However, there is no denying the fact that Shubman Gill is India’s latest prodigy and this is just a start for him. Shubman is the leading run-getter in ODIs this year and has also registered a double-century against New Zealand. Australia clinched their sixth ODI World Cup title after beating India by six wickets in the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Travis Head missed the first five matches of the 2023 World Cup for Australia due to an injury. However, he returned and scored a brilliant hundred against New Zealand to mark a superb ODI World Cup debut on October 28 in Dharamsala.

Travis Head was also the highest run-scorer for Australia in the semi-final against South Africa where he scored 62 off 48 deliveries while chasing a target of 213. He was the Player of the Match in the semi-final and helped Australia to enter the finals with his courageous knock.

After winning the Player Of The Match award in the final as well, Travis Head joins an elite list of players who have won the POTM award in the semi-finals and the final of the ODI World Cup. Former Pakistan cricketer Wasim Akram made a bold claim after the final of the ICC World Cup 2023. He urged the governing body to quash off the toss in the knockouts of tournaments, saying that it shouldn’t decide the game.

Australia thumped India in the final of the ICC World Cup 2023 by 7 wickets. While it was a clinical effort from them with both bat and ball, the conditions also played a huge role. The Pat Cummins-led side won the toss and opted to field first, which worked quite well.

Batting in the day was quite difficult as the pitch was very slow and India could manage just 240 runs. However, things changed drastically as under the lights the ball came pretty well to the bat and batting became easy, of which the Australian batters took advantage and won the game by 7 wickets.

Wasim Akram said that both India and Australia worked hard to reach the final and to see a toss deciding the game annoyed him the most. He highlighted how wi different countries, conditions change with time. Replying to Sportskeeda, he explained:

“I want that during these knockout games such as quarterfinals and semifinals…. Toss shouldn’t make a difference. In Australia, this matters because the seam movement starts at night. But here in the subcontinent, the batting gets easier (in the evening) because of the dew.“

“Both teams Australia and India have worked hard to reach the final. It should be a fair chance for both sides. The game shouldn’t be decided on a toss. That’s what annoys me most of the time.”

Australia were spot on with the field in the game, which saved quite a few runs for the team. They were electric on the field and made run-making hard for India.

Wasim Akram heaped rich praise on Australia for their fielding in the game, saying that they officially saved 25 runs. He added:

“Obviously they must have planned against every batter for field placements in a particular situation. They officially stopped 25 runs, if we add these 25 runs (to the total) then it could be around 265-270, which is a lot of pressure in the final.”

“That’s why fielding is so important. I’ve been saying this for the last 20-30 years. In batting and bowling, you need talent but fielding comes through fitness and hard work.”

India and Australia will be next seen in action when they will take on each other in the T20I series, starting on 23rd November.

New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham shared screenshots of Indian fans abusing him after Rohit Sharma and the company’s World Cup final loss against the mighty Aussies on Sunday. The 33-year-old, popular for his quippy tweets, was confused and asked the trolls in a humorous way.

The Indian players and fans were very emotional after the heartbreaking defeat. However, some of the fans started swearing at the Blackcaps’ all-rounder Jimmy Neesham via Instagram DMs (direct messaging). Neesham shared screenshots of the same on his Instagram stories.

“Didn’t watch the game last night but, uhh, I guess Aus won,” he wrote in one of his stories. Jimmy Neesham was a part of the Blackcaps’ World Cup squad. He scored a gritty 58 against Australia while chasing 288 and was gone for a duck against South Africa. The Kiwi all-rounder picked two wickets in three games. New Zealand finished fourth in the round-robin stage and faced the hosts, India in the first semi-final. Centuries from Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer overpowered the Kiwis and their World Cup dream came to an end.

India finished the round-robin stage at the top of the table with nine wins on the trot. The Men In Blue were on a 10-match unbeaten streak going into the finals vs Australia. However, Travis Head and the Aussie bowlers came up with brilliant performances to defeat the Men In Blue and win their sixth World Cup title. Sachin Tendulkar was a member of the Indian team which lost the finals against Australia in the 2003 World Cup. In fact, he was the leading runscorer and Player of The Tournament in the 2003 World Cup scoring 673 runs in the tournament. Virat Kohli broke his record this year by scoring 765 runs in the 2023 edition of the World Cup.

Sachin Tendulkar acknowledged the hard work shown by the Indian team in this tournament and sympathized with the players. He congratulated Australia on winning the World Cup title for the sixth time. Australia is the only team to defeat India in the World Cup finals doing that twice in 2003 and 2023 respectively.

India will now gear up to face Australia in a five-match T20I series where it is speculated that either Suryakumar Yadav or Ruturaj Gaikwad will lead the Indian side. The Indian squad for the same will be announced soon while Australia have already announced their squad led by Matthew Wade.
