As tea was called during the World Test Championship (WTC) Final between India and Australia, disappointment filled the air among the spectators. Rohit Sharma appeared visibly upset when he saw the “OUT” signal displayed on the big screen, while Shubman Gill also wore a surprised expression.

The crowd expressed their discontent through boos, reflecting their dissatisfaction with the turn of events. However, Australia found solace in breaking the opening partnership that had given India a solid start. Both Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill exhibited positive batting and seemed untroubled by the new ball until Scott Boland generated significant bounce from a good length delivery.

At present, Australia holds the upper hand in the game, with a strong position backed by a substantial run total and the advantage of a relatively new ball. The final session promises to be gripping as we await the resumption of play.

In the seventh over of the match, Scott Boland bowled a delivery to Shubman Gill, resulting in a dismissal that sparked controversy. Gill attempted to defend the ball but ended up edging it to the gully, where Cameron Green took an exceptional catch. The fielders immediately appealed for the catch, and the umpires conferred to review the decision.

The catch was sent upstairs for a closer examination to determine if it was taken cleanly. The replay showed that Green had initially caught the ball with his left hand but due to the force of the impact, his hand touched the ground as he completed the catch. The third umpire analyzed the footage and concluded that Green had his fingers underneath the ball, leading to the final decision of “OUT” being displayed on the big screen.

Shubman Gill had to make his way back to the pavilion, falling victim to Boland once again. Boland continued his impressive bowling display by consistently hitting a good length around the off stump. Gill, while attempting to defend, found himself in an awkward position as the ball kicked up and took the edge of his bat, resulting in a brilliant low catch by Green at the gully. Gill departed after contributing 18 runs from 19 balls, including two boundaries.

The dismissal of Shubman Gill came as a blow to India, disrupting their promising start to the innings. The fans on Twitter were quick to express their discontent with the decision, highlighting their disappointment over Gill’s departure. The circumstances surrounding the catch added to the controversy, as some spectators believed the catch was not entirely clean. However, with Gill’s dismissal, Australia gained a crucial breakthrough, signaling their intent to maintain control of the match.
