Former Indian captain Virat Kohli remarked that his biggest motivation in cricket is waking up every morning feeling like he will help his team win. Virat Kohli stated that he will come to the crease every time with the expectation of winning the game for his side with his performance.

The 34-year-old is currently representing India in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia at the Oval in London. The right-handed batter scored 14 runs in India’s first innings. He remained unbeaten on 44 runs in India’s second innings at the stumps of Day 4.

In an interview with the ICC, Virat Kohli revealed how he mentally prepares himself before entering the field for batting.

“What motivates me is knowing that the opportunity I have every game that I play for India, to make my team win,” Kohli told the ICC ahead of the WTC Final.

“I don’t think in sport there is any bigger motivation than that. I wake up every morning of any game that I play believing that I’m going to be the guy who is going to make my team win,” he added.

I’ve Always Taken A Lot Of Pride In – Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli said that he wants to keep the team in a comfortable position with his batting in a tough situations.

“I’m still as excited to be the man that helps my team when I’m batting out there. I want my team to feel comfortable and they can breathe a sigh of relief that I’m out there and (knowing) I can do the job,” he further said.

“That’s something that I’ve always taken a lot of pride in and I feel very grateful, as I said, to be in that position where the team can expect that from me. I still wake up every morning believing that I can be the man for the team,” he concluded.

The Rohit Sharma-led team needed 280 runs on the final day of the match to win the match. India ended with 164 runs for the loss of three wickets at the end of Day 4. Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane are the overnight Indian batters at the crease.
