Cameron Green’s catch to dismiss Shubman Gill gave Australia a big opening in the final session of day 3 to make inroads into India’s second innings. Gill added a 41-run stand with skipper Rohit Sharma and was looking good for more till his innings was cut short by the controversial catch. Green took a screamer to dismiss Ajinkya Rahane in the first innings which was a clean catch.

Gill’s dismissal happened in the eighth over of India’s second innings. Scott Boland’s delivery which had a bit more bounce took the edge of Shubman Gill‘s bat and flew towards Green who was fielding at gully.

Green completed the catch which was then referred to the third umpire Richard Kettleborough. The replays had enough evidence that the ball touched the ground and that Green was not in complete control of the catch but he ruled the decision in favor of the fielding team.

Indian fans have expressed their displeasure at the decision on whether the Australia all-rounder was successful in getting his hands under the ball and controlling it. Green immediately started celebrating the superb catch with his teammates.

Fans and many players debated whether the batter was out or not as well as whether Green avoided hitting the ball on the grass when his hand came on the ground after catching it as soon as the ‘out’ decision was shown on the huge screen. Gill and India captain Rohit Sharma were left unconvinced by the decision as tea was taken right away.
