Alex Carey, the Australian wicketkeeper feels that his team need to stay patient as they look to defend 280 runs and take seven wickets on day five at the Oval. India, who were set a target of 444 by the Aussies, have scored 163/4 by the end of the day’s play on day 4.

India had a better start to the second innings with Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma adding 41 for the first wicket. They scored at a fair clip till Gill was ruled out controversially from a catch by Cameron Green. Gill and Rohit Sharma were both left unconvinced of the decision.

The wicket of Shubman Gill opened the floodgates for Australia as they took three quick wickets and had India struggling at 91/3. Since then Virat Kohli (44*) and Ajinkya Rahane (20*) added a 71-run stand and took India to the stumps without any more loss of wickets.

India need another 280 runs on day five and Alex Carey believes that Australia need to stay patient to work things in their favour on day 5 to win the WTC final. Carey scored 48 and 66 in the two innings of the Test match making a healthy contribution with the bat.

“They’ve got two class players in at the moment so we’ve got to stay patient,” Carey was quoted as saying to BBC.

He further said that the pitch is doing a few tricks and has quite a bit to offer to the Australian bowlers and they will have their chances.

“(The pitch) is still doing bits and pieces, but hopefully those chances will come,” he added.

Alex Carey also had his say on Cameron Green’s catch to dismiss Shubman Gill after the day’s play on day 4. He said that the third umpire made the right decision in regard to the dismissal.

“Looked good to me (on the Green catch), we were happy and the right decision was made,” Carey said after the fourth day’s play.
