The mighty Aussies won the WTC final 2021-23 against India by a massive margin of 209 runs. On Day 5, skipper Pat Cummins marshaled his troops smartly. Pat Cummins‘ decision to make Scott Boland bowl in tandem did wonders as he took the huge wicket of Virat Kohli which changed the complexion of the match.

Scott Boland displayed immense mental application on a track and troubled Virat & Rahane by bowling the off-side channel on a consistent basis. Scott Boland took 3 scalps and conceded 46 runs in his 16 overs and bowled only 2 maiden overs.

The senior batter Ajinkya Rahane was undone by Mitchell Starc as his shot selection was quite questionable given the factor he was the last recognized batter in the side. The batters should have taken some time before going berserk as there was a lack of intent from the batters.

Aussies hunted in a pack and we should not forget that Pat Cummins’ field placements were top-notch. Nathan Lyon, the spinner, took 4 wickets and he continued his purple patch against India as earlier the wicket of Rohit Sharma in the 2nd innings gave the momentum to Aussies.

India perhaps will have to go back to the drawing board and strengthen their middle order. Australia would be ecstatic and it won’t be wrong to say that Aussies showed how a champion team fares in the crunch match.

Travis Head just puts the pressure right back on the bowlers- Pat Cummins

During the post-match presentation, Pat Cummins stated that the side made the most of losing the toss. Pat Cummins heaped praise on Travis Head & Steve Smith for their blistering tons and pointed out that Travis Head’s knock changed the face of Test match.

“We made the most of it (losing the toss). We were certainly going to bowl. The way Travis and Smithy put on that partnership, gave us the comfort after a nervy morning. He (Head) has been brilliant right throughout this campaign, started with the Ashes a couple of years ago,” said Pat Cummins.

“He just puts the pressure right back on the bowlers and suddenly you are thinking about how to contain runs rather than taking wickets. We left day one feeling like we were on top of the game. When it counted, we played really well,” he added.

Everyone did their role really well-  Pat Cummins

Cummins was quite happy with the way Scott Boland bowled as the pacer took 3 wickets in the 2nd innings and took the decisive wicket of Virat Kohli. Cummins pointed out that the Test format is his team’s favorite one.

“Coming off a break, everyone switched on when it mattered. Everyone played really well and we’ll savour this for a few years before we turn our attention (to the Ashes). This is our favourite format, we grew up watching Test cricket. It challenges you. When you win, it’s the format you get most satisfaction with. We love playing,” he added.
