Scott Boland was the best Australian bowler on the fifth day of the WTC final, picking up the big wicket of Virat Kohli to give Australia the edge early. In the end, Australia won the match by 209 runs after India were bowled out for 234 on the fifth day.
Boland picked up five wickets in the match including the big wickets of Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli in the second innings. On both occasions, he was helped by the slip cordon with Cameron Green and Steve Smith both taking screamers.

Boland’s performance in the WTC Final now makes him a sureshot to play the first Ashes Test in Edgbaston. Speaking after the match about his own performance, he said it felt good to take Virat Kohli’s wicket. Kohli was considered to be the biggest threat for Australia in the WTC final and in both innings he scored a lot less than what Australia expected.

“It was good fun. Nice to come over here for our bowling group and take 20 wickets. Probably just hit similar areas all the time (bowling plans?). There was some bounce outside the off stump, tried to exploit that. Felt good to get Kohli out. Smudge took another amazing catch today and Green took some blinders throughout the game as well” said Boland.

He further said that having the likes of Smith and Green in the slip cordon gives the bowlers the belief that knicks will be taken at slips. He also spoke about coming through the ranks playing for Victoria and how he looks forward to the Ashes.

The ICC World Test championship final win was Australia’s ninth ICC title, the most by any team in the world in men’s cricket.
