WTC Final: “It’s A Great Achievement For This Group – Steve Smith After Australia Crowned As ICC World Test Champions

The invincible Australian team asserted their dominance over India in the ICC World Test Championship final (WTC 2021-23). The Aussies won the contest by 209 runs. Steve Smith took a stunner and dismissed Virat Kohli on the bowling of Scott Boland. The ball was travelling and Steve Smith had a fraction of a second and took a blinder in the second slip.

Steve Smith in the first innings, laid the foundation for the rest of the batters. Smith & Travis Head unleashed an attack on the opposition. Travis Head played a stellar knock of 163 runs in 174 balls and struck 25 fours and 1 six and was toying with the bowlers.

Pat Cummins’ leadership was top-notch as the skipper didn’t panic even when the star batters Virat Kohli & Ajinkya Rahane were looking ominous as scoring 280 runs in 90 overs is not a big ask in modern cricket when the side has 7 wickets in hand.

India’s batters should have applied a cautious approach in the morning session as losing 7 wickets for 55 runs is unacceptable. The pitch could have eased out in the afternoon session as we witnessed in the last 4 days of the Test match.

Australia on the other hand showed why they are a champion side as everyone chipped in with wickets. Skipper Pat Cummins was quite relieved after winning the WTC final 2021-23 as it won’t be wrong to say that Aussies took revenge for BGT 2023-

Travis Head played really well – Steve Smith

After Australia won the final, Smith was having an interaction with the cricket expert and stated that the triumph says a lot about the group. Steve Smith pointed out that the first day of the match was decisive and gave credit to Travis Head for allowing him to anchor the innings.

“It’s a great achievement for this group, we played some good cricket in the last 2 years to get over here, and so did India. We got into a nice position on the first day, Travis (Head) played really well, allowed me to anchor the innings, it helped us control the innings well,” said Steve Smith.

“We know how good Virat is, he’s an exceptional player and when chasing totals, he becomes dangerous. Scott Boland was excellent in the morning spell, hit the right areas consistently, we knew he would produce that outside edge and it did come (talking about his catch),” he added.
