Australian Cricket Team registered a resounding victory over India in the WTC 2021-23 final. Australia won the match by 209 runs and now have become the first team to win all the ICC trophies. Virat Kohli would be disappointed after once again failing in big matches. Virat Kohli was dismissed on 49 runs by Scott Boland as the pacer duped him with his variations in the last innings of the match.

Virat Kohli would be shell-shocked as the team were in a better position at 179-3. Scott Boland bowled his heart out as he was quite disciplined in his line & length and didn’t change his strategy despite the batters rotating the strike.

The batting was in shambles- Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar was having an interaction with Star Sports and was furious at Virat Kohli and questioned the batter’s shot selection against Scott Boland.

Sunil Gavaskar pointed out that Indian batters played ordinary shots and gave the example of the dismissal of Cheteshwar Pujara. He said that perhaps the strike rate got into the head of Virat Kohli and termed the shot as ordinary.

“The batting was in shambles today. It was just ridiculous what we saw today. Especially the shot-making. We saw some ordinary shots yesterday from Pujara, somebody you never expect to play that shot,” said Sunil Gavaskar.

“Maybe somebody has gone into his head and said ‘strike rate, strike rate’. You have not even lasted a session. 8 wickets have not lasted a session? C’mon.

Virat Kohli talks so much about how to win a match….- Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar said that the batters are playing for landmarks and gave the examples of Ravindra Jadeja (*1st innings), Ajinkya Rahane & Virat Kohli and stated how the batters are keener to play attacking shots. Sunil Gavaskar questioned Virat Kohli for his terrible shot and asked how will he win the match by playing a ball far outside the off stump.

“It was a pretty ordinary shot. Outside the off stump. He was leaving till then. Maybe he was conscious that he needed one run to reach his half century. It happens when you are nearing a milestone,” he added.

“It happened to Jadeja. He played a delivery he shouldn’t have when he was 48. Happened to Ajinkya Rahane who was on 46. He hadn’t played that shot all this while. Suddenly why do you play that shot? Because you are aware of that landmark,” said Sunil Gavaskar.

“It was a bad shot. You should ask Kohli what shot he played. He talks so much about how to win a match you need a long innings. How are you going to do that if you play a ball so far outside the offstump?,” he added.

While doing commentary earlier in the innings, Sunil Gavaskar had slammed the batters for focusing more on the landmarks.

“I do believe that batters when they know they are near a landmark tend to try and do something to get to their landmark so we saw that in the first innings with Jadeja he was batting so well on 48 and he pushed his bat out when he thought he could run the ball down he was caught in the slips if he was not on 48 he might not even played that ball he might have left it. And we saw Kohli chase a delivery outside the off-stump He showed so much discipline then he thought oh! 1 run can get to another half-century landmarks mile stones you chose the wrong balls to play the wrong shots because you want to get there. It happens so often,” the legend had earlier said on commentary.
