Indian skipper Rohit Sharma opened up about his side failing to win another ICC tournament. He admitted that things aren’t going their way and they will be trying to do something different in the upcoming tournaments.
India’s wait for the ICC Trophy extended as they suffered a thrashing 209-run loss against Australia in the final of the ICC World Test Championship. They were outplayed in all three departments as it didn’t look like they are in the game and were dominated by the Pat Cummins-led side on all 5 days.

India displayed an extremely poor performance with both bat and ball as they first conceded 469 runs in the first innings and then with the bat could manage just 296 runs. Australia batted decently well in the second innings as well and put pressure on Indian bowlers, setting India a target of 444 runs. They started positively with the bat but lost wickets in clusters and fell short of 209 runs.
Since winning the Champions Trophy in 2013, India haven’t won a single ICC Trophy. They have suffered defeats in ODI World Cups, T20 World Cups, Champions Trophy, and ICC World Test Championships. It’s not they have been outplayed but that have failed to handle the pressure of the knockout games.

Rohit Sharma mentioned that they are taking the pressure of the big games which is the reason things are not happening for them. He made a bold statement, saying that in the upcoming events, they will different things and will allow players to play freely. Speaking to the reporters after the WTC Final, he said:
“We have been thinking that this match is important, this event is important and things are not happening. So obviously, we will have to think differently and do things differently. Our message and focus will be on trying to do something different. We have told the boys to play freely. And if it seems so, then hit. It’s a simple message. Whether it’s Test cricket, T20 cricket or one-day cricket, we don’t want to play under pressure.”
Rohit Sharma highlighted that he along with Shubman Gill come out with a positive mindset to chase the target in the WTC Final and the reason behind that was they wanted to do something different. He elaborated:
“If you look at the innings, the way Gill and I started in the second innings, our entire effort was to hit and play and put pressure on them. That’s why we were 60 runs in 10 overs. But if you play with that mindset, chances are you’ll get out. Then the comments and the people who talk about lapse of concentration. There is no lapse of concentration. It’s just that we want to play in a different way. We want to do something different.”

Rohit Sharma further went on to say that their effort is to play differently because they are unable to win the ICC trophy. He added that there are a few questions that they need to answer going ahead. He explained:
“Obviously, we have played so many ICC tournaments and have not won yet. So, our effort is to play in a different way and try to do something different. Obviously, any tournament you play, you start looking at what possibly you can do moving ahead. Honestly, the game just got over. We haven’t really given too much thought to what we want to do in the future.”
“There will be some talks around it and we’ll see whatever is required and whatever is best, whatever the brand of cricket we want to play in the next two years. And who are the guys who can do that role for us? “That is the question that we need to find answers for.”
Rohit Sharma said that they will be looking at the domestic circuit for the players and will try to give them space. He explained that they will be trying to assess the things before sorting the kind of players. He explained:
“And there are a lot of guys, there are a lot of players who are doing really well in our domestic cricket as well. It’s just about finding them and giving them that space, enough time to go forward and do the job for us. I also want to see where the next World Test Championship final is being played as well. Based on that, we will decide what sort of players we want to get ready and what kind of cricket we want to play.”
