Following India’s 209-run loss to Australia, Rohit Sharma advocated for a three-match series for future WTC Finals, stating, “I would like to play the 3-Test match series for the WTC Final. We worked hard and we fought, but we played just 1 game. I think a 3-match series would be ideal in the next WTC cycle.”

However, during the post-match press conference, Pat Cummins provided a differing perspective when asked about Sharma’s viewpoint. He remarked, “I think it’s fine. No qualms. I think ideally you’d have 50-match series but the Olympics have come down to one race to win a gold medal. AFL, NRL seasons have finals. That’s sport.”

To start the final day of the match, both teams struggled to gain an advantage. Australia’s bowlers displayed accuracy, while Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane exhibited composed batting. However, in the seventh over of the day, Scott Boland’s precise delivery led to Kohli’s dismissal as he edged the ball, resulting in a superb catch by Steve Smith.

Boland continued his success by getting Ravindra Jadeja to edge one behind the wicket, caught by Alex Carey. Although Boland narrowly missed another wicket, his early breakthroughs set the stage for Australia’s dominance.

Despite a 33-run partnership between Rahane and KS Bharat, Australia’s relentless bowling attack persisted. Rahane was eventually dismissed by Mitchell Starc in the 57th over, followed by Shardul Thakur’s dismissal by Nathan Lyon in the subsequent over, leaving India vulnerable. With India’s lower order exposed, Australia’s victory became imminent, which they ultimately sealed in the 64th over.

The WTC Final showcased Australia’s strong performance throughout the tournament, and Cummins expressed satisfaction with the team’s ability to adapt and win matches worldwide. While Rohit Sharma called for a three-match series for future WTC Finals, Cummins defended the current one-game format, drawing parallels to the nature of other sports’ championship matches.
