The mighty Aussies handed India a crushing defeat in the ICC WTC 2021-23 final. Rohit Sharma would be unhappy as the batter couldn’t convert his start in the mammoth run chase of 444 runs. Rohit Sharma was dismissed on 43 runs in 60 balls and struck 7 fours and 1 six and was undone by the sheer brilliance of Nathan Lyon.

Australia registered a thumping victory against India by a margin of 209 runs and now have become the only side that have won all the ICC trophies. Pat Cummins marshaled his troops smartly and the decision to start the innings with Scott Boland did wonders as he took some time but later got the wicket of Virat Kohli.

India lacked a strong lower middle order as the absence of KL Rahul & Rishabh Pant hurt the team a lot (*both are injured and nursing injuries). Perhaps, the management missed the trick by not including Ishan Kishan in the playing 11, the left-handed batter has similar traits like Rishabh Pant.

“Why after the IPL final? Why cannot it be March? June is not the only month we should play the final. It can be played any time of the year and anywhere in the world, not just in England, it can be played anywhere in the world,” said Rohit Sharma.

A three-match series would be nice- Rohit Sharma

India skipper Rohit Sharma wanted a 3-match series final but was unsure whether there is any window available to stage the tournament. Rohit pointed out that in Test cricket, the teams require time to find momentum and suggested a 3-match series final.

“I would love that [a three-match final] But is there a time? That’s the big question. Honestly, in a big event like this you need to have fair opportunities for both the teams,” said Rohit Sharma.

“A three-match series would be nice but it’s about finding that window, where it can fit in. An event like this you work hard for two years and then you only have one shot at it. It’s not really – you cannot get into that momentum that you need in Test cricket. Test cricket is all about finding that rhythm, finding that momentum as well. I think yeah, if in the next cycle if it is possible, three-match series would be ideal,” he added.
