Indian Cricket Team suffered a humiliating defeat against Australia in the WTC final. Sunil Gavaskar pointed out that there was no intent from the players in the summit clash. Sunil Gavaskar made a huge statement that the selection panel should take some bold decisions.

India needed 280 runs in 90 overs but it seemed as if the batters were in a hurry to chase down the target as losing 7 wickets for 55 runs is quite humiliating. The duo of Virat Kohli & Ajinkya Rahane should have shown some resistance given the fact that the lower middle order was quite fragile.

Australia would be ecstatic as they made a statement that how a champion team fares in crunch moments of the match. Aussies hunted in a pack which is the main reason that the side now have won all the ICC tournaments.

If tough calls have to be made, you make the tough calls- Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar was having an interaction with the Sports Today and was quite furious on the players for not putting up a fight and questioned India’s decision to bowl first in the octane clash. Sunil Gavaskar made a staggering statement that apart from Asia Cup, India doesn’t win World Titles.

“You have to be brutally honest and say from the beginning what was your approach. Was your approach in tune with what is expected for a World Test Championship Final? Was your approach a little too conservative in terms of team selection, in terms of deciding whether to bat or bowl or whatever it is?” said Sunil Gavaskar.

“All those questions have to be asked. Look, we are never going to win titles apart from Asia Cup maybe, but the world titles, if we are going to be sweeping things under the carpet. If tough calls have to be made, you make the tough calls and then let maybe if a failure has to be there, then let it be done by somebody who is new to the job,” he added.

Shubman Gill was trying to play Test match cricket- Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar stated that Shubman Gill was in great form and was playing Test match cricket. Gavaskar said that the side must accept the defeat rather than making excuses as India haven’t won ICC event since 2013 Champions Trophy.

“With all the experience that you have got, you cannot make the excuse. Shubman Gill was in great form. He is the only guy who got out not playing a shot. So you’ll say, ‘Oh, he should’ve played shots’. I mean he was trying to play Test match cricket. He tried to leave the ball, got bowled. In the second innings, he got a ball which bounced a little bit, that’s why,” said Sunil Gavaskar.

“So look, don’t make excuses. Just be brutally honest, brutally frank. Look at the fact that you guys made mistakes, accept them. If you want to punish them for those mistakes, do that,” he added.
