New Zealand all-rounder James Neesham put out a tweet counting down the number of days until the next T20 World Cup that will be held in Australia.
The Black Caps suffered another heartbreak in the final, this time against their bogey team, Australia. Neither team was a favorite coming into the tournament but each played their hearts out to reach the final of the T20 World Cup.
In the grand finale held on Sunday, Australia came out on top quite comprehensively, ending their drought for the elusive T20 World Cup. Kane Williamson and co. on the other hand, fell short once again, their second final defeat in 3 years.
Following the loss, Neesham put out a tweet signifying that he has already set his eyes on the next tournament instead of sulking in last night’s defeat.

In the aftermath of the crushing final, skipper Williamson was heartbroken but praised his side for the way they played in alien territory. Coming into the tournament that was to be held in UAE, nobody gave the Kiwis much of a chance considering their weakness against spin.
“Wasn’t to be today, but proud of how we’ve operated. Guys committed to what we tried to do in venues that varied a lot. There was a lot of heart shown, always nice to get to the big dance. But credit to Australia again. Some high hopes coming in, some good cricket played, so we’re feeling it a bit. There are only two possible outcomes, shame we couldn’t get the job done,” Williamson said.
Williamson scored a magnificent 85-run knock in the final, equaling Marlon Samuels’ record for the highest score in the final of a T20 World Cup. It wasn’t enough in the end, as Mitchell Marsh and David Warner’s twin half-centuries helped Australia chase down the target of 173 quite comfortably.
