Former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram has said that a player scoring the most runs in a tournament doesn’t necessarily deserve the Man of the Tournament award as the impact of the innings in the match is also a very important factor.

Pakistan fans were upset after their skipper Babar Azam despite being the top run-getter in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 didn’t win the Man of the tournament award instead Australian opener David Warner won the award.

The legendary Pakistan pacer, Wasim Akram said that the jury, nominated by the ICC, considers many things like the impact of particular player performance on the team. He also highlighted that Warner has single-handedly won games for Australia.

It doesn’t have to be most runs, they have also seen the impact,” said Akram on A Sports.

“They saw which particular player during the tournament had an impact from his performances on the side and Warner won Australia matches single-handedly on most occasions. They also lifted the World Cup which was the icing on the cake,” he added.

Meanwhile, Pakistan National Cricket Team had a sensational run in the Super 12 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 as they won all 5 games. However, in the semi-final, they were knocked out of the tournament by Australia. Notably, Australia went on to defeat New Zealand in the final to clinch their maiden T20 World title.
