Naturally, the Proteas have a strong bowling attack with the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Wayne Parnell, and Marco Jansen steaming in and clocking 140kmph. However, it is South Africa’s batting that looks solid. With Rilee Rossouw, Aiden Markram, and David Miller in the middle order, it is one of the most fearsome. All three batters have struck at a strike rate of 160 plus in T20Is in 2022. Add Tristian Stubbs to the mix and South Africa’s middle order looks threatening.

India bowlers have so far bowled well, but to stop such a quality batting line-up they will need to be at their very best. Arshdeep Singh (3/32 against Pakistan and 2/37 against Netherlands), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1/22 against Pakistan and 2/9 against Netherlands), Mohammed Shami (1/25 against Pakistan and 1/27 against the Netherlands), Hardik Pandya (3/30 against Pakistan), Axar Patel(2/18 against Netherlands) and Ravichandran Ashwin (2/21 against the Netherlands) have bowled well so far. They will hope to continue with the same momentum against Proteas too.

India defeated the Netherlands by 56 runs to register their second consecutive win in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. Electing to bat, India scored 179 for 2 and then restricted Netherlands to 123 for 9. India produced a solid batting display with Rohit Sharma (53), Virat Kohli (62 not out), and Suryakumar Yadav (51 not out) – all scoring scintillating fifties.

Defending, pacers Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/9) and Arshdeep Singh (2/37) and the spin duo of Axar Patel (2/18) and Ravichandran Ashwin (2/21) shone bright with the ball for India. India’s five specialist bowlers shared the wickets, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, Axar Patel, and Ravichandran Ashwin picking up two apiece, and Mohammed Shami one.

India 179 for 2 (Kohli 62*, Rohit 53, Suryakumar 51*) beat Netherlands 123 for 9 (Bhuvneshwar 2-9, Axar 2-18) by 56 runs

Rilee Rossouw struck the first century of this ICC T20 World Cup 2022 to give South Africa a dominating 104-run win against Bangladesh at the Sydney Cricket Ground. His big-hitting 109 helped his side to the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 edition’s highest total, with he and Quinton de Kock adding 163 for the second wicket, the second-highest partnership in the tournament’s history.

Bangladesh started the 206-run chase promisingly but after South Africa pacer Anrich Nortje’s three-wicket burst, the batters fell apart against the South African spinners. Anrich Nortje finished with his best T20I figures of 4-10, while Tabraiz Shamsi took three wickets. Getting bowled out for 101, it is now Bangladesh’s biggest defeat in this format.

South Africa 205 for 5 (Rossouw 109, de Kock 63, Shakib 2-33) beat Bangladesh 101 (Litton 34, Nortje 4-10, Shamsi 3-20) by 104 runs

Team India posted their first win of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 on board thanks to the brilliance of former captain Virat Kohli and all-rounder Hardik Pandya. However, the win was not without its hiccups along the way against arch-rivals Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday (October 23).

Hardik Pandya was impressive with the ball as well against Pakistan, picking up three important wickets and scoring 40 runs with the bat, putting on a record 113 runs for the fifth wicket with Virat Kohli who scored 82*.

Virat Kohli single-handedly powered India to an epic four-wicket win over arch-rivals Pakistan with a magnificent 53-ball 82 not out in their big-ticket ICC T20 World Cup 2022 game. Pakistan recovered from a wobbly start to post a fighting 159 for eight. India completed the chase in the last ball, with Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya (40) doing the bulk of the scoring after a horror start to their innings.

The two revived India with a 113-run stand for the fourth wicket after they were reeling at 31/4 at one stage. Sent in to bat, Pakistan were well served by Iftikhar Ahmed’s 34-ball 51 and Shan Masood’s unbeaten 52 off 42 balls after they lost their first two wickets with just 15 runs on the board in the fourth over. Arshdeep Singh picked both openers in form Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan.

India 160 for 6 (Kohli 82*, Hardik 40) beat Pakistan 159 for 8 (Masood 52*, Iftikhar 51, Arshdeep 3-32, Hardik 3-30) by four wickets

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja has made a big revelation on how he planned the dismissal of the star India National Cricket Team opening batsman, Rohit Sharma, with Pakistan National Cricket Team captain Babar Azam ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World 2021 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

When India and Pakistan went head-to-head in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup last year, the Virat Kohli-led Team India lost the match by 10 wickets against the Babar Azam-led Pakistan.

Winning the toss and bowling first, Pakistan restricted India to 151/7. Chasing the target, openers Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam batted brilliantly and chased down the target in 17.5 overs. The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 win of Team Pakistan was their first victory against Team India in a World Cup match.

The pace spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi won the Player of the Match award for his 3-wicket haul against India. He bagged the wickets of Rohit for a golden duck, KL Rahul for 3 and Virat Kohli for 57.

Speaking on a BBC podcast, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja recalled his chat with Pakistan captain Babar ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021.

Raja said that he had asked Babar about his plans against India before the team left for the World Cup. The PCB chief added that he told Babar to use left-arm pacer Afridi against Rohit to dismiss him easily.

“Babar Azam was here with the Chief Selector before leaving for the World Cup, and I asked him what are your plans against India,” Ramiz said.

“I can tell you how to get rid of Rohit Sharma right now and Babar was intrigued. I said get Shaheen Afridi bowling at 100mph, get a man at short-leg. Just bowl that inswinging yorker at 100mph and do not give him a single and keep him on strike. You will get him out.” he added.

Meanwhile, the arch-rivals India and Pakistan have been placed in the Group 2 of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 along with South Africa and Bangladesh.

The highly-anticipated clash between India National Cricket Team and Pakistan National Cricket Team will take place on October 23 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli will head into the T20 World Cup 2022 with some good form. He found his form in the recently concluded Asia Cup where he scored 275 runs in five games including his maiden T20I century.

He also scored a crucial fifty in the third T20I against Australia in Hyderabad which was a decider. Kohli has been able to get over his rough patch with the bat which stayed for almost three years.

Heading into the T20 World Cup, he still has two more games against South Africa to get form more runs under his belt. In the first T20I, he scored just three off nine balls in India’s 8-wicket win. In this article, we discuss three reasons why Virat Kohli should not have been in India’s T20 World Cup squad had his lean patch continued.

There was a lot of talk regarding his 71st international century and the wait for it was taking a toll on him. His weakness to balls outside off stump was again exposed all over again as Kohli searched for quick runs.

PAK vs IND: India Predicted Playing 11 vs Pakistan, Match 3-Asia Cup 2023

Former India National Cricket Team player Ajay Jadeja, ahead of the Asia Cup 2022 India-Pakistan clash, has revealed why he believes Team India’s batting is currently in a “worse position than it was at the T20 World Cup 2021”.

India National Cricket Team entered the ICC Men’s T20 World 2021 as favourites to win the championship, but the defeat in the back-to-back games against Pakistan and New Zealand knocked the Men In Blue out of the semi-finals race. Notably, the Indian batters failed to perform well against Pakistan and New Zealand during the World Cup.

Meanwhile, in the second match of the Asia Cup 2022, Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team will take on Babar Azam-led Pakistan National Cricket Team at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, August 28.

During a discussion on Cricbuzz, Jadeja highlighted that the star batters KL Rahul and Virat Kohli don’t have good game time heading into the multi-nation tournament. He added that Rohit Sharma was in better form during the last year’s World Cup and only Suryakumar Yadav is the batter, who has been playing and scoring runs regularly. He elaborated:

“India’s batting is currently in a worse position than it was at the T20 World Cup last year. KL Rahul has not had much games because of his injury. He came back and tried getting some game time in Zimbabwe, but couldn’t score.

“Virat Kohli has not played at all. Rohit Sharma too maybe was in better form last year. Suryakuar Yadav has been on another level. He’s the only one who has been playing regularly.”

Jadeja further spoke about India’s new attacking approach in T20Is and said that the best batters of India’s current T20I setup are not the most aggressive players in the country.  He said:

“The only worry I have is that we are wanting to play a brand of cricket which our great players are not known for. The greatest players from our current side are not the most aggressive players that we have in India. They are the most solid and consistent. But we don’t want them to play like that.”

The last time when the Men In Blue and the Men In Green locked horns at the same venue during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, the Virat Kohli-led Team India lost the match by 10 wickets. Also, India’s heartbreaking 10-wicket defeat in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 match against Pakistan was the first defeat of Team India against Team Pakistan in a World Cup match.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Rahul said that the tournament opener defeat against Pakistan in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 had hurt the team.

“Yes, obviously. Losing any game in a World Cup always hurts you a little bit. It was our first game of the World Cup last year and we were very excited. Any team that enters the World Cup wants to start well, but unfortunately, that did not happen for us. We were outplayed against a really strong Pakistan team,” he said.

It is a contest we are all looking forward to – KL Rahul on the India-Pakistan clash

KL Rahul further said that all the players are looking forward to the battle against Pakistan and are eager to go out there on the field.

“Yes we get an opportunity to once again play against them, it is a contest we are all looking forward to and we all are eager to go out there. The game starts from zero, there might be history but it does not count for anything. It will always start from zero,” Rahul said.

Team India clearly have an upper hand in the Asia Cup rivalry against Pakistan. The Asian giants have collided a total of 14 times in the multi-nation tournament. The Men In Blue have emerged victorious 8 times and Pakistan won in 5 matches with one match ending in no result in the year 1997. Also, India are the most successful team in the Asia Cup history with 7 title victories and Pakistan have won only 2 championships.

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has come out in support of former Indian skipper Virat Kohli after the latter’s recent failures with the bat. Once considered to be the best in this generation, Virat Kohli has had a massive downfall in his career over the last couple of years as he has gone on to play 77 international innings without scoring a century.

As far as the overall century stand is concerned, Virat is just behind Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting on this list as he has already smashed 70 international centuries in the illustrious career that he has had so far. While Sachin Tendulkar is on top of the chart with 100 international centuries, Ponting has gone on to score 71 international 100s.

Babar Azam Lends Support To Virat Kohli

Every big player has gone through a lean patch in his/her international career. The only thing which is questionable at the moment is Virat Kohli’s rather unusual patch where he just doesn’t seem to be showing any signs of improvement.

With the Indian bench filled with youngsters waiting to go up on the big stage and deliver for the country, it will become even more challenging for the team management and the selectors to keep retaining Virat until he roars back to life.

Babar Azam and Virat Kohli

Although Virat has seen a slump in his form, he has received affection from his fans and the global cricketing community in huge numbers. The latest addition to this list is none other than Pakistan skipper and one of the most fierce rivals of Virat Kohli in modern-day cricket, Babar Azam.

After Virat failed to deliver with the bat against England in the 2nd ODI, Babar Azam came up with a tweet wherein, he wrote, “This too shall pass, stay strong, #Virat Kohli”

Watch the tweet here:

It is noteworthy that Babar is considered to be one of Virat’s biggest competitors in terms of cricketing action. Babar is at the peak of his form currently and has been scoring hundreds for fun off-late, a feat which was earlier achieved by Virat Kohli. Although Virat is miles ahead of Babar in terms of runs and centuries, it should be borne in mind that Babar is young and has a lot more years to offer to international cricket.

If Babar Azam goes on to play in the same fashion for the next 506 years, he might break Virat Kohli’s records too as he has been doing so far. Although Babar and Virat have a great on-field rivalry, off-the-field, they are sweet to each other.

Visuals from India vs Pakistan match in T20 World Cup 2021 came out as a great sigh of relief for both Virat and Babar fans as they seemed quite at ease with each other.

Not only was it a great sign of sportsmanship, but also a peace-making effort as both, India and Pakistan have not been playing bilateral cricket since 2012 due to political tensions between the two countries. It is thus one of the greatest fixtures in any of the multi-team tournaments, that these two teams are a part of.

The two sides will go head to head against each other in the Asia Cup 2022 on August 28 if the tournament goes as per schedule. They might collide once again in the knockouts of the Asia Cup and then they will face each other in the Group Stage match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

Mohammad Rizwan In ICU

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) doctor Najeebullah Soomro has revealed that the Pakistan team’s opener, Mohammad Rizwan, was given a prohibited substance while recovering during last year’s T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Rizwan had a severe chest infection and was battling in the ICU in between Pakistan’s matches in the tournament. Ahead of Pakistan’s semifinal against Australia, he was treated and the opener made a quick recovery to be available for the game.

It has now been revealed that Soomro had to request permission from the ICC to use a medicine that was prohibited for athletes as they were left with no choice considering Rizwan’s condition.

Mohammad Rizwan

You were unable to breathe and I have to get permission from the ICC to inject that medicine to help you recover. Usually, it is prohibited for the athletes but since there was no other option available, we have to take permission from the ICC to inject that medicine,” Dr. Soomro said while conducting an interview with Rizwan.

“I am astonished at the pace he had recovered” – Mohammad Rizwan’s doctor

Specialist Pulmonologist at Medeor Hospital, Saheer Sainalabdeen treated Rizwan and was a strong catalyst in Rizwan’s stunning recovery. However, he was thoroughly impressed with Rizwan’s determination and resilience, even surprised at the pace of recovery.

Rizwan had a strong desire to play for his nation in the crucial knockout match. He was strong, determined, and confident. I am astonished at the pace he had recovered. His pain at the time of admission was 10/10. So, we subjected him for a detailed evaluation to diagnose the condition.”

Esophageal spasms can feel like sudden and severe chest pain that lasts for a few minutes to hours. Rizwan had a severe infection. Recovery and gaining fitness before the semifinal seemed unrealistic. It would have normally taken 5-7 days for anybody to recover,” Saheer had said at the time.

Rizwan went on to score 67 off 52 balls for Pakistan in the semifinal against Australia. Unfortunately, it ended in a losing cause as the Aussies rode on late heroics from Matthew Wade and Marcus Stoinis to chase the target down.

Pakistan pacer Hasan Ali dropped Matthew Wade in a tense semi-final of the T20 World Cup last year in the UAE. The drop proved costly as Pakistan went onto lose that game and Australia eventually went onto win the T20 World Cup.

Heading into the semi-final Pakistan remained unbeaten and also beat India in the league stage. Everything was going for them in the tournament until that point when the drop catch cost them a place in the T20 World Cup final. Months later, Hasan Ali is now playing Lancashire in the English County Championships. In an interview with Pak Passion, the Pakistan seamer looked back on the drop catch and opened up on his thoughts on the same. He spoke about how the missed opportunity still gives him nightmares time and again.

“That dropped catch in the semi-final against Australia did give me nightmares for a couple of nights. I was in deep shock and felt very low for letting the side down at that point and couldn’t figure out how and why I dropped that catch. Especially given that as an individual and a team we trained very hard on our fielding so it was a tough pill to swallow for me but as a professional I do know that such things can happen again, just like dropped catches have happened in the past as well,” Ali told Pakistan’s cricket website PakPassion.

Hasan Ali further spoke about how he had to cope up with the hatred of the people of Pakistan after he failed to take his team to the World Cup final.

“Of course, for me it’s more painful because I feel that people have started to hate me and started believing that I am incapable of playing for Pakistan. Obviously, this would have been a different story had I held on to that catch but that is the past and no one can change that,” said Hasan.

With the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup scheduled later this year in Australia, Pakistan has a chance to win a couple of titles in T20I cricket.

The 21-year-old was asked which amongst KL Rahul or Rohit Sharma was his favourite dismissal in the World Cup clash against India to which he replied by saying that Rahul’s wicket was his favourite because he was not expecting the ball to move “that much”. Speaking on Pakistani journalist Mazher Arshad’s YouTube channel, Afridi said:

“Rahul’s wicket was the favourite one. I think I wasn’t even expecting the ball to move in that much after pitching. It was my second over only and generally, the ball doesn’t move that much in the first couple of overs. “

The Indian selection committee decided to drop leg-spinner Chahal from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 squad and young leg-spinner Rahul Chahar was given the preference over him and Chahar was the sole leg-spinner in the T20 World Cup 2021 team.

The team was supposed to be announced at 9:30 and then it got delayed by a bit. I swear I did not know that my name wouldn’t come. When the list came, I did not say anything to anyone for a few minutes,” he stated.

Yuzvendra Chahal added that he was very low and didn’t “feel like eating anything that night”.

My wife was asking me about the announcement and I sent her the screenshot. The dinner had arrived but didn’t feel like eating anything that night. Felt very low as I wasn’t dropped even once for five years,” he asserted.

Pakistan pace bowler Hasan Ali opened up on the lowest point of his career after he dropped Australian wicket-keeper Matthew Wade in the semi-final game of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

Pakistan lost to Australia by five wickets in the semi-final match after nearly dominating the entire game.

Australia were reduced to 96/5 at one stage while they were chasing 177, thanks to leg-spinner Shadab Khan’s classic bowling with the figures of 4/26 from his four overs.

It was Australian wicket-keeper Matthew Wade and all-rounder Marcus Stoinis who scripted a marvellous chase with their uneaten partnership of 81 to enter the final.

After the 17th over, Wade shifted his gears and smoked one big shot to Hasan Ali over long-on for a six, then flicked a boundary on the final ball of the 18th over.

Wade was dropped by Hasan Ali just before he hammered three consecutive sixes to Pakistan’s best bowler Shaheen Afridi to wrap the match in the penultimate over itself.

It was the tough moment of my career: Hasan Ali

Hasan Ali also went expensive with his bowling as he ended up conceding 44 runs from his four overs. Hasan faced the wrath of the disappointed Pakistan fans on social media and some also abused him for the loss.

After two months, Hasan revealed that he wasn’t able to get sleep for some days after the semi-final game.

It was the tough moment of my career and it was quite difficult for me to forget. I haven’t revealed this to anyone until now but I didn’t sleep for two days, my wife was with me and she was tense as I was not sleeping,” said Hasan was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

“I was quiet and sitting at the side as the dropped catch was appearing in my mind continuously but while travelling to Bangladesh I told myself that I should move on,” he added.

Shoaib Akhtar supported me after the match: Hasan Ali

Hasan also talked about how former Pakistan pacer and other cricket experts showed solidarity towards him during his tough moment.

“All my teammates are aware of how I approach the games and that I don’t take the matches lightly. I prepare well and I always try to perform for Pakistan. After the match, I was crying and so was Shaheen; it was an extremely sad moment,” Hasan revealed.

“Shoaib bhai came to me and told me that you are a tiger and that I shouldn’t fall. In addition to that, I also received a lot of support on social media which helped me ease through the pain,” he added.

Hasan is currently playing for Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League 2022, he has picked three wickets from the first two games so far in this season.

Star England speedster Jofra Archer has said that not being able to participate in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 and the Ashes 2021-22 are the two hardest pills he has swallowed.

Pacer Archer missed most of the action in 2021 after undergoing surgery on his elbow. Notably, the surgery ruled him out of the Indian Premier League 2021, ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 and the Ashes 2021-22.

Speaking to Sportsmail, England pacer asserted that while watching the Ashes he felt like he had let everyone down. He elaborated:

“The hardest two pills I’ve had to swallow were not playing in the Twenty20 World Cup and the Ashes, but other than that, everything has been so good since.”

“Watching the Ashes, I felt like I had let everyone down a little bit when you see fast bowlers taking 90 per cent of the wickets — but you don’t get injured on purpose.

“Of course, I want to be part of making this England team success, but this past year has taught me that you can plan all you want, then something happens to change everything.”

I know I am not ready yet – Jofra Archer

Jofra Archer also said that he is aware of the fact that he is not yet ready to make an international comeback. He added that he has waited for a very long time for an international comeback and now he doesn’t want to rush the process.

Within myself, I know I am not ready yet, but having access to the doctors, the physio and removing the need to go back to England feels like a real plus. I feel like I am stealing time right now. Right now, I can do everything but it’s small step.”

I have no idea when I will be playing matches, I am just trying to build up and it’s all about what I can tolerate at any given time. That’s all. I’ve had a few rehabs now, and sometimes it can get to a level where you aggravate your hand, and you have to back off a little bit.

“I’ve waited long enough so it makes no sense rushing the last bit. I’ve got five months at my disposal, so it will be whenever I’m ready.”

Speaking to Cricket Pakistan in an interview on their YouTube channel, Rizwan talked about the match against India and said that at first, it felt like a normal match but when he returned home after the Bangladesh series the reception made him realise that playing against India was not ordinary and there was much more at stake.

“Honestly, it felt like a normal match, like any other game. We felt the hype of the World Cup after getting there (in UAE). Before the match, I had an interview with Indian media and they asked if I was nervous. I told them that I don’t feel any different as of now but if and when I do, I will let you know (chuckles).”

“But the response and love we received from the fans and the country cannot be explained in words. When we got home from the Bangladesh tour after the World Cup, the reception made me realise that playing against India is not ordinary because there’s much more at stake than playing against any other opposition,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Ravi Shastri believes that India’s “timid and tentative” approach cost them the world cup. Speaking on the ‘Bold & Brave The Ravi Shastri Way’ show on Star Sports, Former India head coach said:

“Pakistan played well on that day, and against New Zealand, we were timid. We were very timid. It showed in the game. We were tentative instead of going for the jugular. You never mind losing as long as you’re throwing punches. But if you’re timid and tentative then it hurts more. And in a tournament like this if you lose too early then you’re in trouble.”

Former Pakistan leg spinner Danish Kaneria has picked his T20I XI after the culmination of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 and a number of players in his XI are on the basis of their performances in the tournament and throughout the year 2021.

Starting at the top of the order, Kaneria picked the Pakistan duo of skipper Babar Azam and wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan. The duo has been simply sensational with the bat for the entire year and have consistently notched up opening stands that have set up a number of wins for Pakistan. They were one of the main reasons why Pakistan were unbeaten in the group phase of the T20 World Cup this year.

Danish Kaneria picked Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan as openers in his XI

“Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam are my openers as performed really well throughout 2021. They were outstanding in the T20 World Cup (2021) and they played well in the recently concluded series against West Indies as well,” Danish Kaneria said in a video on his YouTube channel.

Danish Kaneria explains the reason for picking Jos Buttler over the Indian star trio

Jos Buttler

At No.3, Danish Kaneria didn’t pick any of the big guns from India like Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul or Virat Kohli. One of the main reasons for this was that India failed to turn up with the bat in decisive games in the T20 World Cup and got knocked out of the group phase.

On the other hand, Jos Buttler had a sensational campaign for England with the bat. Although England got knocked out in the semis, Buttler scored a magnificent 269 runs in six innings at a staggering average of 89.66 and also had a century to his name against Sri Lanka. This was the reason why Danish Kaneria picked up Jos Buttler ahead of the Indian star batsmen.

“People will say at one down it should be Rohit Sharma or KL Rahul or Virat Kohli but no I have a different opinion, I will go with Jos Buttler as he really batted well and had also scored a hundred in World Cup. So, he deserves the spot,” Kaneria added.

Danish Kaneria’s T20 XI for 2021: Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone, Mitchell Marsh, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shaheen Afridi, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah, Adam Zampa; Rishabh Pant (12th Man).

In a video shared by Sport360 Wasim Akram said:

They were the favourites to win the World Cup. And I suppose after the first game… after especially Shaheen Afridi’s first over, they never could recover. “

“Then you see, there were a lot of talks about they concentrate on the IPL a lot more, Their players don’t play against international players as much in the other league. And probably they were right at times because very few have faced – Pakistan and India have hardly played cricket – very few have faced Shaheen, Haris Rauf or Hasan Ali,” he added.

India Have To Allow The Players To Play At Least One Or Two More Leagues Worldwide – Wasim Akram

Akram feels that Indian players should play other franchise cricket leagues in the world to get the experience of playing in different conditions and against different players. He said:

When you play leagues in different countries – one or two, I’m not saying play every league – at least your players get the experience to play against the other bowlers, different pitches, different teams, different conditions.”

Wasim Akram added that the Indian Premier League (IPL) is No.1 T20 league but allowing players to play more leagues in the world would be beneficial for the team. He said:

So I think they (India) have to think back… IPL is the number 1 league, yes, money-wise, talent-wise but they have to allow the players at least one or two more leagues worldwide.”

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly expressed his disappointment over the poor performance of the Indian team in the recently concluded T20 World Cup held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

India crashed out of the Super 12 stage after losses against Pakistan and New Zealand in their first two encounters. Although they managed to win the remaining three games in the group, it wasn’t enough as they finished third on the points table.

[I am] a little disappointed with the way we played this World Cup. I think this has been the poorest of all that I have seen in the last four-five years. I don’t know what’s the reason but I just felt they did not play with enough freedom this World Cup.

Sometimes it happens in big tournaments, you just get stuck and when I saw them playing against Pakistan and New Zealand – I just felt this was the team which was playing to 15% of its ability. And sometimes you can’t just a finger on it that this is the reason why it happened,” Ganguly stated.

“One bad day and the entire good work for two months was wiped away” – Sourav Ganguly on 2019 ODI World Cup

Sourav Ganguly went further back to reminisce about India’s performances in the last few ICC events. The Men in Blue reached the final of the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy where they were beaten to submission by Pakistan. In the 2019 ODI World Cup, they dominated the tournament before bowing out in the semifinals.

To be honest, 2017 [and] 2019, I think India was good. 2017 Champions Trophy we lost the final to Pakistan at the Oval, I was a commentator then. Then the 2019 World Cup in England, we were exceptional right throughout, beat everyone and lost to New Zealand in the semi-final – one bad day and the entire good work for two months was just wiped away,” Ganguly added.

The next ICC event that the team will take part in is the 2022 T20 World Cup scheduled to be held in Australia.

I Feel The Indians Were Scared Even Before The Match Started – Inzamam-Ul-Haq On India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup 2021 Clash

Former Pakistan skipper Inzamam-Ul-Haq has said that Virat Kohli-led India National Cricket Team were scared before the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 clash against Babar Azam-led Pakistan National Cricket Team.

Babar Azam and co. won the toss against India and opted to field first in the T20 World Cup clash and Shaheen Shah Afridi provided a great start by dismissing Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul early on in the innings and in the end India with the help of Virat Kohli’s half-century were able to post 151 runs on the board. Chasing the target skipper Babar Azam and wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan remained not out and completed the chase in 17.5 overs to help Pakistan win their first-ever World Cup game against India.

Inzamam-Ul-Haq believes that the body language of captain Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma was very poor and it looked like they were under tremendous pressure. Speaking on ARY News Inzamam-Ul-Haq said:

I feel the Indians were scared even before the match started. Their body language, if you see Virat Kohli and Babar Azam’s interview at the toss, you could sense who was under pressure. Our team’s body language was much better than theirs. It wasn’t that India were under pressure after Rohit Sharma’s dismissal. Sharma himself was under pressure. It was evident that they all were under pressure,”

Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-Ul-Haq feels that India are a good T20 team but they were unable to handle the pressure of a high-profile game against Pakistan. He said:

Indian team never plays the way they did. They are a good T20 team, there is no doubt about it. If you look at their performance in the last 2-3 years, they were the favourites. But that India-Pakistan match put so much pressure on them that there was no looking back.”

Inzamam-Ul-Haq further added that after battling against arch-rivals Pakistan the pressure mounted on the Indian team and they were unable to recover from it. He asserted:

Their feet weren’t moving at all. After losing to Pakistan, they were handed so much criticism and there was a 3-4 day break. The poor guys couldn’t even play Santner and Sodhi. They are such good players of spin. That pressure mounted on them.”

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed the record viewership number set during the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2021 tournament. The match between India and Pakistan on October 24 in the Super 12 stage became the most viewed T20I match in history.

The clash between the rivals set a new record with 15.9 billion minutes in India alone. It beat the previous viewership record set during the India vs West Indies semifinal in the T20 World Cup 2016.

In total, the tournament viewership count reached 167 million while watching almost 10,000 hours of live coverage across TV and digital platforms in nearly 200 countries. Despite India’s group stage exit, the number of minutes recorded in India was a staggering 112 billion minutes.

“We are pleased with these outstanding global viewership numbers” – ICC CEO

The ICC CEO Geoff Allardice was ecstatic about the viewership numbers and hoped to grow the game across different countries in a bid to continue the immense development of the sport.

We are pleased with these outstanding global viewership numbers, that demonstrate the power of T20I cricket to attract a huge audience across the globe on linear and digital platforms.”

It reinforces our belief that there is a significant opportunity and appetite to grow the game in our strategic growth markets including the USA, so more fans can enjoy it, more kids are inspired by it, and sponsors and broadcasters want to be a part of it,” Allardice said.

ICC’s alliance with Facebook proved to be an excellent idea as a total of 4.3 billion views was recorded across the channels as compared to the 3.6 billion garnered during the 2019 ODI World Cup. In the UK, Pakistan, and Australia, the viewership count skyrocketed by 7% (Sky Sports), 7,3% (PTV, ARY, Ten Sports), and 175% (Fox) respectively.

Former Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq said that Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant hasn’t lived up to the expectations. India won the first T20I against New Zealand by five wickets at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Wednesday.

Rohit scored 48 from 36 balls and built another brilliant 58-run partnership with Suryakumar Yadav, who made 62 off 40 balls.

Rishabh Pant appeared under pressure: Inzamam-ul-Haq

Pant struggled to score as he made 13 runs off 16 balls by the 19th over. However, he hit the winning runs for India with a boundary off Daryl Mitchell.

Pant scored 78 runs in the T20 World Cup, where India couldn’t qualify for the semi-final round.

Inzamam feels Pant is playing under pressure and hasn’t played up to his expectations.

“I had a lot of expectations from Rishabh Pant. The way he has performed in the last two years, I rated him highly. I saw him play in Australia, then against England when they toured India earlier this year.

“The conditions he played in. I thought that, like Dhoni, when the top order fails, he makes up for it at the bottom. I felt that Pant is that sort of player. But since the World Cup, he hasn’t lived up to my expectations,” Inzamam said on his YouTube channel.

“He appeared under pressure. Earlier as well, he has been under pressure, but he always used to hit his way out of it. So lately, he hasn’t lived up to my expectations. He scored 17 off 17 but having said that. He is a treat to watch. He must have realised it, and I’m certain he will improve his game,” he added.

India will play the second T20I against New Zealand on November 19 at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi.

Australia opener David Warner, who was the Player of the Tournament, didn’t find a place in Kevin Pietersen’s best eleven of the recently-concluded T20 World Cup.

Instead, the former England captain opted for Mohammad Rizwan and Jos Buttler as the two openers, followed by the leading run-scorer of the tournament, Babar Azam, who scored 303 runs in 6 matches. Kevin Pietersen hailed the Pakistani captain as “among the most consistent and best T20 batters in the world.”

Rizwan amassed 281 runs while Buttler accumulated 269 runs at a strike rate of 151, including a hundred against Sri Lanka. For middle-order sports, Kevin Pietersen picked Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka and South Africa’s Aiden Markram. Both the batsmen were played a number of impactful knocks for their respective teams and remained solid in the middle and death overs.

England’s Moeen Ali and Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga are the two all-rounders Kevin Pietersen opted for. Hasaranga was the leading wicket-taker of the tournament with 16 scalps – including a hat-trick versus South Africa – and struck runs at a strike rate of 148.

Moeen Ali was England’s most economical bowler, conceding at 5.5 runs per over, and took 7 wickets. The left-hander averaged 46 with the bat while striking at 131.

Adam Zampa

Adam Zampa, the joint second-leading wicket-taker with 13 wickets, was an automatic pick as the leg-spinner made regular strikes, and also bagged a five-wicket haul against Bangladesh. Kevin Pietersen stated that Zampa’s wicket-taking ability in the middle overs “was one of the key reasons why Australia won the tournament.”

Amongst pacers, the 41-year-old former England batsman chose Trent Boult, Anrich Nortje, Shaheen Afridi. Boult snapped up 13 wickets, Nortje took 9, and Afridi returned with 7 wickets in the tournament. All three pacers were instrumental in the success of their sides.

Kevin Pietersen’s best XI of T20 World Cup:

The southpaw stitched a crucial partnership alongside Marcus Stoinis when Australia was in all sorts of trouble and hit three consecutive sixes off the bowling of Shaheen Afridi that sealed the game. Australia went on to win the grand finale and clinched their maiden T20 World Cup title.

Matthew Wade Explains The Seriousness Of His Injury

Matthew Wade suffered a grade 2 side strain which could have kept him out of the finals but managed to fight through it. He reckoned the team would have been hurt by his loss as a keeper and noted he was worried about his injury the day before the game.

“I was a little bit worried the night before the game, for sure. If I had woken up and I couldn’t swing the bat, I wouldn’t have played. I was worried that if we’d batted first and I had to go as hard as I could and I tore it then, I wouldn’t be able to keep and that would hurt the team a lot,” Matthew Wade told as reported by cricket.com.au

“I Was Always Going To Go Out There And Play” – Matthew Wade

Matthew Wade mentioned it would be nearly impossible for him to miss out on the game unless his presence had affected Australia’s chances. He added that having a good batting session helped him to recover slightly.

“But in my mind, they would have had to strap me to the bed. I was always going to go out there and play. But I wouldn’t have played if there was a chance it was going to hurt the team. I went and hit some balls before the game and bluffed my way through that. Then they made me hit a few more, but I got through it and it felt pretty fine,” he added.

The demand for all-rounders has increased exponentially in T20 cricket. All the teams want to have players who can contribute in more than one facet of the game.

There is no denying that all-rounders play a pivotal role in T20 cricket. They add depth to the batting line-up and also provide an extra bowling option. The recently concluded T20 World Cup also saw all-rounders playing a crucial role for their respective teams.

Australia won the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 for the very first time in the history of the competition. They defeated New Zealand in the final by 8 wickets to win the title. Australia’s success in the tournament is also attributed to the fact that they had a lot of all-rounders in their team.

In this article, we take a look at the best five all-rounders of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

5 Best All-Rounders Of T20 World Cup 2021

The T20 World Cup 2021 is done and dusted and the cricket fans saw a new champion. The Australian Cricket Team won their first-ever ICC T20 World Cup title in the history of the tournament. Aaron Finch and Co. registered a clinical 8-wicket win over New Zealand in the summit clash to win the title. Australian opener, David Warner was in spectacular form throughout the tournament, while his partner Aaron Finch also played notable knocks.

There is no denying the fact that the openers play a pivotal role in a team’s success, especially in an ICC format. Openers set the foundation at the top by giving a solid start in the first six overs. Things become a lot easier for the batsmen in the middle-order if openers lay a solid foundation in the power play overs. This is what we have seen in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2021 as well.

Teams tend to win the game if their openers get them to a good start. In this article, we take a look at the best opening Pairs of the T20 World Cup 2021

Ranking The 5 Best Opening Pairs of T20 World Cup 2021

  1. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul

Indian openers, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul got out cheaply in the first game against Pakistan. The next game saw Ishan Kishan pairing up with KL Rahul as openers. Both failed to make an impact and got out on low scores. India lost both the games.

However, the following games resulted in wins, thanks to stellar opening partnerships between Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul. The duo shared a 140-run stand against Afghanistan, followed by a 70-run stand against Scotland and an 86-run stand against Namibia.

Had they given those kinds of starts in the first two games, India could have qualified for the semi-finals. Rohit and KL’s opening stand sits fifth in our list of best opening pairs of T20 World Cup 2021.

Trent Boult, New Zealand Fast Bowler,

After witnessing 29 days of non-stop cricketing action, the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 came to an end on Sunday. Australia wrote their name in the history books after beating New Zealand in the final to win their first-ever ICC T20 World Cup title. Due to the slow and sluggish nature of the pitches in UAE, the fans didn’t witness a lot of high-scoring totals.

The spinners rule the roost throughout the tournament. The fast bowlers also had a considerable amount of success. The ones who varied their pace brillaintly and kept the batsmen guessing with different variations proved effective.

Interestingly, out of the top-five wicket-takers, only two were pacers. Here’s a look at our top five fast bowlers in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021

  1. Josh Hazlewood

Josh Hazlewood (Credits: Twitter)

Josh Hazlewood has been representing Australia in T20 cricket regularly for the last couple of years. It won’t be wrong to say that all those matches helped him in bowling exceedingly well in ICC T20 World Cup 2021. He came into the tournament on the back of exceptional performances for CSK in IPL.

Hazlewood carried his form into the T20 World Cup and dished out exceptional performances for Australia. Hazlewood continues to prove that bowling the Test-match line and lengths is as effective in Test Cricket as in the shortest format. He was, arguably, the best bowler in the powerplay.

Hazlewood’s best performance came in the final of the tournament against New Zealand. He picked the valuable wickets of Daryl Mitchell, Williamson and Glenn Phillips and gave only 16 runs in 4 overs. Hazlewood finished with 11 wickets in 7 matches at an average of 15.91.

Wanindu Hasaranga, T20 World Cup 2021

The ICC T20 World Cup 2021 ended on Sunday with Australia winning an ICC title for the very first time in the history of the tournament. Contrary to everyone’s expectations, Australia exhibited sensational performances to finish at number two in Group 1 after the end of the Super 12 stage. Aaron Finch and Co. met Kane Williamson’s New Zealand in the summit clash and registered a clinical win by 8 wickets.

There is no denying that the slow and sluggish tracks of the UAE offered great help to the spinners. Spinners ruled the roost in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Three out of the top five highest wicket-takers in the tournament are, in fact, spinners. Perhaps, it wasn’t something that nobody had expected. Spinners always have an impact on the slow and sluggish tracks of the UAE.

On that note, here’s a look at five spinners who performed admirably in ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

5 Best Spinners Of ICC T20 World Cup 2021

  1. Wanindu Hasaranga

There is no denying the fact that Wanindu Hasaranga is one of the rising stars in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. He impressed one and all with his fearless attitude and wicket-taking ability. The Sri Lanka spinner finished the tournament as the highest wicket-taker, having managed to pick 16 wickets in 8 matches at an average of 9.75.

He was the biggest bet in Sri Lanka’s bowling line-up. Every time when a partnership was developing, Hasaranga ensured he breaks that. Most of his wickets were amongst top seven in the batting line-up, which tells you the value of those breakthroughs. Not to forget that Sri Lanka were placed in the Group of death, which comprised teams like South Africa, Australia, West Indies, England, which makes you want to praise Hasaranga’s performance even more.

Aakash Chopra has made some interesting views always about the game, and there have been a lot of followers of him waiting for him to name his team of the tournament.

Australia emerged as the winners of the T20 World Cup 2021 after some impressive performances throughout the tournament, and no expert had picked them to make it to the semi-finals from a tough group. However, they showed a lot of composure and managed to win against Pakistan, who was deemed as the title contenders.

Babar Azam To Lead Aakash Chopra’s Side

Aakash Chopra picked the Pakistan skipper Babar Azam to lead his side as the latter finished as the highest run-scorer in the tournament. Chopra went on name Jos Buttler and ICC’s man of the tournament David Warner as the openers of the side.

The middle-order comprised of Namibia’s David Wiese and Moeen Ali to do the finishing duties with Charith Asalanka and Aiden Markram playing at numbers 4 and 5. They can be very destructive at the back end of the innings and deserve a place in the lineup.

Aakash Chopra Picks A Strong Bowling Group

Aakash Chopra went on to pick the highest wicket-taker in the Super 12 stages, Adam Zampa in the lineup, and picked three outstanding fast bowlers. Josh Hazlewood was one of the surprising names that did so well in the 20 over the tournament, and Anrich Nortje was always going to be a threat with his pace. Trent Boult was the only New Zealander in Akash Chopra’s team.

“By the way, here’s my Team of the #T20WorldCup 1. Buttler 2. Warner 3. Babar (c) 4. Asalanka 5. Markram 6. Mooen 7. Wiese 8. Zampa 9. Nortje 10. Hazlewood 11. Boult Honourable mentions—Rizwan, Bumrah, Afridi, Hasranga, Neesham.” Aakash Chopra tweeted

Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh picked his team off the tournament, and interestingly, he named three Pakistan cricketers and excluded the top run-scorer Babar Azam from his team. Harbhajan Singh is one of the fewest active cricketers still going around from the 19th century, and it won’t be a surprise if he makes his retirement soon.

Harbhajan has had a lot of rivalries with the Pakistan side in the past, including the famous incident in the Asia cup where he took on Shoaib Akthar. However, Harbhajan has been making some interesting choices while naming his team of the T20 World cup 2021. He has included three Pakistan cricketers in the lineup, but there was no place for the Pakistani skipper.

Mohammad Rizwan Finds A Place In Harbhajan’s Team

Harbhajan Singh opted for Mohammad Rizwan instead of Babar Azam, who finished as the top run-scorer in the tournament. Rizwan had to go through a lot of chest pain before the semi-final clash against Australia and managed to top score for the Pakistan side in the first innings with a brisk 67. He was rewarded for his consistency by Harbhajan, and he will be partnering with David Warner at the top.

Harbhajan picked another two Pakistan players in the lineup, including the hard-hitting Asif Ali in the middle order for his heroic efforts and finished off with Shaheen Shah Afridi in the bowling lineup. Top wicket-taker in the Super 12 stages, Adam Zampa also did not find a place in the lineup.

Harbhajan Singh Names Two Indian Cricketers In The Team

Harbhajan Singh included two Indian cricketers in his lineup despite the side not performing up to the expectations. Ravindra Jadeja picked up two man-of-the-match hauls in the last 2 games for India, while Jasprit Bumrah was one of the positives for India.

Harbhajan’s Team of the Tournament: David Warner (Australia), Mohammad Rizwan (Pakistan), Kane Williamson (New Zealand), Jos Buttler (England), Aiden Makram (South Africa), Wahindu Hasaranga (Sri Lanka), Asif Ali (Pakistan), Ravindra Jadeja (India), Shaheen Shah Afridi (Pakistan), Trent Boult (New Zealand), Jasprit Bumrah (India)

Pakistan Loses In Semi-Finals

Pakistan ended their unbeaten streak in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2021 against Australia and they had everything going their way until the semi-final. Pakistan was one of the contenders to win the tournament until the semi-final and one of the reasons behind the loss was the drop catch. Australia pounced on the chances and got back in the game to make it to the finals of the tournament.

Former Australia spinner Brad Hogg has surprisingly picked one Indian in his team of the tournament and explained the reasons behind picking the player in the side. Australia managed to win their maiden T20 World cup 2021 title against New Zealand in the finals and it is important to note that the men in yellow have come into the tournament on the back of two series losses.

India’s performance in the T20 World cup 2021 wasn’t up to the mark as they lost the first two-game convincingly and the doors had closed for India reaching the semi-finals despite their late efforts. Brad Hogg named his team of the tournament on his Youtube Channel with 5 Australians in the side and named Babar Azam as the captain.

Brad Hogg Feels Jasprit Bumrah Could Fit Into His Team

Brad Hogg reckoned that Jasrpit Bumrah with his ability to bowl at any phase of the game and still to be among the wickets has definitely urged the Australian to include him. Bumrah finished with 7 wickets in the five games he played at an economy rate of 5.08 and he was one of the few positives for India in the tournament.

“Finally found an Indian that could fit in my team. Jasprit Bumrah, obviously a very good new-ball bowler, can bowl in the middle overs with spin at the other end, it is sometimes a nice combination to have in those middle overs. He is also one of the best death bowlers going around in World Cricket at the moment,” Brad Hogg told on his Youtube Channel.

Babar Azam To Lead Brag Hogg’s Team Of The Tournament

Brad Hogg picked Pakistan skipper Babar Azam to lead his team of the tournament alongside opening the innings. Azam finished as the highest run-scorer in the tournament and he deserved the leadership for taking Pakistan to the semi-finals despite his inexperience.

“Babar Azam will captain the team and open the batting as well. He has done a fantastic job by being able to control the innings. He also led his troops perfectly,” He added.

Former Indian cricketer Deep Dasgupta said that India and Bangladesh teams were the biggest disappointment in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

Virat Kohli-led Indian team could not make it to the semi-final round of the tournament after they finished third on the points table of Group 2.

India lost to Pakistan and New Zealand in their first two games before they won their remaining fixtures against Afghanistan, Scotland and Namibia.

Bangladesh were average at best in the Super 12 stage: Deep Dasgupta

On the other hand, Bangladesh came into the tournament on back to back T20I series win against Australia and New Zealand at home.

The Tigers also managed to qualify for the Super 12 stage despite going down to Scotland in the first match of the qualifiers round.

Unfortunately, Bangladesh lost all of their group fixtures in Group 1 without giving enough fight.

“India was obviously disappointing, especially in the first two matches then there was a turnaround. Another team that disappointed me throughout the tournament was Bangladesh,” Deep Dasgupta said on his YouTube channel.

“When the competition started, they were ranked No.6 in the world. Conditions were also helpful for them, it was an experienced team, but the way they dragged themselves to the Super 12s and then were average at best,” he added.

Deep Dasgupta mentions his favourite moment of ICC T20 World Cup 2021

Pakistan defeated India by 10 wickets in their opening game of the T20 World Cup in what was their first win against their neighbours in any World Cup game.

Dasgupta recalled the moment when Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan hugged each other. The former Indian player said that it was his favourite moment of the tournament.

“For me, the moment of the tournament was the aftermath of India vs Pakistan match when Virat Kohli congratulated Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan because it is a high-pressure match, the first match, and Ind lost to a very deserving Pakistan Side.

“That moment just tells you that, it is just a sport and it is beyond everything else. It was a very warm gesture from Virat. Very friendly and informal. Especially, that picture with Mohammad Rizwan (hugging Kohli) is still in my mind. For me, that is what sport is about and cricket is about,” Dasgupta mentioned.

India will play New Zealand in the three-match T20I series while Bangladesh will host Pakistan for three T20Is.

Former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum expected Martin Guptill to accelerate in his innings against Australia in the T20 World Cup final.

On Sunday, New Zealand lost to Australia by eight wickets in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Guptill started the New Zealand innings with a brisk shot off Mitchell Starc’s second bowl of the match that went through the point for a four.

The New Zealand opener looked in great touch but slowed down as the innings went ahead. Guptill scored 28 from 35 balls before he was caught by Marcus Stoinis at deep mid-wicket while attempting to attack Adam Zampa in the 12th over.

Martin Guptill’s innings was a glaringly obvious part of our batting: Brendon McCullum

Skipper Kane Williamson’s quintessential 85 runs helped the Black Caps to post 172/4 in the first innings.

McCullum said he expected a bit more effort from his former opening partner in the final game against their trans-Tasman rivals.

“I just expected a bit more from Martin Guptill, he got 28 off 35 balls in the final and that in isolation doesn’t look great. But then when you strip it down, he was 16 off 15 to get under way in the final, and then his next 20 balls he scored 12 runs, that’s the time where you need to be accelerating, and all it did [was] take the air out of us. That was the most glaringly obvious part of our batting,” McCullum told SENZ Breakfast.

New Zealand were a little bit timid: Brendon McCullum on the final match

Australian pair of David Warner (53) and Mitchell Marsh (77*) didn’t allow the New Zealand bowlers any chance to fight back in the game after their 92-run stand.

However, New Zealand bowling spearhead Trent Boult got the wickets of openers Aaron Finch and Warner, but that looked very less in what was much needed to defend their total.

McCullum said that New Zealand were timid in the final game as they failed to hit the right areas in the bowling.

“I don’t want to say we took a knife to a gunfight … we took a gun, but we didn’t fire any bullets. They were a little bit timid. Just a missed opportunity, we didn’t fire the bullets we took,” the former New Zealand skipper said.

New Zealand will be playing against India in the upcoming T20I series starting on Wednesday in Jaipur.

Meanwhile, Boult has said that World Cup is a big stage but playing against India in India is also a big challenge.

The World Cup is a very big stage but probably second to that is playing India in India. I think boys are definitely looking forward to it and just adapting to it and reading the wicket is going to be a big play over here as well,” Boult was quoted as saying in a video released by ‘New Zealand Cricket’.

The left-arm pacer who was part of The Blackcaps team that lost the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 summit clash against Australia at Dubai International Cricket Stadium has said that it hurts to swallow the result of the game. Trent Boult asserted:

It still hurts a little bit to swallow that result but life goes on in a way, but got back to the hotel, our bags were out and we were on a chartered flight to Jaipur and now in the hotel,”

“We had some good chances as we came into the tournament. Great win against England (in the semi-final) and a chance for that last dance and that great final. Obviously, it’s hurting, maybe next time, pretty much,” Boult added.

Trent Boult further added that it’s a shame that New Zealand were on the wrong side of the result. However, he added that youngsters in the team were able to learn a lot of new things in the high-pressure World Cup games. He asserted:

Overall, a pleasing job, a bit of shame to be on the wrong side of the result. It was great learning really for youngsters, the pressure and hype that comes with a World Cup. But life goes on quickly,”

The ICC T20 World Cup 2021 has come to an end. Contrary to a lot of cricket pundits’ prediction, Australia won the ICC title for the very first time in the history of T20 cricket. Aaron Finch and Co. played against New Zealand in the summit clash and registered a clinical eight-wicket win.

The ICC event was played for close to a month. Fans across the globe witnessed some sensational performances with both bat and ball. Some prominent names came up with special performances and also wrote their names in the history books.

However, the tournament also proved to be a nightmare for some players. Because of poor performances, a few of them might not be able to play for their international team ever again in the shortest format. In this article, we look at five such players whose T20 career might be over after poor performance in T20 World Cup 2021.

5 Players Whose T20 Career Might Be Over After Poor Performance In T20 World Cup 2021

  1. Steve Smith

Australia silenced all the critics who doubted their ability to win the title. Aaron Finch and Co. exhibited sensational performances and lifted the trophy for the first time in the history of the tournament.

However, keeping in mind the preparations for the next year’s edition, Australia might want to make a change in the playing XI. Steve Smith, who endured a poor outing in the tournament, might make way for someone else in the team.

The T20 cricket demands big hitting and Steve Smith might have to work really hard on his game to adapt to the nature of the format. One doesn’t seem to really put in a lot of confidence on Steve Smith when it comes to T20 cricket. In 7 matches, Steve Smith managed only 74 runs at a dismal strike rate of 97.18. It shouldn’t come as a surprise if Steve Smith would no longer be part of Australia’s scheme of things from here on in T20 internationals.

Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar has opined that Australian opener David Warner will be in huge demand in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 auction if he gets released from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) which is highly likely after his frosty relationship with the franchise.

Warner had a forgettable run in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 as he was removed from the captaincy and dropped from the team in the middle of the season. However, in the UAE leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 he was given the opportunity in the first couple of games but he was dropped once again after his poor performance and Jason Roy replaced him at the top order. Talking about the performance of SRH, they finished at the bottom of the table with only 3 wins in 14 games.

Meanwhile, Warner was in red hot form in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 as he managed to score 289 runs in 7 matches and won the Man of the Tournament Award.

Speaking to India Today Gavaskar told that Warner brings leadership quality with him and the two new IPL Teams would be looking forward to adding him to the squad. He said:

Definitely (will be one of the sought-after players). Don’t forget that there are two new teams as well. Don’t forget the experience he brings, he brings in leadership qualities as well. This is a format made for him. He is so energetic on the field. He would definitely be right at the top of people wanted by the two new teams or any other team because it doesn’t look that SunRisers are going to retain him,”

Gavaskar further talking about SRH’s decision to leave out Warner in the team hotel said that it was a ‘bit hard’ call by the team. He asserted:

That was a bit hard, to be honest, making him sit in the hotel while some of the ordinary players who were not even going to be in the playing XI were at the ground… There must have been much more than a lack of form that might have forced them to ask him to stay back.

As far as Australia is concerned, I think they are probably saying that was kind of the thing that was needed to spur him on to the performances that we have seen in this World Cup,” Gavaskar added.

Sunil Gavaskar further said that Warner has got a lot of self-belief in him which is the main reason behind him succeeding in World Cup after a poor run in IPL 2021. He said:

He is a positive-thinking performance. He doesn’t look back at what’s happened. He must have told himself that ‘what has happened in the past has happened. The future is only in my hands’. Also, don’t forget at the start of the T20 World Cup also, he didn’t do well in the warm-up matches and there were questions asked about his place on the side. Again, the self-belief that has got him to this situation.”

Australia’s duo of David Warner (53) and Mitchell Marsh (77*) paved the way for the team’s chase of 173 with their impetus partnership of 92 runs before the former departed in the 13th over.

Glenn Maxwell hit 28 runs off 18 balls to finish the game along with Marsh in the remaining part of the game.

Although Australia won the title but Hogg is of the opinion that there are many things the team needs to fix to defend their title at home next year.

Hogg talked about the places of captain Aaron Finch and stylish batsman Steven Smith in the Australian T20I team.

“Lot of things for Australia to resolve by the time the next T20 World Cup comes around. Need more aggressive batsmen. Hopefully Finch finds his form, his place in the team is under the radar,” Hogg said on his YouTube channel.

“Apart from aggression at the top by one of the openers, No.4 is also an area of concern. Have to assess whether Steve Smith is a good for T20 or not. That’s where Josh Inglis might come in,” he added.

Hogg cited the examples of India and England cricket teams to be superior in all formats building their bench strengths. The former left-arm wrist spinner feels the same needs to be done in his country as well.

“The last 5-8 years, it has not exactly gone to plan, we have rested on the laurels a bit. A few nations have caught up with us, Australia still have a lot to work to do. India have set the bar when it comes to playing in ODI, Tests and even T20s. They were unlucky in this particular tournament,” Hogg said.

With the T20 World Cup, Australia have now eight ICC titles in their cabinet with five 50-over World Cups and two Champions trophies.

Adam Zampa Hits Out At Critics Who Wrote Australia Off After Winning T20 World Cup

Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa gave a befitting reply to his and Australian critics who wrote the team off prior to the start of the 2021 T20 World Cup.

On Sunday night, the Aussies won their maiden T20 World Cup title after defeating the much-fancied New Zealand side by eight wickets in a tense final. Player of the Match, Mitchell Marsh, Player of the Tournament, David Warner, forged twin fifties to help Australia chase down the target of 173 with more than an over to spare.

Following the win, Zampa took to social media where he mocked the detractors who hailed teams like India and West Indies to be the favorites heading into the tournament.

Here’s Adam Zampa’s post:

I’ll say it now, I don’t give Australia much chance. In T20 cricket they have struggled. I don’t see Australia doing too much. England, India, West Indies, New Zealand, Maybe Pakistan?

Following the conclusion of the final, skipper Aaron Finch admitted that toss played a big factor in the outcome but so did the aggressiveness shown on the field by his team. Finch won six out of seven tosses in the tournament, and the only toss that didn’t go his way was the match against England where they were comprehensively beaten after batting first.

It did play a big factor, to be honest. I don’t know how I did it, maybe it was just fate. I tried to play it down as much as I could because I thought at some point I’m going to lose a toss and we’ll have to bat first. But it did play a big part.”

The dew factor, the slower balls weren’t holding in the wicket as much. In T20 cricket, you need a bit of luck, don’t get me wrong. We won six out of seven tosses, which goes a long way. But we’ve played some really good cricket, putting teams on the back foot because we were aggressive,” Finch mentioned.

Warner and Marsh’s 92-run stand for the second wicket ensured a comfortable victory for the Aussies, who will now have a chance to defend their title at home in the 2022 T20 World Cup.
