The ninth match of the CPL 2021 sees Trinbago Knight Riders take on Saint Lucia Kings on Tuesday at Warner Park. Both teams fought against each other in the 7th match on Sunday as well. This will be the second time when both the teams will be squaring up against each other in this season.
The last game saw St. Lucia Kings registering their first win of the tournament after securing a 5-run victory over Trinbago Knight Riders. Saint Lucia Kings and posted 157 runs in the first innings. R Cornwall and A Fletcher gave an outstanding start, having reached the fifty-run mark inside the first six overs.
However, Ravi Rampaul and A Hosein then put the brakes in the middle period. Rampaul sent back Cornwall and du Plessis, while Hosein got the wicket of Andre Fletcher as the Kings lost three wickets in the next five overs.
Roston Chase and T David then counter-attack and stitched together a brilliant partnership to take the team in a good position. On a two-paced wicket, where the ball wasn’t coming nicely to the bat, Chase and David made sure they sent all the bad deliveries for boundaries.
Chase scored 30 off 24 balls, while Tim David amassed 43 off 32 deliveries. For Knight Riders, apart from Isuru Udana, all the bowlers bowled pretty well. Ravi Rampaul emerged as the star performer, picking 3 for 29 in 4 overs.
Trinbago Knight Riders didn’t start off too well in the second innings. Lendl Simmons and Tion Webster struggled to score at a quick rate. Tion Webster got out in the sixth over and Knight Riders were going at a scoring rate of 6 an over.
The arrival of Colin Munro too didn’t help as he too struggled to score at the right pace. Simmons, eventually, got out after scoring 25 off 30 balls, while Pollard (9 off 11) too didn’t stay too long at the crease.
Contrary to everyone’s expectations, Tim Seifert wreaked havoc with the bat in the final few overs and almost sealed a victory for the team from no position of winning. He smacked 2 sixes and 2 fours in the penultimate over to bring the equation down to 14 needed off 6 balls.
However, a brilliant over from Wahab Riaz denied Knight Riders off a win as they fell short of 5 runs in the end. Munro stayed unbeaten at 40 off 46 balls, while Seifert smashed 40 off 16 balls.
