Sunil Gavaskar, a former captain of India, did not place much significance on those losses, which occurred barely two months before the T20 World Cup.

However, he did recommend one change to India’s Asia Cup squad for the tournament in Australia later in October.

India was expected to maintain their supremacy in the Asia Cup this year despite being the overwhelming favourite and defending champion.

The Men in Blue got off to an amazing start, winning both of their group matches, but then they were shocked by Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super 4 stage, which ultimately caused them to lose the match and be eliminated from the game.

Deepak Chahar would be beneficial for the Indian team: Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar was asked by India Today what one change he would make to the Indian side for the World Cup, and he immediately mentioned Deepak Chahar, citing the Australian playing conditions and his ability to swing the ball as reasons why he would be “useful” for the team.

“I would say Deepak Chahar.” He is the one I would look at since it will be Australia and there’ll be an extra bounce. And with the type of movement he produces with the new ball.”

“He is someone who has to be considered if…you know, we have usually picked about 4-5 bowlers for the Australia or South Africa tours and one of them ends up being wasted. But in a fast-paced tournament like the T20, I believe Deepak Chahar would benefit the Indian team,” Sunil Gavaskar remarked.

According to reports, the Indian team for the 2022 T20 World Cup will be revealed the following week.
