Sri Lanka and Pakistan go head to head in the Asia Cup 2022 final in Dubai on Sunday, September 11. With India eliminated from the tournament, this edition will see a new champion who will be known as Asia’s best. The title win will be a huge morale booster for either of these two teams heading into the T20 World Cup 2022.

Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan in the final Super 6 game of the Asia Cup on Friday. The match was more of a dress rehearsal ahead of the big final on Sunday. Both the teams defeated India and Afghanistan on their way to making the finals. In the process, they have also aced a few chases which have been high-scoring close encounters. Sri Lanka incidentally has won all their games in this competition chasing.

“The environment in the team set the tone. It is what gave us confidence. The batting unit won it for us. The bowlers bowled well in patches, Dilshan and Theekshana in particular. The Indian batsmen came hard, but we did well to keep them to 173. We had a good discussion after the first game. We know what we can do in this tournament” said the Lankan skipper after the game against India.

Naseem Shah was Pakistan’s hero in their one-wicket win over Afghanistan as he blasted two back-to-back sixes to win the game for his side with just one wicket to spare. Skipper Babar Azam had a special mention for the youngster in his post-match presentation comments.

“Excellent with the way Naseem Shah finished it off. Sharjah is always low-scoring, and Mujeeb and Rashid Khan are two of the best bowlers. We just wanted to take the match deep. The way we started with the ball was excellent. In our batting, we didn’t execute our plans very well, but Naseem was outstanding” said Babar on Naseem.
