Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi lauded India for their magnificent performance in the ICC World Cup 2023. He highlighted the brand of cricket that Men in Blue played throughout the tournament.

India was at the receiving end of a disappointing loss in the final of the ICC World Cup 2023. The Men in Blue suffered a thrashing 7-wicket and lost their 10th consecutive ICC tournament loss on Trott, which has raised quite a few eyebrows.

India was asked to bat first but they couldn’t manage a big total on the board. They were bundled out for just 240 runs with KL Rahul (66) being the top scorer. Virat Kohli (51) and Rohit Sharma also chipped in but no one could get a big ton.

With the ball, India had Australia under pressure at 47/3. But after that, Travis Head (132) took the game away from them. He blasted a brutal century and was supported well by Marnus Labuschagne (58*) as Australia completed a comfortable 3-wicket win to lift their 6th title.

After Australia won the ICC World Cup 2023, Shaheen Afridi congratulated the 6-time champions. He admitted that they were better than India on the day. Taking to his Instagram account, he stated:

“Many congrats to @cricketaustralia on winning the World Cup title. Surely the better team on the day. Hard luck India but the team played fantastically well throughout the tournament.”

PCB Appoints Shan Masood as Test captain and Shaheen Afridi as T20I captain

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently announced the new captains for the Test and the T20I format after Babar Azam stepped down. Shan Masood was named as the leader in the longest format of the game whereas Shaheen Afridi will captain the T20I team.

The pacer has been fantastic as a leader in the shortest format of the game. He has guided his team to two PSL titles and hopes to take Pakistan to great heights. He played a huge role for his team in the World Cup 2023 and was amongst the leading wicket-takers in the tournament.

Although Pakistan didn’t manage to reach the semi-final, Shaheen Afridi was the biggest positive for them. He picked 18 wickets in 9 games he played. He will be next seen in action during the Test series against Australia.
