Mitchell Marsh’s iconic pose with the World Cup trophy has caught a lot of eyeballs in the Indian cricket fraternity. Australia, on Sunday (November 19), thrashed Team India by six wickets in the final of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 to win a record-extending sixth title. The Pat Cummins-led side completely outplayed India in front of a jam-packed Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Bowling first, Cummins & Co. bowled out the hosts for a modest total of 240 runs in 50 overs. KL Rahul top-scored for his team, scoring 66 runs off 107 balls while Virat Kohli scored 54 runs off 63 balls. Captain Rohit Sharma also played a crucial 47-run knock to give India a good start before runs dried up once he was dismissed. For Australia, Mitchell Starc was the most successful bowler, taking 3 wickets while Cummins and Josh Hazlewood picked 2 wickets apiece.

In reply, Australia made a poor start with the bat. Mohammed Shami dismissed David Warner in the second over before Jasprit Bumrah sent back Mitchell Marsh and Steve Smith to leave the team from Down Under reeling at 47 for 3.

But from thereon, it was a one-way traffic as Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne stitched together a huge match-winning partnership. The duo added 192 runs for the fourth wicket before Mohammed Siraj dismissed Head when Australia were just 2 runs short of a win. Head departed after scoring 137 runs off 120 balls while Labuschagne remained unbeaten on 58 off 110 balls.

Mitchell Marsh’s pose with World Cup trophy raises eyebrows:

A photo of Mitchell Marsh with the World Cup trophy has gone viral. Part of the Australian team that won the World Cup in 2015 too, Mitchell Marsh celebrated his second World Cup title in style. One of the pictures of him celebrating the World Cup went viral and raised a number of eyebrows in the Indian cricket fraternity. In the picture, he could be seen resting his legs on the World Cup trophy while enjoying a beer.

The gesture of resting the legs on the coveted trophy, however, has not gone down well with many. As soon as the pictures surfaced, there was widespread criticism of the player as many called it inappropriate.

Talking about the allrounder’s performance in the final, he did not really manage to make a big impact. With the ball, he bowled two tidy overs and conceded just 5 runs while with the bat, he scored a run-a-ball 15. Overall in the 2023 World Cup, Mitchell Marsh scored 441 runs in 10 innings with a top score of 177.
