Team India will be in action in less than a week after the heartbreaking loss against Australia in the final of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. The Rohit Sharma-led side suffered a six-wicket loss against Australia in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday (November 19).

India entered the final as the firm favorites after winning all of their 9 league games followed by a convincing win against New Zealand in the semifinal. India had also registered an impressive 6-wicket win over Australia in the league stage. However, the 10-match winning streak made little difference in the final as Australia thoroughly outplayed India in the final.

Bowling first, the team from Down Under bowled out the hosts for a modest total of 240 runs despite half-centuries from KL Rahul and Virat Kohli. In reply, Australia recovered from 47 for 3 to chase down the total in 43 overs with six wickets in hand. Travis Head starred with the bat, scoring 137 runs, and shared a 192-run stand with Marnus Labuschagne who remained unbeaten on 58.

Team India to have a new coach for Australia T20Is:

Just three days after the final, India and Australia will resume their rivalry in T20Is when they lock horns against each other in the first of the five-match T20I series. Most of the players who played in the World Cup won’t be a part of India’s squad. Hardik Pandya is also not available either due to an injury.

As a result, India will have a new captain as well as a new-look side for the upcoming series. According to a report in The Indian Express, the home team will also have a new coach in place for the series. The report stated that former India batsman VVS Laxman is likely to be the stand-in coach for the series.

Currently the director of the National Cricket Academy, VVS Laxman has ample experience in coaching. He served as a coach for IPL outfit Sunrisers Hyderabad for 9 years before joining the NCA as its chief. He has also stepped in as a stand-in coach of Team India on a number of occasions.

India vs Australia T20I series:

November 26: Second T20, Thiruvananthapuram

November 28: Third T20, Guwahati

December 1: Fourth T20, Nagpur
