Australia skipper Pat Cummins has said it was satisfying to silence the huge crowd at the Narendra Modi Stadium by dismissing Virat Kohli in the recently-concluded World Cup 2023 final.

Before the final, the Australia pacer had said that he and his teammates would love to silence the one-sided crowd in Ahmedabad and they did that in style. Pat Cummins did not have to wait for long to experience the eerie silence after he bowled India’s batting superstar Virat Kohli. The former India skipper had just completed his fifty and was batting on 54 when he ended up inside edging a delivery onto the stumps.

And Virat Kohli’s dismissal was followed by silence all around, an experience that Pat Cummins and his teammates ensured to enjoy and acknowledge. Speaking at the post-match press conference, the Australia captain said:

“We did take a second in the huddle just to acknowledge the silence that was going around the crowd. It felt like it was one of those days all made for him to score another hundred like he normally does. That was satisfying,” Cummins was quoted as saying in the post-match press conference.

Pat Cummins leads Australia to glory:

Talking about the game, Pat Cummins went on to lead his team to a famous six-wicket victory. Opting to bowl first, Australia bowled out India for a modest total of 240 runs despite half-centuries from Virat Kohli and KL Rahul. Barring the brief period when Rohit Sharma was going great guns during his 47-run knock, Australia’s bowlers faced little difficulty in containing the Indian batters.

Left-arm pacer Mitchell Marsh picked up 3 wickets while Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood claimed two wickets apiece. In reply, Australia crossed the finishing line in 43 overs. While they made a poor start with the bat and were reeling at 47 for 3, a huge partnership between Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne helped them recover and seal the game.

The duo added 192 runs for the fourth wicket before Mohammed Siraj dismissed Head for 137. Labuschagne, on the other hand, remained unbeaten on 58.
