West Indies opener Lendl Simmons had a forgettable outing on Tuesday versus South Africa in Dubai as he batted at snail’s pace for his 16 runs from 35 balls.
After being put in to bat first, West Indies openers Lendl Simmons and Evin Lewis started off slowly, taking just 6 runs in the first 3 overs, before the left-hander hit out at the Protea bowlers to take his side to 43 by the end of the powerplay.
However, while Lewis smashed his way to 35 off 22, Lendl Simmons jammed at one end, scoring just 5 runs in his first 14 balls. The right-hander’s struggles continued after the powerplay as well – he could neither rotate the strike regularly nor was able to slam a single boundary.
As Lewis got out after reaching his fifty, and then Nicholas Pooran also was dismissed looking for a big hit, Lendl Simmons continued to deal in just dots and singles. He trudged his way to 16 runs – all singles – before Kagiso Rabada ended his dismal stay on his 35th ball.
Of course, with this atrocious knock by the West Indies opener, Twitter mocked, ridiculed, and even demanded that Lendl Simmons be declared by the West Indies captain and management as his knock was only pulling their total back considering the incredible batting depth they have.

Simmons might have played one of poor knocks ever in T20 history – 16 from 35 balls as an opener.
