The incident took place in the 10th over of India’s innings. Virat Kohli engaged in playful banter with Angelo Mathews in a light-hearted incident. Kohli humorously mimicked swinging his bat towards a bowler, Mathews, while completing a run at the non-striker’s end.

Rohit Sharma’s early departure left India in a difficult position during the powerplay. Kohli and Shubman Gill played a pivotal role in rescuing the team. The duo added a partnership of over 100 runs at a run-a-ball pace, helping India recover from a challenging situation.

The Delhi-born cricketer was troubled by the Sri Lankan pace bowlers early in his innings. The right-arm batter survived as pacer Dushmantha Chameera dropped a half chance in his own bowling. Kohli reached his half-century off just 50 deliveries with a double.

India and Sri Lanka are competing at the Wankhede Stadium, the same venue as the 2011 World Cup final. Only Virat Kohli was part of the playing XI in the final match. Angelo Mathews, who missed the 2011 final due to injury, is the sole survivor from the losing side.
