The 24-year-old India National Cricket Team opening batsman Shubman Gill got a standing ovation from Sara Tendulkar at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai for his brilliant knock against Sri Lanka National Cricket Team in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
Gill was one of the most talked about names heading into the ICC Cricket World Cup in India and many former cricketers backed him to finish as the leading run-getter in the marquee tournament.
The opening batsman has been in red-hot form in 2023 but hasn’t looked at his very best in the World Cup. He missed a few matches in the competition with dengue, before returning and registering scores of 16, 53, 26, and 9 in four matches.
However, he brought out his best in the match against Sri Lanka and played a wonderful knock. Gill lost his opening partner Rohit Sharma in the first over itself, but he stayed confident and built a stunning partnership with Virat Kohli.

Gill and Kohli added 189 runs in 179 balls before the dismissal of the former in the 30th over. Dilshan Madushanka bowled a slower short ball and Gill tried to play it past the wicket-keeper but ended up getting an outside edge which went straight into the hands of Kusal Mendis.
Shubman Gill scored 92 runs off 92 balls, with 11 fours and 2 sixes, before getting dismissed and he looked dejected after missing out on a ton. As Gill was walking back to the pavilion, the entire Wankhede Stadium as well as Sara Tendulkar appreciated his knock by giving him a standing ovation.
Also, Gill now holds the record for most 50-plus scores in ODIs in 2023, going past Pathum Nissanka’s record.

Notably, Sara and Shubman are rumored to be dating each other for a while now. The rumor mills started churning in 2020 when Sara openly cheered for Shubman during an IPL match. Also, their social media activities fueled the rumors of their relationship. Recently, they were spotted together during a Jio event at a restaurant in Mumbai.
