  • Shreyas Iyer scored 82 runs.

  • India ended with total of 357 runs.

Shreyas Iyer looked in a dangerous mood in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 clash against Sri Lanka. The match between the two teams is taking place at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, where India were asked to bat first after losing the toss.

Shreyas Iyer was among the top performers for India in the game. The batter came out all guns blazing and played an aggressive approach right from the start. The right-hander took the attack to the bowlers and made sure that he cashed on the start given by Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill.

Shreyas Iyer played some breathtaking strokes and smashed bowlers all over the park. He was approaching his ton but unfortunately fell in the 80s. He was looking all set for a ton. He started the 48th over with two massive sixes and attempted the third as well.

But he couldn’t smash it. Shreyas Iyer tried to go over the cover and managed to slice it. It was a slower ball and he couldn’t time it well. The ball went into the sky and was easily pouched by the fielder at the covers. As he got out, there was utter silence in the stadium.

What caught the attention of many was the reaction of KL Rahul’s wife, Athiya Shetty. She was livid as the batter got out at the crucial juncture of the game. She gave an irritated reaction and the video of the incident went viral on the internet.

IND vs SL: Shreyas Iyer talks about his innings at Wankhede Stadium

Shreyas Iyer opened up about his innings during the mid-innings break. He highlighted his mindset and also lauded Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill for their partnership, saying that the duo laid the platform for them. Speaking to broadcasters, he explained:

“I think it was a pretty good wicket to bat, the ball was coming on and there was some nice bounce. I could settle for a while and then play my shots. It was magnificent to watch (on the partnership between Gill and Kohli), the way they took the singles, twos and the boundaries, they laid the platform for us. We were told that the odd ball was stopping and holding a bit, so it was a good partnership that they had and it helped us later on.”

India would be optimistic about defending the target and winning their 7th game on the trot.
