India became first team to qualify for semi-final.
IND vs SL took place in the ICC World Cup 2023 on Thursday (2nd November). It was the 33rd game of the tournament that took place at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. India thumped Sri Lanka by 302 runs and booked their berth in the semi-final of the tournament.
India were asked to bat first and they didn’t have a great outing with the bat as they lost Rohit Sharma (4) early. But after that, it was all about Shubman Gill (92) and Virat Kohli (88). The duo added 189 runs for the second wicket and made sure that they put the team in a dominating position despite losing the captain early.
Shreyas Iyer (82) played aggressively after that and made sure that India ended with a big total on the board. A vital contribution by Ravindra Jadeja (35) in the end powered India to a total of 357 runs. For Sri Lanka, Dilshan Madushanka was the pick of the bowlers as he bagged five wickets.
The second innings was all about Indian pacers. Jasprit Bumrah began the proceedings as he removed Pathum Nissanka on the first ball of the innings. After that, Mohammed Siraj picked three wickets before Mohammed Shami chipped in as well and bowled impeccable lines and lengths. Shami picked five wickets as India bundled out Sri Lanka for 55 runs to win the game by 302 runs.
