India and Sri Lanka locked horns at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
India hammered Sri Lanka in the match.
The Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team absolutely demolished the Kusal Mendis-led Sri Lanka National Cricket Team in the 33rd match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, November 2.
Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. They made one change to their playing XI as Dushan Hemantha replaced Dhananjaya de Silva. India, on the other hand, decided to go with an unchanged playing XI.
Batting first, India were off to a disastrous start as Rohit Sharma was cleaned up in the first over by Dilshan Madushanka.
Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli also got early reprieves and after that, they punished the Lankan Team. The duo played amazing cricket and they smashed the bowlers all over.
Shubman Gill (92) and Virat Kohli (88) played spectacular innings and the duo added 189 runs together in 179 balls. However, Gill and Kohli were unfortunate as they weren’t able to reach the three-figure mark.
After the dismissal of the top-order batters, Shreyas Iyer, who was going through a lean patch in the marquee tournament, set the stage on fire with his excellent knock. He played some of the breathtaking strokes and smashed 82 runs off 56 balls, with 3 fours and 6 sixes.
Ravindra Jadeja, Suryakumar Yadav, and KL Rahul also chipped in with crucial runs, and in the end, India posted a great total of 357/8 on the board.
Defending the target, Indian bowlers absolutely annihilated the Sri Lankan batting unit and gave flashbacks of the Asia Cup 2023 final where the Dasun Shanaka-led side were bundled out for 50.
The dangerous pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj was breathing fire and they bamboozled the opposition batters to reduce them to 29/8.
In the end, Sri Lanka were bundled out for 55 as Mohammed Shami bagged a 5-wicket haul and Mohammed Siraj bagged a 3-wicket haul. Also, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja picked a wicket each.
This was India’s seventh victory in the competition and they jumped back to the top spot on the points table. Also, they have become the first team to qualify for the semi-finals.

Indian bowlers annihilated the English batting in Lucknow.
Indian bowlers are decimating the Sri Lankan batting here in Mumbai.
To be fair, it is the Indian BOWLERS who have set-up all victories.
Wish the focus was a little more on the Indian bowlers…— Aakash Chopra (@cricketaakash) November 2, 2023
