  • Mohammed Shami picked 5 wickets against Sri Lanka

  • India won the match by 302 runs.

Mohammed Shami was the architect behind India’s massive 302-run win against Sri Lanka in the ICC World Cup 2023. The pacer oozed his class at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and made sure that his side won the 7th game of the tournament on the trot.

Mohammed Shami continued his dream run in the ICC World Cup 2023 as he produced another magical spell of fast bowling. The fast bowler was all over the Sri Lanka batters as he made their mockery and rattled them out for a low total.

Mohammed Shami picked a five-wicket haul in a flash and helped India bundle out Sri Lanka for just 55 runs. The fast bowler bowled impeccable lines and lengths and seemed unplayable on the track that offered swing for the bowlers. He picked his second fifer in three games.

As he picked a five-wicket haul, he did a hilarious celebration and mocked bowling coach Paras Mhambrey. He gestured something with the ball on the hair. Here’s the video of the celebration:

Later, Shubman Gill revealed about the celebration. He said that Mohammed Shami’s gesture was for the bowling coach Paras Mhambrey because he doesn’t have any hair on his head.

IND vs SL: I always try to bowl in good areas and be in good rhythm – Mohammed Shami

Mohammed Shami talked about his performance and said that he always tries to focus on the good areas and lengths. He also talked about the camaraderie between the pacers. The fast bowler also shared his excitement about becoming India’s leading wicket-taker in World Cups. Speaking during the post-match presentation, he explained:

“Our bowling is in good shape and with the kind of rhythm (talking about the form of the pacers) that we are in, everyone is enjoying and everyone is happy for each other’s success and more importantly, we are bowling as a unit and that’s the result you are getting to see. I always try to bowl in good areas and be in good rhythm. In big tournaments, once the rhythm goes away, it’s very tough to get it back. I always focus on hitting the good areas and length.

“Very happy (on becoming India’s leading wicket-taker in World Cups) It’s very important to be in rhythm in white ball cricket and hit the good areas. If you hit the good areas with the new ball you will get assistance off the pitch and for me length matters a lot. The kind of support we get from the crowd, I want to thank each and every one of them. We also get a lot of support whenever we travel outside India as well. The dressing room is in a very good space.”
