  • India hammered Sri Lanka in Mumbai.

The veteran India National Cricket Team seamer Mohammed Shami has dominated with the ball in the ongoing edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup, which is being held in India.

The senior right-arm pacer has delivered exceptional performances in the three matches he has been given opportunities. He has already bagged 14 wickets in the competition with a 4-wicket haul and two 5-wicket hauls.

He looked dangerous once again in the 33rd match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, November 2.

Shami decimated the Sri Lankan batting unit with his 5-wicket haul and ended up winning the Player of the Match award. However, among the 5 wickets picked by Shami, the one that stood out was the dismissal of veteran all-rounder Angelo Mathews.

On the first ball of the 14th over, Shami bowled an unplayable inswinger on the stumps on a full length and the Sri Lanka batter went for the drive, before seeing his stumps getting shattered. The batter was back in the hut after scoring just 12 runs off 25 balls, with 1 four.

Due to India’s bowling masterclass, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 55 in 19.4 overs, leading to India’s massive 302-run win. The Men In Blue also secured a semi-final spot.

Speaking after the match, Indian captain Rohit Sharma was delighted to know that they have officially qualified for the semi-finals. He said:

“Very happy knowing that we have officially qualified now. Been a good effort from the squad, when we started off in Chennai. This was our goal, to qualify first and then obviously to be in the semis and the finals.”

Rohit Sharma added that they have been quite clinical in their approach in the marquee tournament and lauded his bowlers and batters for showcasing dominant performances. He said:

“The way we approached these 7 games, it was quite clinical. Everyone put in the effort and a lot of individuals have put their hand up. Was a good challenge to put runs on the board, and that’s the kind of template you gotta have when you want to score that many runs. 350 on any pitch is a very good score and a lot of credit to the batting unit for taking us to that score and the bowlers did the job obviously. “

“All in all, it was pleasing to watch (bowlers dominating proceedings) and I hope they continue to do it that way.
