  • India won the game by 302 runs.

  • KL Rahul was brilliant behind the stumps.

KL Rahul was on the top of his game behind the stumps in the ICC World Cup 2023 game against Sri Lanka. The 33rd game of the tournament took place at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, where India displayed a magnificent effort and won the game by 302 runs.

Indian bowlers extracted a lot of swing from the surface and made mockery of the Sri Lankan batting lineup. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Mohammed Shami were on the roll as they bowled magnificently well and bowled impeccable lines and lengths.

While their bowling was exceptional, what caught the attention of many was KL Rahul’s keeping behind the stumps. The keeper-batter took some exceptional takes behind the stumps both the off as well as the leg side. He was also spot-on with his DRS calls.

During the third ball of the 12th over, Mohammed Shami bowled a short of a length delivery down the leg. Dushmantha Chameera tried to flick and gloved it. KL Rahul dived to his left and took it cleanly. He immediately appealed for the caught behind but the umpire looked unfazed.

KL Rahul convinced Rohit Sharma to take the DRS. And then the UltraEdge showed a tiny spike when the ball was close to the glove. Here’s the video:

Rohit Sharma was asked about the DRS calls during the post-match presentation. He said that he has left the DRS calls to KL Rahul as he has been brilliant. He said during the presentation:

“I’ve left the DRS call on bowlers and KL Rahul. I know I can trust them, especially KL. He’s been brilliant”.

India will be next seen in action when they take on South Africa on 5th November in Kolkata. They have won 7 out of the 7 games in the ICC World Cup 2023 and became the first team to qualify for the semi-finals.
