In five matches in the World Cup so far, Gill has scored 196 runs with two fifties at an average of 39.20.
Indian opener Shubman Gill notched up his second fifty-plus score of this World Cup as he scored 92 off 92 balls against Sri Lanka. India in the end won the match by 302 runs to extend their winning streak to seven matches in the tournament so far. They are the only unbeaten team in the tournament yet.
India piled up 357/8 against Sri Lanka with Gill scoring 92, Virat Kohli 88, and Shreyas Iyer 82. This happened after India lost Rohit Sharma in the second ball of the match. Potentially all three batters missed their respective centuries. For Gill and Iyer this would have been their first World Cup tons while for Kohli it would have been his 49th ODI ton equalling Sachin Tendulkar’s ODI centuries.
However, as it turned out all three batters missed their landmarks but India ended up scoring a mammoth total. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill in a conversation with Star Sports talked about Rohit and Kohli and what has learnt about batting from the two senior players.

He first shared his learning from Rohit Sharma. He said” the thing which I learned from Rohit bhai is to not let the ball in his zone go wasted. He does not think about the previous ten balls balls or the next ten balls but ensures that he maximises from the balls which are on his hitting zone” said Gill.
About his learnings from Virat Kohli, Gill spoke about how he how to keep the dot-ball percentage less in crunch games in this World Cup.
“The thing that I learned from Virat Kohli is to keep a low dot-ball percentage. Thus the opposition is not able to build pressure, especially in white-ball cricket and thus there is no sign of any pressure on the batting team. If the strike is rotated and then getting boundaries in between shifts the pressure on the bowling team. I think these are my two learnings from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli” concluded Gill.
The 23-year-old missed the first two games and made a return to the side since the Pakistan game. In five matches in the World Cup so far, Gill has scored 196 runs with two fifties at an average of 39.20. Overall, he has scored 1426 runs from 25 matches this year so far.
